that just gave me even more reason to put a high volume pump in when i do my swap....truck has oil pressure, but who knows if it might cough it out a week later.
For a street engine I do not recommend a high volume pump. I understand your reasoning, however they work better for engines which will be dis assembled frequently. I would have used one also, before I was told most engine builders who warranty their work will require a stock factory pump, as high volume pumps tend to cause seals to leak sooner due to the added pressure.

so... now, I've swapped over the airbag control unit... the code 36 doesn't flash anymore, I'm now getting a 44 instead... I might have to put the side impact sensors in after all... any other suggestions?

So, today, I took an hour and installed 2 side impact sensors, one each side by the seatbelts. I plugged them into the harness, removing the black plastic blanking plugs that were on the 99 harness.
And ta-da
Airbag light is no more...
So, the whole wiring inside the truck now, including the airbag computer is from the 2000 Limited with the SOHC engine.
The guy that came to read the codes suggested I might have a vacuum leak which is why I have a high idle.
So, I'm just waiting on a new steering pump and then I can go for my mechanical safety, well, once I've passed the body safety.

Why is the battery light on?
Im going outside to check, but I dont think it should be on, like ever.
Going out for a smoke and checking on my stock 98.

I take it back.
It is on.
I just thought it was running because of the oil psi but if I remember correctly, that not working just yet.

I just turned the ignition for the picture, but didn't have the engine running, because the battery is on charge.. the beauty about having a lifted truck (BL) is that I can put the battery charger on top of the engine, and still close the hood!
That's why the engine light is on, and the door ajar light, but I'm happy to report that al the warning lights go out when they should.
I also put the limited front door speakers in place of the standard rear speakers, gives a slightly bassier sound.

Well, I phoned the guy about my safety today and he's in the states, so he probably can't do it till next week, so I phoned the guy about installing my windshield... he's just this minute left... so now I have a lovely shiny new windshield, thanks to Sarah who bought me the glass!!

Nevermind, I might steal his headlights (the ones he got from Sean).

Si, I do have the "other style". I never much cared for the look of the halos so disconnected them long ago. I sort of messed up the initial install and while the lights work just fine, the assembly itself itself isn't perfect (I broke some of the aligning pieces that hold the unit steady). No real impact on the lights in any way, but I've been thinking of getting a new set for a while. I like the chrome ones too (with the EB front grille shell).
I'd go black if the price was right and the condition was like new. I'm headed to Wisconsin at Christmas most likely (inlaws) so might get a set of the chrome ones (your style) shipped there. Most eBay sellers have free shipping in the US. Of course they charge about $60 to ship to Canada. Most use UPS which attracts those horrible UPS brokerage fees too.
