Newly purchased 01 V8

98 was the last year of the metal tank I believe..

I'm not sure when they changed back again, I thought it was closer to the end with the 2001's. I have a 1999 Sport tank that is steel, I bought it from a JY just for the pump assembly, it was dented from a fork lift. I kept the whole thing to get the sensors from it, recall I was going to use my old 93 tank for my Mountaineer, to use with a BW 4406 TOD. If the plastic tanks are more common in the 2nd gen 4dr's, I might have to have one for my 99 Limited also. I worry about the rusting of a tank not used for many years.

For storage fill them up to the tippy top and add stabil
Doesn’t always happen that way! Hahaha

For statistics, my '99 Sport also has a steel fuel tank.

Maybe two door tanks were always metal? Only the 4 doors went to plastic? I ask because I do not know

I know the sport tracs have plastic tank and it holds 22 gallons

That's what I'd like to find for my 98 project. I'm guessing, just like the 1st gen plastic 4dr tanks are shorter than the 2nd gen steel 4dr tanks, is the Sport Trac tank the same length as a 2nd gen Sport tank(steel of course)?

I compared that steel 99 Sport tank to my saved 93 Limited tank I had stored, they are a match in length and the Sport skid plate matches it too. I may not have future issues with a steel tank, but my Mountaineer must have a replacement. I'd rather use a plastic one if it was easy to swap in place of it. If the Sport Trac tanks are a great match, I'd like two of them, one for my Mounty and one for the project SUV.

This is my old 93 tank above my rusty 98 Mountaineer tank. I thought I had a picture of the steel 99 Sport tank also, I might in some other folder.

eventually if you park on hill you might find your truck at the bottom of said hill...
I removed my front driveshaft to get better mpg, and this is a disaster waiting to happen if you don't use the ebrake, which mine did not work.
When the temps drop, the coupling loosens, so it holds ok until the evening then it will roll into the street...or worse.

I removed the coil packs today for inspection, no obvious signs of cracking or anything. I swapped positions so we'll see if the same codes come back. I took her for a spin as it usually throws the CEL when you romp on it. no check engine light yet, although it is much cooler today so I am wondering if that has something to do with it.
Almost a month later and still no Check Engine light, so there must have been a loose wire. NO complaints here haha.

Took the explorer for a spin the the other night and noticed lights flickering, oil gauge bouncing, and popping noise from stereo (even though it was turned off). Popped the hood and found the body ground wire from the battery was melting and corroded. The PO had replaced it with like a 14GA wire just twisted together (I should have replaced this a long time ago). The insulation began melting and I could see the wire was corroded. Replaced the wire from the battery to body ground with a 10GA wire and crimped it together and no more melting wires!

@TechGuy82 Sounds like an easy win! Good going, hopefully there won't be any more issues there moving forward.

The explorer hasn't been washed since I bought it in April so I figured I'd show it some love. The boy has passed his driver's license test so it seems like a good time to get the outside all cleaned up. It's been sitting the sun a lot where we have to park it so the paint was heavily oxidized. I used some ONR to wash it, used my DA polisher and a light pad with Meguires 205. The oxidation came out nicely. I used Opti Seal after that. Looks pretty decent for a 23 year old car. Still lots of scratches, but that's fine.

Looks really sharp! Best of luck to your son in driving.

Also, is that your Tremor 150 in the background?

He will need all the luck he can get!

And yes, 2022 F150 Tremor 402a with torsen front diff, and level with a softopper. Not as cool as the explorer to some, but I think it's a pretty nice truck haha!

Nice! I love the newer F150s, especially with the coyote. Actually looked at an XLT not long ago... not like it's affordable though :p Did your Tremor come with the 3.5?

Mines the 3.5. I bought it used with 5k miles on it so I saved a bit, but yeah they are ridiculously priced these days and don't hold resale value especially being the higher trim.

Both of 'em are pretty things! Definitely partial to the Explorer myself, but those F-150's are nice looking machines.

Very nice, and I love that color too.

Roger! I wanted one with a coyote so thjat meant more $. Even used ones around here are pretty near cloes to new price... Ill get a 2024... in 2034!

Got about 7" of snow over night. Had the explorer since April and havent had any snow to test out the AWD. Pleased to say AWD works! This thing is a donut making machine! Drives well in the deep stuff. It has some cheap H/T tires that are from 2018 so I need to get something new. Maybe the Hankook Dynapro AT or similar. What is everyone running for AT's for snow use ( stock size)?

The Cooper Evolution have been the best traction rubber for tires in the last two years for me. I use typical SUV tread patterns, not the big lug 4WD type, so I can't say about those. This Evolution tire has been the best on wet roads and when nearly bald(now). The AT3 4S had been my favorite, the Evolution is better.

I heard the Falken AT4Ws are great, so that's what I got earlier this year. We just got our first day below freezing a couple days ago so no snow yet. But they worked well in the sand! I'm excited to try them out in a few weeks.

I went from 255/70R16 to 235/85R16. That only comes in LT. Ride quality was similar to my old ATs, but mileage got pretty bad since they're heavy and just larger. I think like 20lbs heavier per tire and a 10% increase in diameter - I haven't seen anything close to 20MPG since last year. However, I'm also currently chasing a fuel related issue and that's just making the mileage even worse. So I can't exactly tell you what the MPG changed to just from the tires, because I don't remember.
I know you can fit 245/75R16. I had studded tires in that size for years and they were just as good. Just tell your son that he's actually going to be going faster than what the speedo says and it can put you in trouble. Totally not speaking from experience with speed cameras in a school zone... nope!
You can also fit 265/75R16 without a lift. You might need to trim the front bumper to turn completely while the front is under load. I did just in case for off-roading, but you don't need to with 235/85 (which is the same diameter).

The accurate tire diameter for the speedometer is 30", the various OEM sizes have not had anything to do with a speedometer calibration change. The 235/75/15's all were 29" and the speedometer was the same(1995-2001+), so those all read too high by radar. The later stock 16's were 255/70/16's, so 30", and those give the most accurate speedometer reading. A change of an inch will alter the speedometer by 2-3mph at 50mph or so.
