What is the weather typical for that time of year?
what are the bumper laws for the area?
Are doors required? fender flares?
I don't want to run into any trouble on the way to the trails
Are most people planning on staying at or near the canyonland campgrounds?

It should be pretty nice. Hopefully late enough to miss the cold snowy weather but not so hot that you are sweating up a storm if you dont have AC (me).

Not sure but as long as you arent a monster truck with 30" of lift I would think they would leave you alone. Most people I have heard get haseled for mudflaps or for driving there tube buggys down the roads.

I would be most worried about mudflaps and fender flares. If you dont get stupid infront of a cop they hopefully will leave you alone. Few years ago after we ran a trail there was cop sitting right next to the highway when we
got back on the highway and we all drove past him and no one had any trouble.

Not sure where I plan to stay. It will depend on how many reward points I have saved up for a free hotel stay. The town is only a few miles long so even if you arent in the same campground/hotel you are only few minutes away from everyone else.

cool,Thanks

I am so in.

we should plan a convoy from WA. I'll be leaving the 10th with a 40 foot motor home and no less than 3 rigs (as many as 5).

Wow, i'd hate to pay that fuel bill

What time were you planning on leaving on the 10th?
What will your travel speed be? I would like to travel at about 60 and because I only have a 40 gal tank I would need to stop every 170-200 miles to refuel.

normally my dad just puts the motor home on cruise control at 75, but we'll be towing more than normal. besides the motorhome, i'm not sure what else will be towing. if my brothers yota comes, and my buddies yota, we'll most likely rent a big rig from pensky and tow with that, because the motorhome will be towing a 77cj7 and two 4x4 quads. lots of variables at this time.
most likely we'll leave fairly early on the 10th, 6-7am. we'll put in approx 600 miles that day.

we'll figure it out.

Sounds like a plan to me. Just give me the dates and times and I will be in the caravan. I'll even lead since I know the way. I prefer a travel speed of about 65 to 68 as well for gas milage purposes. 75 is a bit much with a single rear axle truck with a camper and a trailer.

I just realized that because you are north of I-90 that are paths won't connect till Hermiston ,OR. I plan on running I-5 south to Portland and then getting on I-84

I highly recommend Canyonlands! I stayed there last year, and just want to say that place is great. We paid the few bucks more and got a cabin. (AC= )

I'll be staying at Canyonlands as well. I will be in one of the full RV hookup stalls. I think we should get ahold of them and figure out how we can all be camped close to each other. I know what your tthinking Bill, but don't worry, my new camper is pretty sound proof so the only people I'll be disturbing with my snoring is myself and 90ranajo(Show).

will there be any superstockers? im thinking about making the trek, but i dont wanna be the little guy on the business end of a tow strap all weekend...what is out there for rigs like mine?

There are typically a few Super Stockers that attend. Last year was the first year that I know of that there weren't any others except for me.

would it be worth the 3000+ miles and 1000+$ for me to come out there? are there only a few trails that i could run? would i be sufficiently entertained by the trails that are of my caliber? should i just wait until im on 33s and locked to make the trek?

I'm pretty much planning on being a Super Stocker... if you read some of the past trip reports and look at some of the (tons 'o stuff) sites on the web... we should be fine as far as an entertaining and interesting drive on some of the trails (not to mention I have a much touted longer wheelbase than ya). Try to make it... it's supposed to be beyond any other experience for wheelin!

Not that my pride is too hurt being the only "2-3" on the list... but I'm thinking more of 3+ now... :D ;)

Yes it is worth it!

Dozens of us with built rigs - myself included - started going to Moab as stockers and/or SuperStockers, and Moab is the precise reason we got so hooked on the sport and started building our rigs up. There is dozens of GREAT trails in Moab that a stocker can do. In fact, I'll say that Moab is the BEST place for a stock or superstock Explorer to wheel just because there are so many great trails available for stockers that have scenery just as breathtaking as that found on the hardcore trails. You can go to our "Featured Runs" section off of the main page of this website and visit trip reports from our prior years. You can also do a search for "Moab Itinerary" and that will pull up the registration thread for the years that I helped plan the event; I listed all of the participants by vehicle category and you can see how many stock and superstocks came that particular year - always several.

Like mrboyle posted, usually there are lots of stock vehicles that attend. The only reason there may be less now is that the ones that go to Moab quit being stock after the trip :exporange: :D

i just dont want to go all the way out there and only be able to run a few trails, then just be sitting around for the rest of the time....I'll most likely make this run only once for a looooong time, so i wanna do it right. Im gonna try to slap on a BL and some 33s before i go, but i need to find a set of tires to borrow as i wont be able to swing the 5-600$ bill for some tires when i just bought these...(college budget ;) )
