So I should only need to worry about plating up the gas tank? Are there some that come stock? What does it look like, so I can tell if I have one already? Sorry for all the Q's.

This would be my first serious offroading in my X. Not sure what all is necessary. Thanks for the advice though.

Alright. please help me with my delema! My Ex with its brand new 35" is in Arizona while im in college in Denver!!! Not to mention it still has stock gears :thumbdwn: Would I break somthing trying to do moab with 3.73's and 35"s? I wont be able to get geared until after moab.

yes we are going to have a *huge* convoy going out from the Denver area...just need to arrange it.

Does anyone have a extra seat? I could prob help pay for gas or somthing :D I think I am done with school the week before moab. I could also help with camping or whatever. I have done alto of offroading in AZ but always wanted to go to Moab.

Thanks!!!

Well, if you're willing to pay for gas, I'm sure we can find a spot for you.

There is a good you pull it yard in Aurora. The couple times I was there they had explorers and there prices are good.

Check the Colorado contingent for a thread on convoying to Moab. " Who's going to Moab."

I may be going to Moab with 3.73s and 32s depends on if I can find a rear axle with 4.10s and get it put in.

Tim

3.73 and 32's are not that bad at all especially on the highway there and back. plenty to do in Moab with that setup

Aviator, are you talking about Pull and Save? I've been there before for my old 93 blazer after i wrecked it. Glad I sold it off to a buddy and got my X. Anyway, they are a great place with good prices. Just remember to bring your tools!

A 'you pull it place' in Aurora? Sounds too good to miss. If anyone has the details i'd love to get them. Oh, and flyboy, depending on how work and time allows, my fiancee's dad (A Heeper) has an amazing shop and seems pretty fearless when it comes to fabricating, so when I get (if i get) around to making armor and bumpers, we could do yours too.

With some slight modifications to the design template being that we have a 7 year dif in cars.

Yeah, check it out at www.pullnsave.com

Some armor would be awesome. Don't know if I'll be able to get any by Moab, but I'll keep it in mind.

So about how many people ended up going on the Moab runs in the past? I can't wait for this year.

Well, if you're willing to pay for gas, I'm sure we can find a spot for you.

Awesome, Colorado people let me know.

What about my 3.73 and 35"s? bad idea?

I'm thinking 3.73's and 35's would be a stretch... although I believe Jon Johnstone ran on 3.73's with his 35" MTR's (I'm not positive though). I would expect it to be an absolute stone on the bottom end... are there implications of potential tranny problems? I don't know for sure.

I went to Moab for my first time last year on 32's with 4.10's and no underside armor (save for the sliders I have).... I'm hoping on the insurance of a gas tank skidplate this go if I can swing it (it was probably a mistake going without at least a gas tank SP).

i have 35s and 3.55s.....most of us FSBs do cause its such a ***** to regear

***** to regear until your transmission blows up

If you are a 5 speed its a bit easier to get away with that but automatic = asking for it.
3.73 and 35's = I would not miss moab just because of that, instead I would rev the hell out of my rig on the trail and see if I can blow it up. In Moab you can pick your difficulty level.

I would rev the hell out of my rig on the trail and see if I can blow it up

haha, I will just throw a few spares in the tool box. Easy trail fix, right?:D

I'll be on 35's with 3.73's and auto! HAHA, I know it's gonna suck, but I don't think I have the time or $ to complete my SAS before Moab. Too bad my D44 and 9" will just be sitting in the garage!

I think I will have to take it a little easier this year.

So I'm really trying to decide whether to do a big lift (Superlift 4" or RCD 5"/soa) or doing it the easier and cheaper way (2" TT/Shackles). I've got the 3.73 LS in the rear and will probably be running some 32"s. I have the money to do the bigger lifts, but not sure if it's worth it for a beginner like myself. Any suggestions?

yes stick with 2" tt and shackles for this run, get to know your ex a bit and see other trucks and what they can do.
Its worth it just for the drive.

Trying to squeeze in a drop bracket lift right now before you even go wheeling in Moab is a bad idea IMO, opening a can of worms.

You will be amazed at what you can do with just a little tweaking
and the $$ you would blow right now on a drop bracket kit, install, parts, etc you might regret later

That was kind of the direction I was leaning toward. Thanks. I really like the idea of saving some $$. Not to mention the work. Time to price out some shackels. Seems like Warriors are the #1 choice on the forum.

plus drop bracket lifts are $$$ and you could spend that $$$ on a SAS depending on how serious you want to get with your Explorer.

Take a look at Gerrald Garret's rig on this forum, he is an example of what a torsion twist, gears, and lockers are capable of off road in an otherwise stockish Explorer...

You build your rig as your wheeling experience growns, dont just hop in a built rig and give it a go....come out see what its all about
