Ha! I like your style! We'll figure sumthin' out

...maybe we can get boomer, and maybe a few others to come out to calico thurs.-fri and i will camp at calico with them while you head back to laughlin...:D

I'll be in training, and will be stuck with Sat-Sun off thru the rest of the month...:(

Otherwise I'd be there.

...i was hoping you could get in on this...hopefully ritsui and a few others will catch the flue and join in when the time comes...if i knew i had enough gas money i would continue the end of this trip up thru big bear...:D

I will probably be up in Barstow on Sat. the 15th to watch some friends race.

Maybe we could do a quick desert run Sun morning on your way out...:dunno:

mojave road

So if you start the Road on Tuesday, where would you meet and what time. have been trying to find the Mohave Road on Mapquest and Google maps, but not working so need a start point. Or place to meet. Have to see if the kid wants to go but looks good for that week. We could come out Monday night meet Tuesday.

The start of the Mojave Road itself is just north of AVI Casino on Needles Road/Pew Highway.

The Guide shows:
35° 3.08'N
114° 40.58'W

Group will probably meet closer to the casino I think.

Edit: Brian posted plans to start the road sometime Monday, not Tuesday.

Humm didn't he say something about doing some ghost towns Monday then the Road on Tuesday ??? No big thing really but need to know what day he is starting the Mojave Road and where.

...i'm almost 100% sure we start mon. at the ghost towns at laughlin, then tues thru wed on the mojave and thurs. at calico ghost town...
...maybe we can have brian update the first post to show the meeting place and time and possibly include channel 3 or ? for the cb...i am all for more people joining in on an historic and scenic trail run...

That's what i thought he was saying. So at this point we'll plan on being at the Indian casino tuesday morning, unless things change. Will be myself and the kid Gijoel, one explorer and one j**p.

...just keep an eye on here as i've been wrong before and this is brian's trip and his schedule, me, i'm just playing tourist and enjoying the trip..:D

Yeah Tbars is right. We will be starting the road Tuesday morning from the AVI casino parking lot/gas station.

First post is updated. I put the meeting time as 8:30-ish. I would like to get started on the road early in the 9 o'clock hour.

Glad you can join us

I just read 100 pages of the Mojave Road guide last night, Im getting excited!!

Sorry. I just assumed 1/2 day in ghost towns meant start the Road Monday afternoon.

Anyway, if you're not starting until Tuesday, then I'm officially out. It's at least two full days for the road and I have to be back Wednesday. Take lots of pics.

...that reminds me...i got to find a couple gerry cans before this trip...maybe if i do it quick, i can fill them while the gas is only $3.50 instead of $5.00 bucks by the time we hit the trail...

...anyone got some cans to lend or for sale??? must have good seal as they will be inside...:(

Sounds like for these longs trips you should invest in a nice rear bumper/tire carrier with the holders for the gas cans and tools and stuff. That would be look very nice on your explorer.

carlover, p.m. sent...;)

...i've decided against the rear bumper and rack on top...i know it would come in handy on these long runs but i am kind of found of my current set up for most of the runs i do...i also thought a gerry can holder on a hitch would do but i haven't seen any...

I plan on taking 1 - 5gal. can with me. I just made the mount last week but I need to finish it by making a lock. Got my GPS mount finished today. Off to the tire and alignment shops this coming week and hopefully 4wp will get my exhaust to me before I leave so mine doesnt fall off on the trip (under warranty)

I wont have room for any firewood on my way out there but I could try and find some at a grocery store or something if we want to have a fire the nights we are primitive camping.

...that's generally what i do, get it out there somewhere and help the local economy...

I hate to be that guy...

...but for any that might not know desert survival tips. *link is to BLM website and may not always work*

...and since you're planning on camping in the preserve, it might be a good idea to spend the $5 and pick up a campfire permit as well...
