The Turdle gets a 4406!

I am not familiar with the TOD feature, or the electric shifted cases for that matter. I found several electric cases for under $400 when I was looking, with lower mileage, but I don't remember where I was looking.

IIRC, I gave $500+ tax for T case, shift assembly, and front and rear driveshafts.

I believe what happened is Ford used the same type of electric shifting in the Expeditions and Navigators. The other models must have a different control, like just buttons for two choices, like 91-94 Explorers. The internals may be the same, but I don't know. The shift motors are the same as 4405 units.

I'd think the non TOD would be much easier to wire up, you could use a 95-96 bezel with the 2wd, 4wd and 4low knob on it.

I know that might be easy but the automatic 4WD feature is very important if I do end up with 500+hp. Alex has done extremely well with his 03 Explorer and the auto 4WD TC. I'm hoping for the same kind of hands off performance.

Well it's icy on the roads, and the family was screaming for food, so I took the grocery getter out and braved the ice.
I'm telling you what, it's 27 degrees and raining, so as soon as it hits it's ice.
I tried to leave, but the front wanted to stay, and the rear wanted to go.
So, into 4wd I shifted --

Long story short, we will eat tonight. Man I am so glad I did this swap. I know the AWD would have gotten me there-but 4wd feels so much better on ice.

Stop bragging, I'm planning to clean up my BW4406 tomorrow, in the 60+ heat here. I need to track down a double cardon joint like Evan used, for the front shaft. I'm glad that you got there and back, I don't like ice on roads. Regards,

I just came from over that way. Joplin had been hit and Chetopa was about the worst area and baxter springs too.... I was doing it in 2wd. LOL Ice in that area really sucks due to not long ago the ice hit hard and hurt the tree's. I seen seveal down on houses and even some pole lights down due to ice on christmas decor. I still need to figure out about where you live. Everytime I am over that way, I think about ya. Well maybe more about your ride. LOL

Maybe going back that way again this month..... That drive gets old, and worse when it is going to St. louis.

Have fun in the ice! I recieved a redneck body kit today because of the ice... They were laughing at my lowrider and 20's. But I made it home.

Yes, but the real question is, should you? I remember the night in 1982 when our whole area was iced over. I was at UT and we all went out to watch the people driving on the ice. There are a few hills on campus, some steep and most not very. Everyone was wrecking, we have a "17th" street that many tried to go up. One made it, all others slid down backwards and sideways, they hit every car and pole along both sides.

BTW, the truck which made it to the top, the hill is far longer and just as steep going down the other side. He felt good to make it to the top, but he destroyed his truck very soon after.

I would not drive on ice unless a life was at stake. My car that night was parked in a gravel parking lot, slight hill. I came out in the morning to see a ticket on my windshield, someone had pushed my car out of the space and into the middle of the drive. Don't mess with real icy roads.

I had to take Bryan to the armory.
Man, it is ice and nothing but on these roads-I made my trip safely, to find my wife had already left for work-- . I was planning on taking her. Wimmen!

Her Nissan will be a joy I'm sure-and I'm also sure she'll be right back home. With ice covering the roads, and 1" more coming, I don't think people will be keeping their dentist appointments. Too bad her supervisor drives a Cherokee.

The problem is more with stopping than moving. I don't have a huge problen on ice with AWD. It's the stopping. ABS does not help on ice. You are going to slide when you touch the brakes regardless.

I can say this-
4wd feels a LOT different than AWD. I think the only time AWD kicks in is if there is a difference between axle speeds. The 4wd is right there.

And yes-it's best to get a feel in 2wd first-4wd gets you going faster but has absolutely no effect on braking.

I took the old county Road to Iola, about halfway is "Humboldt Hill"
There were abandoned cars in the ditch-evidently from trying to make it up-
I took a slow try at it and the road started making me go over to the side when the wheels started spinning, so, I backed up, got a running start at it and went right up. It's the wheel spin that will get you into trouble--

Took the hill at speed, got to the top and there was someone stopped there (just over the crest.) I hit the brakes, had none, tried to use the birm to slow myself down and ended up rolling it.
