So went to visit the rig yesterday. It's been sitting for a few months now with a dead battery. Something drained the new battery again. Never had issues until the winch was installed.
So I install another brand new battery, but this time I installed 2 more disconnects. A throw style on the positive, and a screw style on the negative. For now the rig is just sitting, and I didn't have time to figure out the drain issue. I just wanted to start it to run for a few, and move it.
As luck would have it, the engine wouldn't run. It cranked, sputtered, ran for a second and died. Figured...hmm, the fuel in the system has evaporated, let me prime the pump a few times, then turn the key.
Nope, nothing doing. Does the same thing every time, crank, sputter, run a second, die. So Now I'm thinking the pump ain't working right. I check the fuse, all good. I pull the relay, hmm, how do I test a relay? Heck if I know, I put it back in. Try again, nope, same old same old.
So with no more time left in my day to try to figure it out, I throw the disco's on the battery, close the hood, and say my goodbyes.
I have a couple of weeks before I return to the rig, so in the meantime, I need to devise a plan of action to work on it in the best time fashion allowed. I will only have a few hours to work on it the next time I get to it.
So...
Swap the fuel pump relay
Check the pressure at the shrader valve with KOEO
Look for critters chewing the wiring
spray some starting fluid
After that, I'm at a loss for what to try besides dropping the tank and testing the pump.
Any ideas is thanked in advance!
