After much reading I have come to the conclusion that there is no definitive thread weighing the pros and cons of various exhaust set ups. Hopefully there will be enough interest expressed in this thread that it will be deemed STICKY. That having been said, if we could please refrain from comparing apples with oranges (i.e. muffler X on a v6 will not sound like Muffler X on a v8 so lets not say they will sound sorta kinda the same). Also please try to refrain from the obvious; "you can have it installed at a muffler shop", etc.
I will start the thread by asking users post with the following format:
VEHICLE: Ford Explorer
YEAR: 1996
ENGINE: 5.0L V8
PREVIOUS EXHAUST: OEM
NEW EXHAUST:
Cat-Back Kit: Yes/No
MUFFLER: 50 Series SUV Performance
MUFFLER PART NUMBER: 524554
SINGLE or DUAL IN: Dual
INPUT DIAMETER: 2.25"
SINGLE or DUAL OUT: Dual
OUTPUT DIAMETER: 2.25"
INSTALLATION: A brief description of the installation. Was a Y pipe used to combine the exhaust before entering the muffler, etc.
SOUND: Please describe the sound as objectively as possible. Even better post a sound clip. What about that in cab drone?
REMARKS: I like the sound of Muffler X better than Muffler Y
Hopefully, this will provide us all with a standardized format making it much easier to decide on the perfect exhaust for your particular type of vehicle.
That having been said, can anyone help me choose an exhaust that will give my 96 XLT V8 Explorer that perfect rumble.
