I thought it was something wet I placed in the back of my 2011 limited(always lay a folded sheet down when something needs to go in back). I think I will have to investigate further now and see if I have a leak. I've only had it 3 months so that was the first time I noticed anything being wet.

Just to update, Were still waiting for our Ex to return home since 5/13/13. When we called our dealer they say theyre working on it, yet when I pass by I see it parked in the Rear lot. I left a message and havent heard back. The last time we brought it in the service manager himself said "I dont know what to do... Im just calling Ford and let them handle it". Our attorney wanted to send the vehicle for an independent inspection this week, except that we dont have it, and we cant get anyone to call us back.

Welcome to the Forum :wavey:.
Being new to the Forum, there are a few things that will make it easier for you to find similar issues. There is a 'search' button that you can use and it is located on the blue band near the top of this thread. It took me a while to get familiar with some of the features as well.
The water leak is something that has been discussed many times. There is a thread called Water Leak on the same page where you posted your thread.
It has 9 pages in it.

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327803

Here is another I found doing the Advanced Search for "water leak" in this discussion thread.

Hope that helps.

Cory and or Crystal. Why is this problem still occurring? It has been 3 years now since this was first identified and the issue is still there. Can you confirm that this has been passed up the line? If so, apparently any action taken (if any) has not resolved the problem. How can quality be job #1 if this has been going on for 3 years?
I, and others, I am sure, are going to be very interested to see how long it will take for a similar post to appear once the 2014 models start arriving.
To us, the owners, it appears as though nothing is being done to fix this issue.

This post is not a reflection on what you do for us in helping to get problems addressed. I am sure we are all grateful for that. Perhaps this Forum should be made mandatory reading for some other individuals (engineering, quality control) if they are truly interested in improving their product and getting real time feedback from actual owners.

Thank you for what you do.

Peter

Well said Peter.

explorer 515,

Welcome to the boards! :) I’m confident your dealer will take care of the leak.

Thanks; we absolutely feel appreciated around here, Peter. We definitely understand the importance of durability and quality, which is why we monitor feedback on this forum. You also have played a big part by recommending customers send us their contact info. Please remember only documented concerns within the Ford system can be properly reviewed by Ford Engineering, so diagnosing vehicle issues at dealer is the best route.

Yes.. Same leak occurring in 2011-2013.. It's a shame

Way to much bureaucracy at Ford for a stupid simple water leak fix....

Hi everyone,

Thank you to those of you who have already reached out to me or Cory with your information. If you are still experiencing this concern and would like a follow-up call from your regional customer service manager, shoot me a PM with your current mileage so I can make that happen.

If you haven't reached out to me before, send me your information in a PM so I can look into your case. I'll need your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.

Lake Pennsylvania

I have the same problem with my 2011 explorer
Had it back for the 4th time this Monday
Don't think that because it doesn't leak with water poured on it it's ok .
try going for a ride then you'll find it
Thought mine was fixed after the third time till I took it for a ride and there she blows.
Why hasn't there been a recall on this problem.
We're not complaining enough I guess tomorrow they will here me
I asked to talk to a factory Rep and they said they had to rehire a service manager first
I called For directly and will let everyone know what the outcome is.
I have to put water wings on my gran kids when we take them out with us.
I'm going to,paint it back and white and call it ORCA
WHEELS

Mine also only leaks when I take it out for a ride after heavy rains. It seems the water collects somewhere and then shifts when the vehicle moves causing the accumulated water to leak. Do you have a sunroof? I have read this might be a possible source of water not draining properly through the drainage hoses and can cause water to drain through the pillar areas. I plan on looking into this.

So, got my truck back yesterday. The service manager said that there was a giant gaping hole in an area surrounding the back hatch. He told me, literally, that the robots who put the truck together must have not squeezed enough sealant there. So apparently, the body shop injected more, then for good measure went around it again with their own clear sealant.

Today and tomorrow will be the test, as we are getting hit hard with weather again.

I should be happy, but i am not. My truck was returned to me with sealant everywhere as well as some mega scratching! The fiance seems to think its from their belt buckles, however some of the scratching is so severe that I do not see how that could be. We are waiting on a call from the dealer.

This is so ridiculous. It is supposed to be a brand new truck. :/

Leak

No I don't have a sunroof
I learned about them a long time ago
I have a 97 f150 with 70,000 on it and still looks good
And guess what no leaks
Frank

Yepp same here got mine back yesterday and they said the same thing. They said they found some holes that were supposed to be sealed and they weren't. It's suppose to rain in NY for the next 2 days so i'll check if it leaks again.

I believe that only one owner has had the leak supposedly traced back to the moonroof. I have a moonroof and so far no leaks. I have also had 3 previous Highlanders with moonroofs and no problems. It seems that the majority of the leaks are due to a poor seal where the roof rails are joined to the roof.

Wheels1950 (welcome to the forum!) & tony89,

I sent you both a reply to the PMs from yesterday; please see your inboxes for the details.

It’s important to me that you’re taken care of, Me&myFord. I made sure you’ll be called by your regional customer service manager by the end of the day today.

airdog007,

Please keep me in the loop as you get hit with the upcoming weather (and stay dry!). :)

Leaky

This post is the same exact post being given today in 2013 as it was in 2011
Can you tell me what has been accomplished or is this just to appease us.
I called direct to customer service and they took my information
It doesn't do anyone any good to hear the same post without an outcome .
You have had 3 years to respond to the questions
We need results not a prepared statement.
(If anyone has had a positive outcome to this problem please let eveyone know)
Thanks FRANK

QUOTE=FordCustSrvc;2812053]Ott23,
I’m happy to help get the leak (
taken care of )WHEN
by sending an escalation to the Customer Service Manager in your region. For me to do this, send me a PM with your dealer information, VIN, approximate mileage, and contact info.

( I’m confident they will lend a hand to fix the problem once and for all.)

Frank,

I can help, but first I’ll need the contact details I mentioned in my reply to your PM. Please send me that information.
