im not sure how well the u-bolt plates will work. i've though about them bending too, maybe some re-inforceing should be looked at. but for the most part i think they'll be fine but i see how they could limit my flex.

-deavers are in the garage

-some pieces of the parking brakes were swicthed to the wrong side, so the brakes were dragging. brakes are running good, just need to setup the parking brake.

im gonna try for cleghorn on sunday, and probably a glamis trip over spring break.

So no mojave road for you two? Hmm, glamis does sound fun, i'm kinda liking the soft sand more than hard packed stuff with my crappy stockish suspension.
A friend and i were also considering pismo..but it's kinda far, maybe save that for the summer.

wow, you are lucky that driveshaft didn't act like a pole vault. Did it mess up your splines? That happened to me back in college and I cleaned them up with a cutoff wheel.

Not sure of the dimensions, but get me the length of how long your current driveshaft is. I have 3 Explorer drive shafts and don't see why I would need more than one spare. One has been lengthened, the other I think is a stock 4 door driveshaft, which may work for you.

Remember if you go doubler, that will require another drive shaft change. at $125-150 a retube, it may be cheaper to wait. I can ship my shaft to you for probably less than 20 bucks. You can even just use it as a loaner if it's long enough to use until you need to retube the shaft for the doubler.

That's Just sounds so so wrong.

i only need it about an 1-1/2" longer. i would assume a four door shaft is around 10" longer because of the wheel base difference. im gonna call the shop tomorrow and see how much it costs. it might only be $65. but yes, the splines are grinded from the road. might be usable but i'll check the price on one from the junkyard tomorrow.

hey here's some parts i gotta pick up. holla if you have them for sale

2door drive shaft
4door rear springs
2door quarter panel glass

:D

no mojave. gotta figure out the dates and ill make a Glamis thread.

I have a set of 4 door springs if you want them too.

My spare D-shaft I made a 1.5" or so adapter for. It's a round piece of aluminum with longer bolts. Vibrate at higher speeds, but works fine at lower speeds. and it was dirt cheap to make;)

i was thinking about that idea. just thought it would be better to extend the shaft itself.

i think Froader lives closer. you gonna be home wednesday or thursday night?

When I needed to extend the front shaft on my truck about an inch I bought a different yoke. Dana website lists all the specs. You can look up what you have and then see if anything they have will work for you. That is how I did my front shaft.

had the drive shaft extended at a local shop, and picked up some 4door springs from froaded. thanks again colin, that was way cool of you.

me and justin are gonna run cleghorn on sunday. so we'll see how everything works. and we'll see how justin's 4runner does on 37's

anyone wanna come?

this last sunday, on my way to cleghorn, didn't get but two miles from home when the car just stopped being able to drive. engine still ran fine but it wouldn't put power to the wheels. tried 4x4, didn't work. nothing was hanging from the car and i could hear what sounded like little pieces rattling around. towed it to the shop thinking the clutch blew up. replaced the clutch with a luk high performance clutch. car still doesn't move :( trans is shot. no gears, no engagement. just the sound of metal chips tossing around.

So are you going with the C4 and doubler now?

Dayum!!! All this and now the trans! Been there done that, sorry to hear!

I replaced my trans one time only to find out the noise was coming from my clogged cat converter... LOL it can be frustrating!!

getting the 5speed rebuilt.

thought about the c5 sitting in the garage, but it needs rebuilt to.... and to install it means new crossmember, shifter, tranny cooler and cooler lines, temp gauge, new front and rear drive shafts, and no overdrive.

but probably the main reason is i've grown not to like auto trans. i probably won't buy another car with auto trans untill im a middle aged guy.

Im always worried my auto is going to crap out in the dirt. 185k miles on the OG one is pushing it lol. Maybe it's time for the C4??

yeah i think i have around 180k ish on the nav. that trans was the sloppiest trans i've ever driven but it was a trooper. i've got a c5 i can sell you ;)
