-Deathrow Update Log-

Okay, new battery in, cranked right up, sounded better too, but didn't run it very long due to being late and incredibly loud temporarily. I'll try in the morning and see if she shuts off again, but so far good. Weirdly enough, that old battery went down to 9 volts last I saw, left it connected to the truck, and right before swapping the battery I checked it on the ground and it had 12 volts again, that battery is so wack...but hopefully she'll crank up in the morning without a jumper! Also just updated the tuner, so hopefully that will connect properly now and I can mess with things!

Okay, figured some stuff out, got my driver side lock working again, least for now, seems like that rod pops off the lock cylinder without a crazy amount of effort sometimes, but it's on. Also, passenger window fixed, so I'm guessing this happened way back when I had the truck painted, but apparently, they disconnected something down here in the door, and then hooked it back up THROUGH the window track, so it would come down, and hit it, stopping the window from going down thanks to tugging on cables. So I looped it back around and it goes all the way down again! Least some things worked out today! Tried to replace the IAC for the idle and no luck, still the same, but I did throw her through first and reverse a smidge, wobbled back and forth some. But once she gets to about 120-130°F, she can't idle, right before that she'll finally get to about 700, but then start that surging, trying to die going 400-700-400-700, before just dying. And once that starts, she won't idle at all till cooling back off, as soon as it cranks, goes WAY up to 2000rpms, the slowly works passed that 1500rpm stall (still assuming it's a vacuum leak for that, probably all of it), before falling and just dying. Time for a smoke leak finder or making my own lol

Huh thats odd usually vac leaks are worst when cold, but idk

Yeah, that's what's throwing me off, especially since I can't find any hoses disconnected, has to be leaky somewhere...

Ive had a biased MAF sensor do that, along with a misadjusted idle screw.
The idle screw I believe is fine but I could mess with it. Not impossible on the maf, not sure I ever replaced mine, so it may be oem. Appreciate the suggestion!

Took the maf off, looked pretty clean, may have replaced it at some point. But I also tried unplugging it while it ran and it definitely made a difference, so not sure that was it either sadly.

Okay, well, new fun: got the tranny line adapters for the radiator in and cool, they fit on the lines!...but they don't fit into the radiator. They're slightly too big to go in, so now I either have to re-tap that radiator, or put an adapter on an adapter which is a "fun" choice, but may run it till I can figure something out.

There are other options than dumping 400 degree heat into the radiator...

Just sayin... ;)

That a better tranny cooler I'm looking at?
Yes. Never touches the radiator. I use the trans Ports on the radiator for fan control temp sensor and temp gage

I've got one on the front too, but yes, I definitely need to and PLAN to upgrade it later! Almost did during all this, but decided to hold off for funding sake. Speaking of....mind sending me the link the for one you used?

Thanm you! Did you still keep it run through both, or just the cooler?
Just the cooler. Ran AN6 braided stainless lines to the trans.
The fan rarely comes on during regular street driving. Runs a fair bit on the trails in the summer.

Sweet! Thank you! Would love me some braided stainless! Especially brake lines! Good to know, probably better than me trying to make a 40k fit like I planned for the rado! Lmao

Well, thanks to an 01 sport at the junkyard, found a set of adapters that work! So lines are hooked in! Funny enough, some of the others I grabbed to try, I think are the same as the ones i bought, last picture showing the old vs the brand new one.

Excellent, got it done in the end.

I've seen that fitting before on some cars, but who knows how the connections change. Congrats on finding that solution.

Oh, trust me, that may not be the only thing I fixed I think...! I'll have an update later for sure

Keep going is the goal. I have to fix the pinion bearings in my work Explorer this weekend etc. I don't have a way to rebuild the rear, so I'll be swapping the rear from my Mounty, and the diff's between them. I have a Torsen in my Mounty which has been great for my needs. I don't want to let that go with my current 98 Explorer when I sell it. So I'll be swapping a lot of parts around, the whole rear is the beast part. I should be plenty tired when I finish, and I hope I don't find anything else amiss.
Night,
