01 sport - 4.0 SOHC STS turbo charged (Project complete)

I have an idea on how to get to 14.99. Guess we will have to wait and see if my idea works:)

I think nitrous is the only way in this short of time. Unless you can put together a force feed system really quick or throw a built motor in it.

You seriously think I need a built motor or forced induction to run 14's? I am confident I can run that without getting into the engine. I will not use nitrous, supercharger or turbo anytime soon. All it will need is a little tuneup and an extra coat of wax:D I will run 14's one way or another.

The only explorer I know of that dipped into the 14's stock was James’s explorer. Mine might of been close but the reason I don't think you can manage it is because of the weight. You could tune it up, take out the entire interior, and anything else weighing you down and you may be close. You could prove me wrong.

I'm not to fond of either option, the 18's are to short at only 27" tall, and the 17's are a little short but would be ok, they're just to narrow. They would be fine up front, but your going to want something a little wider in the back.

edit: if you contact the seller, they're usually willing to put a different size, or even brand of tire on.

Yeah, I'll be lucky to get a 14.5 the first round. For some reason I thought you had ran a low 12 in the 1/4.

Anyways, I'll probably be coughing up 100 bucks but that's okay cuss it gives me something to shoot for.

Sure, I still have days I wish I could run 13 teens (everyone has bad days). This tranny swap has been my biggest thorn in the side. It was a necessary evil but the bugs aren't completely ironed out, yet! Don't worry about the times, really that isn't the point. The point is go & have fun. Oh yeah get vids! Good luck-j

I would stick with a 16" OEM wheel and a wide tire. The larger wheels get HEAVY. Light ones are expensive.

Yes, the 18's look better in my opinion but the weight will play against me. This is one reason I haven't upgraded the wheels and tires; because I'm indecisive on what I want.

I wish there was something I could do to help but I know tranny tuning is an art. There's just so many variables that change daily. I tried writing my own tranny tune from scratch and could never get it perfect. I finally went back to stock and modified to get what I wanted. I think that took a few months before I was happy.

I'm still playing with timing and things and just recently figured out why, when renormalized the BK, I didn't idle right anymore. The load value down low was right at the load I idle at. When the PCM went to the next line (back and forth) the result was Idle surge. SO, I learned to make all the timing the same on the bottom two lines at 1000 RPMS or less.

My 20's I have are no heavier than my stock 16's. I think the 20's may be a 1/2lb lighter. I am going to search to find you some better choices. I think you need 18x9 for the front and 18x10's for the rear. Then you can carve some corners with Vettes:D

Try to find wheels with 25mm of offset, that being for an 8" wide wheel. A 9" wide wheel would be better to have less offset, like 20mm. Those figures will put you within 1/4" or so of just right in the 2nd gen. Explorer.

The date is set - Next Friday I'll be meeting up with a few buds at the track. Unless it rains are something unexpected happens I'll have some track numbers.

I'm hoping for 13's for the first set of runs.

Good luck! Same goes for me. Thinking about going out next week to see if I can get closer to 14's. Just hope the weather holds out.

Say Jake, check out this road race Ranger, it has wheels like you are interested in. I like them on there, I was interested in the guy's rear brakes.

Those are FR500's. Would look good on a sport:) Below is a photochop I did of some chrome FR500's on my Ex a year or so ago. I also removed the badging, roof rack and rear exhaust tip.

I wouldn't think the rear brakes would be to hard to setup since we share the same rear axle. But without the very custom front brakes to match it's kind of pointless for most of us.

I've purchased the FR500's. 10's for the rear and 9's for the front. They're 18"s in silver. Looking for good tires now....
