The Turdle gets a 4406!

Haha, mines done and in.

BTW, did you re-use that skid plate that goes under the stock TC? I'm thinknig about modifying mine to use it but I think I'll have to take a big chunk out of it.

Mine are both still hanging on the wall--:( gas tank and transfer case plates

What:dunno:

I'm just a little worried about how low that range sensor is.

Nobody answered my question about that threaded hole above the range sensor or the brown/white stripe wire coming from the tailshaft housing.

I thought the tailshaft sensor was the speed sensor?

Maybe the second front sensor is a low fluid sensor?

They made a bunch of different versions didn't they? Mine is different still, I have nothing on the front, and at least one sensor on the back besides the VSS.

No shift indicator Don?

I have 50% rain here today, hopefully I can pressure wash my trans and TC, clean them and paint them. I'll look harder, but I think I only have the sensors on the back to deal with, plus a vent tube. The fluid in this was darker than I would like, I plan to run it a few miles on regular fluid to flush it out, then swap to Amsoil. It's dirty in and out.

I wonder if that one in front is supposed to be a vent tube? I don't recall a vent tube anywhere else on the case.

Hey-we're waiting on the mail here buddy--:p:

So
I assume I can drive an icy highway in 4wd?

Yeah, but it is better in 2wd. LOL

I would say when it is like that better if you dont have to, then stay home.
Then again I am sure you know that. Good to hear the difference in what you feel between 4wd and AWD.

Well today I did something ultra exotic cool!!

I went for a drive in the snow-when I got home I left it in 4wdhi and shut it off.

That is a first for me--

I hope that it's over for the rest of you, it's headed this way soon. I loved running the AWD in the snow with snow tires. That first year(2004) I came back from Montreal with a friend, and it felt great to mash the gas and have just the slightest squirming as it took off. I love AWD, but the BW4406 sounds like it's the better ticket. Hopefully I'll get my front shaft done this weekend. Regards,

We got 4" this afternoon, now it has been raining on top of it for 2 hours. It's gonna be real ugly when that stuff freezes tonight. :(

That looks good, now clean the rugs and find some scotch guard...

from my conversion thread, in my sig:

I asked the same question

The brown wire is circuit 779
Electric 4x4 shift module to electric clutch in t case, directly from the module to the t case.

Same wire for my 88 BII wiring book and 93 explorer book.
I am not sure if the 96 has a electric shift module or if it is done through the GEM or what
I will continue to dig, it powers some clutch inside the t case

Okay according to my 01 explorer wiring diagrams the shift module is located near the GEM and is controlled by the GEM it does have the 779 brown wire output to the t case. Power is switched to the 779 wire from the 4x4 fuse in the power dist box. So if the electric shift module does work in your truck (the signals to the GEM from the t case and possibly 4x4 button on dash will need to be hooked up in a truck like mine) then adding the fuse and hooking up the brown wire should work.

I will have to test it with a multimeter after I install the fuse, then if it works hook it up to the t case.
If not then trying to get the GEM to work with the manual shift t case and no dash switch is the next step.
completely fool the truck 100% or basically build a manual shift t case 5.0L truck like Ford should have. The question is when does the shift module send power to the t case internal clutch.
When in Neautral?
What does the internal clutch do?

I suspect its for shifting to low range when the truck is in N

I do not have this wire hooked up in my 96 XLT, I have used and abused the 4406 t case in that truck, beat the living cr*& out of it off road and I have no issues shifting from 2wd to 4hi while driving
for 4 low you have to stop and put the truck in N

I believe the brown wire is for an internal clutch inside the t case, I do not believe any of us explorer guys have hooked them up, and I am not exaclty sure why it is needed.
I can tell you my 88 BII has th esame brown wire in the 1354 t case, it is hooked up, its part of the electric shift 4x4 system on that truck...
