Ok, I've been debating on what to do about wheels and tires. I know I want bigger, and have narrowed it down to this. 33s on a 15x10 rim.....or 35s on a 15x8 rim. My specs are in my signature.

If you are wondering, I have trimmed my fenders accordingly to fit either of these setups.

Go 35s now or you'll want them the next time you see them on an Explorer. 35s on a 15x8 is a killer setup.

35's + 4.10's = not pretty...

35's
but the gears are the real issue.

I agree... The biggest issue with Explorers is the low-slung rear spring hangers (besides no flex in the IFS :D ) so taller tires are the way to go.

I'm running 4.10s right now with 33s -- and it is too low -- wish I had 4.56.

35 w/ 4.10 = 2565 rpm in 3 @ 65. A tad low. Never get it in OD until 80.

35 w/ 4.56 = 2845 = basically back to stock

35 w/ 5.13 = 3201 = perfect for some snort!

I have a 5 speed so it won't be as bad. I ran 32s w/ 3.27s for about 6 months.......and survived.

Come on guys I need some input

Im either going shorter with a wider stance, or taller and keep the same stance.

i vote taller and bigger stance.....

4.10 with 35's is do-able but dont expect to fly off the line hahaha
I have 35's and 4.10's in my BII but the V8 kinda helps make up for the lack of gearing. Just like everyone else with 4.10's I never thought I would go over 33" and I never thought I would need 4.56 and now I wish I would have gone 5.13 hahahaha but 4.10 and 35's are do-able, great on the highway actually just takes a while to get up to speed and you are lacking some low gearing on the trail.

I vote 35's
8" rims work fine

It wouldn't be a stance thing, it would be a look thing. Unless you get 33s that are wider than 12.5". Otherwise the tread is still only 12.5", and also a 12.5" tire on a 10" compared to a 12.5" on an 8" wheel will loose a bead easier when aired down.

I know a 12.50 tire is a 12.50 tire, but a 10" rim makes them appear to be wider. I want the best looks and performance so thats why im trying to get opinions. Which ever has the most votes is what I will do because for some reason, its a hard choice for me.

Oh yeah and thanks for the input guys.....keep em' coming.

Sounds good, that's why I was asking, and also why I mentioned the losing a bead easier with the wider wheel.

I still vote for 35s. :D

this is with a 15x10" rim. I like the stance. I also feel its way more stable off road when fully articualated in a hairy position.

Compared to what?

I use this picture all the time to show the difference. It's not mine, it belongs to -=Daemon=- which is for sale right now too. ;)

The front is a 35x12.5 on an 8" wheel.
The rear is a 35x12.5 on a 10" wheel.

As compared to when i had 8" rims that barely stuck out past the fender. I felt more tippy with the 15x8's i had on for a day. I went back to the same part with the 15x10's on and, due to the wider stance i felt more planted on the ground.

so in your case it sounds like it was more about the backspacing than the width?
