Tbars Project "X" begins

I believe they were 194 bulbs I used led wedge bulbs from ebay for that bulb in my clear corners

...Next question, steering fluid...

...How much steering fluid is needed for a complete new system???...Steering gear, hoses, and pump...From my guess  it should be about 2 quarts or 32 oz....:dunno:

...I wonder if the parts stores do sell the chrome to amber 194's...We shall see...

Are you talking about how we have chrome light bulbs in our Explorers from the factory? And want to change them to an orange bulb? If that's what you mean, yes, they do have them like that.

I know because I had to replace these lights as well recently, and picked up some orange ones for when I switch over to a clear corner in a few months.

...When I was at the different auto parts stores today I seen them, well sort of...I believe the Sylvania Silver Stars are the ones...They have the turn signals bulb 3157, but I could not find the corner bulb 194 in the Sylvania Silver Stars...

...The Sylvania Silver Stars are chrome looking bulbs so they would blend in with the new lights but when they go on, they are amber...Some prefer this instead of having the clear lenses and amber bulbs...

...My X has never had bulbs conneted there since I've had it so I'll just have to wait till I can find some locally...

...Btw, the Sylvania Silver Stars turn signals bulbs 3157 were $11.99 a pair...

...Today was the last day I can really work on the X for a while and it was a real croppy day..:thumbdwn:

...It started off with my SPV I need to fix for smog that is due now...
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239949

...And so I moved on to replacing my RA's...I was only going to replace the broken one today but would have done both if I had time...

...I got to work on it about 2:30 and figured I would just do it in record time...

...I got the strap, shocks, etc. of and went to remove the bolts from the RA at the front beam...Then I found this...This is what was a nut I guess on both the upper and lower bolt and yes, they are just spinning...:wtf:

RA_nuts_003b.jpg

...I was so bent out of shape when I went to put this thing back together with it's broken RA.....If I had a plasma torch close by I would have cut this Dana 35 into so many pieces...

...I did however figure out how I can easily get 2" more of droop out of this front end...I just need to start replacing already existing stuff..:(

...Today was not to be a total loss..I picked up my mail and recieved a very special package from Kansas...My own personal EF Bling..The "Tbars Special with dog"...But wait, there's more...It's a crinkled flat black finish that I believe was done by JTSmith himself...AKA the Turdle now a days..

...These plates can be ordered here...

...And JTSmith's Powder coating work can be seen here..

say what? just spinning? shouldn't those "nuts" be welded in?

...All the ones I've seen have been...

...I thought about having my buddy tack them in for me but I figure there might be problems with the bolts and they broke loose...:dunno:

...Another thought came to mind...Have the bolts torched off and just replace them and the nuts...

I would torch them off and replace them with some high grade bolts and fasteners. Then tack them after the bushings break in.

...I first had to fix a couple codes that popped up as soon as I got my notice that I need a Smog -"Test Only" and EVAP test...

...The original code was Code 85...
Code 85 = Canister Purge Solenoid circuit failure.
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=239949

....Which was immediately followed by a Code 22..
Code 22 = MAP (vacuum) or BARO signal out of range - MAP

...I caught the rare, elusive, prehistoric, Map sensor, in it's natural surrounding's and I've got pics to prove it...:biggthump

...Back to the RA's...:hammer:

...PRE-H20 stopped by real quick for a tail light fix for his 94 sport...
RA_s_013.jpg

...While I was working on replacing the broke drivers side RA....In post #686 I had added pictures of the spinning nuts...Yesterday I ran it over to a welding shop to take care of that problem...

...The top one was relatively easy...
RA_s_003.jpg

...The bottom one required unbolting the RA bracket to get the arm swung out so there was enough access to weld..This was the money maker...:(
RA_s_004.jpg

..and I figured I would get the drivers side replaced quickly today so I got everything jacked up, unbolted, and even got the top bolt out...
RA_s_007.jpg

...I got to the bottom bolt and got about 3 easy turns on it and the 4th turn it was tough...I manned up on it and snapped the weld......I am waiting to go to grab my sawzall as the one at the shop is currently MIA...

...I' going to be leaving out this quarter inch spacer and reinstalling the 1" spacer...The 1" spacer is drilled to fit over the big bolt while the 1/4" spacer was drilled to go over the threads only...I am doing this as the new RA has the full welded plate on top which is 1/4" taller than the old superlift arm and the nut for the seat was only about 1/2 way threaded originally...
RA_s_009.jpg

RA_s_015.jpg

...I am going to get this one done minus adding a new bottom bolt today, as tomorrow it is suppose to rain...The passenger side I am expecting will have spinners too, so stay tuned for that load of fun...

...For the all important, Superlift extended radius arm install sheet, they are mixed in with the Superunner kit instructions and can be found here. (Don't even ask  )
http://www.superlift.com/instructions/1180.pdf

...This is the old P.O.S. bolt and nut next to it's replacement...The new nut, bolt, and lock washer, were $5.40...(The bolt is a grade 8, 3/4" x 10 x 1-3/4")
RA_nuts_011.jpg

...After a pack of new 8/12 sawsall blades, I was able to remove the last remaining bolt, radius arm, and some other useless hardware...
RA_nuts_008.jpg

i had to cut some pieces off my suspension the other day(rounded from rocks).. bought grade 8 replacements and it cost me 13$ for nuts bolts and washers lol..

...I'm going to buy another set just for spares...I think it will hold up but the trails will test it for sure...

...I got the passenger side bolts welded up yesterday and already broke the bottom bolt loose...It's good to go....:biggthump

...I am going to move the remaining shocks off the hoops and relocate them to the Superlift brackets...After cycling the front end, I found out I will gain over 2" droop on the drivers side and almost 2" on the passenger side...:hammer:

...This will give me some time to figure out what I can do to upgrade the front shock set up...Oh yea, and to save up for Pismo in June...:burnout:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241829

Are you just looking for a way to mount your current shocks? Or are you upgrading to something like a 2.5" shock? If keeping what you have, i have the fullsize shock mounts in my 'buy my stuff' link in my signature. :dunno:

...I did reference your parts out to Four0Sport yesterday...

...I am keeping what I have now, since I still have other parts in the back of the X that still need installing and misc. parts need bought for them, and funds have dwindled greatly in the last month...:(

...The X is still getting even with me for letting her sit...

...I was driving it around the corner to my buddy's shop and the pass side, inside brake pad fell out......So I invested in new front pads today...

....The verdict is in on my old existing set up...The coil hoops will be going but I need to buy some temp, new shocks, for the front...Probably will just get a couple Pro comps till I get around to figuring it's next upgrade...The old ones are a little short, and old, but good for spares...

...The extra 1/4" spacers are definitely removed...They left only 2 1/2 threads to start on the coil spring nuts and I want a little more warning than that...
