I swapped out the OEM muffler with the Magnaflow. I kept the stock pipes and resonator in place.
I ripped out the Magnaflow with all the pipes and resonator and put in larger pipes from the cats back and no resonator, replacing it with a Flowmaster. Sounded better.
In theory, the Magnaflow should have sounded quieter with the smaller pipes and resonator, but it simply sounded like crap, inside and outside of the cab. I should have done my homework in advance, because I found others who hated the Manaflow/SOHC combo as well.
So, I've done both a straight muffler swap AND a cutback.
I have a 2002 explorer v6 and I wanna know what I should do to make it sound like a v8 or at least make it sound deep and throaty without it sounding obvious(meaning when I drive it ppl r like wtf that sounds weird). Money is not a problem and any options and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
It's really hard if not impossible to duplicate that V-8 sound with a V-6 SOHC...but I am really happy with my Gibson catback setup for the 2002-2005 models. Louder than stock but not raspy or crazy loud. Interior resonance is louder than stock but not annoying or anything.
