whats faster, explorer or civic?

Agreed, my son has an Acura Integra that will run circles around my X and that was when it had a non V-tek in it. Now with the new V-tek, skunk cam with adjustable cam sproket, high comp. pistons. new tranny 5 speed with closer gear ratios and super light weight valves and recipicating parts, suspension road racing springs from Germany that lower car 3", custom shocks and even light weight lower control arms, headers with cat-back pipes and after market ignition. And he pulls up along side of me on the Inter state. I just roll down the window and say sorry, can't race you, got a fish bowl on the front seat HA HA.

While he's still asleep sometimes I take it out to get a early morning coffee and I don't go down the interstate. I find the the most windy roads I can find. That thing will take roads that even Angles fear to tread. Lots of fun to drive. But again, I'll take my X and he can have his Integra, even though it was mine at first and I gave it to him for a graduation present. It's an apple to oranges thing.

Um yeah ok...its v-tec..Tell me your kidding right? I wouldnt give you the time of day with a conversation lke that..lol

you can have a 500 hp mustang and a 500hp honda, both short ratio 5 speed's and good traction, Hands down the mustang isnt going to win..power to weigh.. this is turning into a really funny thread..

your kidding right. I know how it drove stock and since I am the one that built the vtek all I can tell you is that its much faster and really handles well. Agreed if both cars have the same HP but one weighs more, the light one will win.

Lets see i guess you would use all heavy recipicating parts, non vtec, no headers or better ingnition, use a wide ratio trans. LOL umm sounds like you need a whole lot to learn.

I am going to have to say not neccessarily for several reasons.

But first to revisit Husky's comment. "There is no replacement for displacement." If your 4 banger makes 500 hp that means it's likely got what 350 torque maybe a bit more?
Now if a 302 or better yet 347 stroker were making 500 hp it would be puting down 500 to 600 torque. That right there eliminates your concept of weight to power, as the v8 has a lot more power.

Secondly half of a ricers wet dream is fiberglass and carbon fiber weight reduction. A stock civic ways in a bit under 3k. A Stock fox mustang ways in ariound 3400. You keep mentioning weight, but what you don't realize is that I too am able to replace my entire body with fiber, replace the entire chassis with tube, and can easily slide this car in weighing close to the same as a riced civic with the same work done.

In short you will spend 15K getting the Honda to do what a Mustang can do with 5k. Or you can spend 5k on performance for the Acura and have your ass handed to you by a stock '05 Mustang. Or for that matter a '90 mustang with a fresh rebuild on the engine and of course new heads since they like to warp. My neighbor is pretty focused on his "street racer" (Honda Civic )and currently has it running around 300 HP wise without the juice (saw the Dyno chart). All things considered he has had his ass handed to him by several Mustangs around town. Now untill this year I haven't seen Ford put out a 300 hp GT. In fact most are quite a bit under that yet they whip him....
No replacement for Torque!!

Now I have to qualify this by saying you could drop a big block chevy or such in a Honda and make it go faster, like the record you referenced, but then it's not a Honda doing the work is it.............

Dreamr Dreamr Dreamr..what are we gonna do with you..lol

honda's crx's and hatch weigh about 2000-2300 pounds, your fox body weigh about 3700 lbs and if you have a shelby mustang go ahead and add 300+ pounds due to its iron block, larger DOHC heads, 6 (vs) 5 speed tranny, supercharger/intercooler, larger brakes, larger wheels and tires, etc. total of 4,000 pound and about 400hp... doesnt sound that impressive, and who knows were you came up with the price of 15k into honda's, more like 5k

once your 500ft -lbs of torque run out i hope you have that Top-end to keep up with that Honda..

Hows the SAS comming?

my goodness :) back and forth back and forth. I dont even thing gear ratio's have been mentioned? or tire types?
hahaha both play a big role in racing :)

Also is this a straight line race?

sounds like the classic ricer denial right there :D :p :mattmoon:

If you had read on the last page, I built a civic hatch 2 years ago, and ran low 11's in the 1/4 mile, 1.930 0-60ft, theres nothing about Denial, im just simply stating for less money you can built a faster reliable car, other than a "v8"

I'd take the V8 Fox body ANY DAY
I can always turbo my V8, add nitrous, etc in the end this is true:

There is no replacement for displacement

Now sure there is a Civic out there that can wipe up 90% of the Mustangs on the road, but guess what somewhere there is a Stang no Civic can touch :)

I used to smoke fixed up rice in my stock 352, 3 speed cruisomatic mothership.

im gonna call bs.....if you had a honda running 11's and only spent 5 grand then you either stole half of it or somebody reeeeeaaally liked you at the parts shop.i have had several hondas and if you had everything you claim to have done to one that is well over 5k. hell it took me more than that just to run 13's. if anyone can find somebody that spent the same amount on a mustang and a civic, and the civic outran it....i think i may just have to kiss someone's ass

wow that things huge, could fit a civic in the trunk!

Its so funny how many ricers have been surprised by a certain BII on 35's.

Very true. And like I said before you can't make an I4 sound good :D I find it hilarious someone is so pro-Civic on this site. Hondas make me laugh. Honda enthusiasts make me ROFL.

you can do alot with 5k if you know the right people..5k for 13's thats pretty sad

You seem to talk a lot. What work did you do for $5k that got your Civic into 11's?

I have spent well over $5k and I doubt I am even in the 13's hahaha
Heck I spent $3K something last month!

But I can park on your hood :)

now let the pissing contest continue......who cares?
post up mods and time slips, otherwise its just chit chat anyways :)

Also dont forget a 11 second car at sea level may be a 14 second car at altitude, so its ALL RELATIVE

My truck can do 10's, if I took 5000lbs out of the body, frame, seats and gutted it completely and also had it going down a 90 degree hill with a 200mph wind forcing it down....MAYBE get into the 10's right now im lucky if it doesnt take me 5mins to just get to 60mph and not have it vibrate.

Motor was a k20a2 with a k20a transmission with LSD, Bottom end was all forged 9:3.1 compression, head was crower stage 3 head package, port polished, milled, custom Garret T-3 turbo non Hybrid, trim size AR43/AR60,MBC,fmic, tuned with Hondata, then TurboEdit,

Would you like the know what Internals were used also?
