Last time out on the trail I sliced a sidewall that didn’t show itself for a few days… came out of work to this

Old tires were getting pretty worn out so the Explorer got some new shoes! Cragar soft 8’s in 16x7, wrapped with 285/75R16 Duratracs. Used some 98-01 Explorer center caps to finish it all off!

Looks good. I like the chrome explorer centers on the black wheels. My wheels used to be that way, now they're more rust than black!

Yeah, among other things!!

New tires and rims look great. What tow hooks are those on the front of the truck?? I'm looking for something just like that.

Thank you! The hooks are off of a first gen Expedition. Had to drill a couple holes to mount them. I’ve used them quite a bit and had zero issues with them!

I like how they look Tim. I have thought about doing that with my Rims. Painting them black keeping Center caps Chrome.

Wish I was updating with something exciting... found metal chunks in the oil today:(. I've been preparing myself for this day for a while. Laying out plans for a new motor but will have to wait on the funds and a new work space to take on that project. For now it won't get driven much unless I really need to. Have to make sure it still runs well enough for when winter comes back around.

How’s it running? What do the chunks look like? Sorry to hear about this

It’s running okay. Down on power (need to test compression) and has some bearing noise. The pieces looked like bearing material to me. They weren’t overly big, but big enough for me to be concerned with it

Opening up the oil filter and checking the filter media will give you a good idea how much metal it's been munching.

I was thinking of that the other night. Good thing I haven’t disposed of the filter yet! Hopefully I’ll get a chance this week or next to take a look.

Been working on some plans for a replacement motor. Four different plans actually: reman 4.0, 5.0 swap, VW TDI swap, or that real fancy Cummins R2.8. I’m leaning real hard towards the TDI swap. Just think it would be super cool. Once the funds and work space are available I’ll pull the trigger on one of the plans.

TDIs are cool and easily modified. I had a 2000 Golf TDI with a tuning box that really pumped up the output.

if im thibking of the right cummins (the kit one right?) those seem super cool! though i wonder how much power they can put out when built like the 4bt.

I daily a GTI and love it. It’s a turbo gasser but also super easy to modify. Part of the reason why I’m leaning towards the TDI.

Yep the crate motor direct from Cummins! I know stock they make like 160hp/310tq. Really cool motor and have always wanted to see one in an Explorer
