Well
This one was free, as in I traded some knowledge for it.
Now I have 45 dollars into it, and if it will work, well 45 bux isn't bad for a wireless laptop, you know?

I have this desktop for photos and stuff.

BTW Jamie
Do you mind if I build a project box to house the scantool board?
I just happen to have one

go for it hommie

I recently installed my GPS palm pilot into the explorer, I plan to get Autotap for it, so I can run my OBD-II scan software frommy palm, so the scantool will only be used until I win the lotto and can afford more toys

A friend of mine built up a 90 fox body stang a few years back with alot of the components I see on your list, We had terrible problems trying to achieve a decent Idle from it when it warmed up, it would run ok when it was cold. it turned out to be: when warm the fan would push air over the maf inlet (k&n cone filter) disrupting airflow to the point it could not read it well, a cold air intake system fixed it. just a thought

heh heh

Dayum! except its supossed to be sitting on your passenger seat

ok
I am using the easy obdII software off the scantool site
Awsome!!

I can drive around and watch all the trims-load values-ignition timing,Throttle position, temps, airflow, wow

Can someone please tell me, what should the trim values be, o2 sensor trims, stuff like that
I would like to know the target values please

Also, I pulled no codes, only 1 pending code--455 emissions leak, but I think that is when I got gas with engine running.

I have been using a Davis Carchip for reading codes in the past. I'm going to have to buy one of these here toys

Glad to know it works!
Post your data then the experts here will tell you how you are looking, however with no codes I am guessing you are within limits hahahaha
see how smart I am!

Also

Dont get gas with the engine running man!!! geesh........I mean I know it doesnt hurt anything, UNTIL YOU SPILL GAS

I can't post the numbers, the charts are all screwed up

jk
The values keep changing faster than I can write them down.
I haven't tried the freeze frame function, do you suppose that locks in an average reading???

I believe you can record for a period of time and then print the report, also the freeze frame function. Dude I have had this sucker for like a year and never hooked it up, so you are the guinnea pig here :)
There are forums on the website with lots of info/answers I believe?

I made the mistake of buying from sears....then they wouldn't take it back....now it comes in handy for somethings....but I'd ,love to have something better......what did you have to buy to connect to your laptop?

Looks pretty sweet

I got the Carchip on sale....of course it's been discontinued...but Sears kept a the receipt it was on from a different item exchange..and then said they never sold that model....man I was angry....I have to get a different one though...they are a pretty valuable tool.....first....I have to get that upper intake back on....it's been so windy and I have no cover until now(bought a Camping gazebo...been toying with taking the lower intake off and cleaning it but don't know if it would be worthwhile....or i'd have the patience......

I have to say, the carchip is still cool, and yes I got mine from sears also,
it does catch all codes, and re-arm the PCM, plus captures data.

I just think this scantool is much cooler!!.
it can use software available from several sources.

plus
I just noticed
It measures speed in reverse!! wow

mine doesn't have as many features as the Carchip EX....it works better for my Aunts Saturn SL2 1996 than it does my 2002 Exp. Sport.....I was looking for something to track down my lean codes and misfire codes.....so I would know weather or not I needed new O2 sensors...should take the Upper intake off.....Turns out(so far anyway) that not only were the o-rings needing replaced but the underside of the PCV hose elbow going into the upper intake looked like swiss cheese when I got it all apart....so I guess I had a double vacuum leak?!

I think I found my problem

I will explain to the best of my ability.

In an earlier post I mentioned a dip in the maf tuner chart, which I adjusted for with the idle band adjustment potentiometer. ( so I thought)

After viewing the training vids on the above link, i remembered them saying the maf reference voltage at idle should match engine displacement, in liters.
So, i consulted the readouts while running the easy obdII and scantool, I noticed the maf reference was 5.35v---should be 5.64 v correct?
The same idle band pot is the adjustment.
I tried to bump it up, and the maf reference went completey high, then low, so I then just wiggled the pot, yup, as I was suspecting earlier, that pot is flaking out. It is bad, right in the sweet spot I need.

No wonder this had been driving me nuts for so long. And, as I stated earlier all attempts to communicate with pro-m have failed. I guess I will have to pursue this a bit harder.

Still trying to find a software package which will log my data for a tune.

Anyone know about reading the transmission data? i cannot find anything on it.

I don't know if anyone is reading this
But I am truly amazed by the flexibility of this stock PCM

I can tweak the MAF reference (idle band) voltage, vary it quite a bit, and watch the PCM recalibrate for it, without a CEL

What this tells me, if you do have a maf sensor code, it is way off, or disconnected.

Also, it is good to note the symptoms, which I will do.
Could be some unsolved driveabilty syptoms are from a glazed over, or uncleanable maf filament?

I hate when my pot flakes uot:D No I have not been smoking any.

Looks like you have found your gremlin.

Today's been a Zen day for Mountaineer's.

I buy Mountaineergree's front stock drive shaft which brings him money to make him & his wife happy. In turn I'm happy because I can get my Mountaineer on the road again & Jtsmith is happy because he has found his problem & is also happy that I will be getting my Mounty back on the road.

I'm happy for Jtsmith because he has his Mountaineer running right again & Mountaineergree has some money to make him & his wife happy:)
