There is no PATS type system. I've got the full FSM set (including wiring!).

In my case, it's really easy since it came from a 2wd/5speed version.

The problem childs are the gas tank sensor, the WU-TWC doesn't fit between the engine and frame in the stock location. I do not know if CARB will accept a modified gas tank, and allow movement of the WU-TWC farther away from the manifold. But this is a Moab discussion, not 'How does this Thomas stuff this engine into his zuk?'.

Oh, and yes, there is a kit you can buy to install it in a normal zuk, but that kit does not pass california smog.

Ok so besides skidplates (I have a t-case one and plan for a gas tank one to be fab'd in the winter), what else should some of us be thinking of for mods to get ready for a first trip to Moab?

I'm looking to get a power tank-like setup (from a local shop) for air... but what else?? Thanks for any insight you all can add.

And by the way, I already have the mandatory items as listed in the mandatory items list (ie. CB, tow attachment points, tow strap, etc).

Sliders under the doors if you dont have them already. with your long wheelbase of a sporttrac you will put sliders to work alot to save your roackers and doors.

For you, with that ST wheelbase, I'd say more lift for better clearance. And a locker, if you don't have one.

This sucks i wont be able to make it!!! I am originally from tooele utah so moab was a weekend thing for me.In fact the first lifted explorer i ever seen was in line at dump bumb waiting to take a turn. The ttb was painted silver and the truck just looked flat out good. I havent been back in 5 years. (Joined the Navy) When i first found out about this run i was so happy. But then i saw may 13-14. Ill still be in Japan :( . O yeah all you stockers dont worry. Every gas station has books for sale that states every trail what kind of lift you need size of tire if you need lockers, ways around certain spots very detalied. Jrgaylor in town cops dont care (its moab). Its the earths version of the moon. O yeah bring your own ice unless you like to spend around 3 dollars for a bag. Have fun guys and gals  ill be watchin for updates in japan.

Another important point - Bring your own beer from out of state!!! Utah only has 3.2 beer. I found this out the hard way. :fire:

Actually, to get non-3.2 beer, you have to buy it at:

Utah State Liquor Store
55 West 200 South
Moab, Utah
Open Monday - Saturday
11:00 am - 7:00 pm
Utah State Liquor Store
265 South Main
Monticello, Utah

And expect at least 75% markup + state taxes. According to one site I found, a 12pack of "heavy" beer could cost as much as $10.

Anywhere else in Moab except for the micro-breweries, it's 3.2 beer, aka "less filling, tastes great!"

Haha thats true us utahns call your beer "highpoints".

Anyone else making this trip from the midwestern or eastern states? Definitly need a caravan.....

RockRanger: Well, at least that's one thing I have covered... my sliders should be nice and used by this trip (I went the square tube to round tube outriggers at an angle- route). Thanks

yeah, I'm not sure if I can swing it yet... I don't want to do a BL; but I'm thinking eventually I will get some springs for a bit of help in the back (trust me, I should have at least 2 coolers of Beer for an overnight stay in Utah :D  ). I have an L/S in back and I'm waiting for more mileage on it (and time to save $$) before I go with a selectable. So maybe I can look on the site...I know I've seen some pretty good designs for a front skid plate... Thanks again

And Splodo... sorry you won't be stateside by the time this goes off, thanks for servin man!! :) :us:

Thanks becker. Best believe that the next trip though you all will see my mug thier. Thats a promise. ;)

Just a little FYI. Transporting beer from out of state across Utah state lines is ILLEGAL! If you are caught with it most troopers will either confiscate it (to restock their own supplies) or make you pour it out, but you can be fined. The good news is that most troopers only target boaters heading to Lake Powel. Just be careful not to get pulled over and you should be fine.

 Thanks for the info and some trivia!! I had no idea.

"target boaters heading to Lake Powel"

I have never had a issues with UT cops, I frequent the state, even with boat, and that illegal 4.8% Keystone Light we get here in CO. :)
What do they do if you are passing through UT only?
I mean I know they could still take it, but to me as long as you are not being total idiot, driving while impared, or giving the trooper a hard time, I am guessing he'll leave your beer alone :)

Dang, if they ever search my Explorer I'd get locked up for life.... too bad a Texas Kleenex Box won't hold much beer, LOL.

Of course, if RangerX ever gets caught with some of that 10% Double ******* Ale, he'd probably get charged with a felony. :D

Jamie - thank goodness someone else finally admits to drinking Keystone Light, LOL.

My friends and I are soley responsible for dropping the price of Keyston 30 packs on this side of town, I am convinced. Owner: "thats our best seller!" Reply: "yup I know, Me, Dave, and Brian are your best customers"
They are down to 13.99 at times. I love Keystone, its great beer! "It's the specially lined can"

Did I tell you about the time RangerX and I were driving to Moab (for your wedding FYI) and the cop followed us for about 5 miles, then went around me and pulled him over? hahahaha

Hahaha! ;)

He didn't get my beer.

As a Utah local but a Texas native I'm always passing through Moab on my way back from Texas with the X loaded with Shiner, Everclear and Fireworks from New Mexico. I've never been puller over(*knock on wood*) but I'ver also never given them a reason to do so. Truth is from what I hear they mainly concentrate on the "smuglers" running goods from Evingston, WY to SLC on 80 or Denver to SLC on 70. I dont think they really care about Moab, its seem to be the one area where the cops are typically laid back.
