What material is the OEM front bumper for 1999-2001 Explorer??

I beleive 1997 was the last year for a metal bumper. 1998-2001 they were plastic/metal on the XLT and all plastic on the Limited.

Just an FYI: it was in 99 that Ford switched the bumper. One easy way to distinguish between the two are the fog lights: 99+ had round fog lights. 98 and below had rectangular ones.

Yes Plastic cover but a fiberglass bumper also known as a reinforcement.

98 was the year they changed the hatch, bumper, and miscellaneous features. Some early 98s came out looking like 97's though.

My 98 Mountaineer had the plastic cover and behind it was a PLASTIC reinforcement with some sheet metal in it for strength in certain places.

I bought a bumper from ebay and its textured dammit, i should return it. I was looking at the one from bumpers.com and i was wondering if the sport bumper cover would fit. Here is the link to the one i bought.

the link is just like the bumper on my 2000 xlt. texture and all. except mine has chrome around the fog lights.

i think they all fit the same (as far as sport and 4 dr) but if you want one that is smooth look for an eddie bauer or a limited.

Im going to return it, and get the one from bumpers.com. Has anybody put a 2000 xlt bumper on a 95-97, i would like to see what it looks like. Maybe i'll change my mind and keep it.

I called the manufacturer and they said its raw bumper. It has a bunch of bumps on it. Dammit!!
