WoW have to agree, that is one nice Ranger also! For whatever reason, I either forgot you had it or didn't know you had it... Wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of it.

And your intention of not going nuts Evil went away eons ago!! Cant get enough of following what you are going to do next (as usual).

second day of owning it

second week of owning it. notice a little pattern here?

5th month of owning it

but if you really want, this is what i cut my teeth on. it was a 85 BII that i owned when i was around 20 years old. once again, stock when i bought it, but.....my folks were not amused when i hid out at a friends place for 4 days and didnt tell them what i was doing, and rolled home with it lifted.

That was me with my Explorer in it's previous life as a DD. :D

I took the mighty 347 for a drive with Tim last night.
I will say it feels like a stump puller. Nice truck. As Tim said, it oozes testosterone.
I'm always amazed what a body lift does when you look under the hood. It just seems to make it look like there is so much more room, and the motor seems so much smaller.

I have to admit, it has me poking around on fordstrokers web site. Maybe if i had a shortblock shipped to the office my wife wouldn't know what I did?

HAHA.. Best of luck Don!

Tim, I was driving my truck a couple days ago and paid close attention to how it feels at idle when in gear. It almost feels like it has a miss too due to the way the cam is. It is very noticeable to the point that the passenger seat and seat belt wiggle.

Don, YEA! Have it delivered there, we can pick it up with the ranger, and I can see if we can find a place to put it in besides your place! That there is a marriage saver if you ask me lol. And yea, stump puller is a good way to sum it up. That thing is something Chuck Norris would drive.
Andy, k cool. I figured that but wasn't sure. I will also probably replace the motor mounts with new ones as well when I do this. I'm sure the ones that are in there have screamed for mercy, and the ones in evil scream it every time I bring it out.

newest update. have some of the new brackets for the m112 back from kevin.

what sucks is he is moving two provinces away in january. so after that, no more flamed up parts :(
i also swallowed some of my own pride and have a aem meth kit coming now. when the 347 goes in, i want to try and run around 14-15psi of boost. i have heard that using meth will rip the teflon off the rotors, hope they are wrong. one of the ways i will try and get the boost up with is a bigger balancer as well, so i have to get one of them made. no biggie because when i get it made, i am going to get them to make a 8 rib, and convert everything over to match the supercharger pulley. i am a little worried at the same time. the 347 is a 10.2 compression motor. i am not sure if i should leave it that way, or get thicker head gaskets. but if i do that, then another can of worms opens because the push rod length will be wrong. looking at summit's site, and using one of their calculators, i would need a gasket that is .075 thick to get 9.5 which is where i would rather be (the ones in the motor now are .047). also have a cam picked out now as well.
on a sad note, brads truck drove for the last time last night. tonight i started taking it apart. tomorrow don is going to swing by and give me a hand as well. i am hoping to have the trans out tomorrow night, and the motor out on saturday. and yes, this is still a hard thing to do for me. i really did like that truck, and still think its a shame to do what i am doing to it.....

Does Brad's balancer have the bolt on crank pulley like mine, which is a Cobra part the same diameter as an Explorer stock balancer? If it is, then it's a 94/95 pulley, and you should be able to locate other larger choices. The stock 94/95 pulley is bigger, around 6.5" as I recall. Do the math and see how much that will change the blower rpm, versus the 6" pulley. I'm not sure what larger crank pulleys are available, hopefully there are 8-rib units from the aftermarket.

If that is the small Cobra pulley and you don't need it, I'd like it for one of my other 302 strokers.

the only problem i fear about changing a pulley if its a bolt on is it might, and i mean might throw off the balance. with this motor, i am not taking any chances. if she blows, i more then likely will never be able to replace it with another stroker.

The balancer and flywheel(flexplate) are the only external items that are balanced with the reciprocating assembly. I sent Woody my new OEM old Ford 28oz balancer to do my 347 with. I'm sure Brad did the same thing, except that he bought that modified balancer from me.

I had my local machine shop correct the trigger wheel mounting of the first one I paid Total Performance to modify. They did fine except that the trigger wheel would spin on the balancer(not easily). I sent that one to Woody and he used it to balance my 347. When I received the engine, the trigger wheel was spun around about 180 degrees(pictured below(see the crank keyway)). That wouldn't be an issue for balance given the aluminum wheel's weight and close to perfect balance. My machinist moved and pinned the trigger wheel in place, and I had him make the 2nd balancer using another new 28oz unit(and a used Explorer trigger wheel).

The balancer you have on that 347 is the left unpainted one pictured below, on my kitchen floor. I have the first one(black one you see there), and that Cobra pulley. The pulley is from any 94/95 Mustang, Cobra. The other 94/95 302 Mustangs had a bigger pulley.

So you should be able to swap your crank pulley for any 94/95 Mustang 302 version available.

forgot to tell you brad, kevin, the guy that does all my flames for me is moving to edmonton. if you ever want stuff like that done, and dont mind the drive, i'll hook you up lol. he is killer with a airbrush, and does more then just flames.

trans and transfer case are now out. don came by and gave me a much needed hand. its amazing how much of a difference having a body lift in a truck can make things go that much smoother. don was egging me on to push ahead with pulling the motor tonight. motivation was there, but the energy for me wasnt. so we will pick up tomorrow where we left off. depending what time we get there, should have the motor out early afternoon.
thanks again for the help don, wouldnt have been able to drop the trans, and transfer case out without ya!

stroker

Good luck on the engine pulling!
I love the stroker motors, cant wait to see it with boost added on top of it.
Evil is going to have one unique power plant! It going to move like a bat out of hell too!
How is the weather there, do you have heat where your are working?
My garage is getting cold, it's only 32 degrees outside right now where I live.
I will be firing up a little propane heater to keep my tools from frosting up today.

the weather has gotten cooler now (thats how we see it, for you guys down south, it would be freezing cold). right now its about -12C outside, or around 10F (i think). so yes, the shop that we are pulling everything apart is heated. even more ironic, i told don this was the exact same spot evil was painted. i also have one of those propane heaters here at home. it heats my shed in the winter. i will be using that when i start getting into the motor to do the cam, and anything else that might come to mind. im hopeful we will have the motor out today, and back at my house, then maybe next week i will start in on the motor.

and the motor is out

i did manage not to completely pull the front diff out (its still in there, but holding by the axles) but i had to unbolt the motor from the metal mounts. didnt really want to do it that way, but it was a little faster to do. came out just as expected. little to no problems.

it is also home now (insert banjo music for the red neck way of hauling it home, not going to even get into how i got it into the shed).

will go back tomorrow and clean up the mess i made at gords as well. now i can focus on getting into the motor and make a few changes, and figure out a way to clean it up. that will be the hard one without being able to use water. dont want it to freeze and make my shed floor into a skating rink.

engine out

Awesome.
Upgrade time!
I like the cap on the throttle body to keep dirt out.

Good work guys!

I can't believe how fast Tim pulled that motor.
I was in my own personal He(double hockey sticks) in a 'quick' computer upgrade and the family was on my since its a media server that's used all the time. My upgrade found the real issue I was having (The one part I hadn't purchased to upgrade).

Anyway, my apologies Tim, I really wanted to be there to help.
