Outer Window Moldings

Mine looks way worse on rear drivers side. Then the rear passenger side door sticks out on the bottom. Hmm

yeah I dont know but every car i see has very tight window areas, the space behind the gasket doesnt look like it should have water running down it.
i dont think this is a just a covering, its an external gasket that should be tight-especially on a window that doesnt move.

look at any car, old or new, nothing looks as loose as this.

I just took delivery of an Explorer Sport. Both rear window seals are horribly loose. I walked around my $50k car from a company that is doing such a great job competing and wondered how they could let this crap roll out the door.

It actually has the worst/cheapest looking seals all around the car. There was one in plain sight where it split. It's as if the roll of trim stopped there and they started with a new roll. Come on, they couldn't have figured this out and done something?

Oh, this car rocks and I wouldn't trade it for just about anything. A Cayenne Turbo S, maybe. But then I'd need to buy another Sport for where I want to hold more than the groceries.

Trim around windows - piss poor quality

Why is the trim around the windows so poor fitting ? And why does ford allow the explorer to leave its plant with poor fitting trim - really it should not pass quality control like this. Every explorer I have seen has **** quality trim it doesn't even sit flush with the door and it the cut portions don't even line up it looks like it was cut by a grade 1 student really.

Anyone else notice this ?

:) maybe I should have done a search first :) was on the iPhone watching chicago pd and was too lazy to search. Still don't know how a car can leave a factory like this. Quality job none !

This is what I have been seeing with rear trim..

See photos - It just looks cheap.. I assume this is caused by air pushing out on the seals or simply just terrible fit over the course of the day - but I do hear decent wind noise / air leaks it seems while driving.

My 3 week old explorer is currently at the dealership having the TSB performed for the exhaust and both rear door quarter windows and mouldings replaced. Like most who have found their way here I was shocked to read through page after page containing years worth of complaints about this. The dealership is confident the TSB will fix the problem, I'm obviously skeptical after all of the testimonials here.

Itjball, what was the deal with your windows. I have noticed on my 3 week old 16 XLT the moldings looks a bit rough, almost like the had been grinded on.

Mine do not sit flush with the main window trim. They are curled upward where they meet. Service adviser said it was a common problem for the 15s.
