stop whining? do you have Any idea how cold is it outside?

Either way.. still waiting on the part..

(Now that I think about it, the driver's side has never had any work done, only the passenger side)

yea, you mentioned the temp a few posts back :)

p.s. i was joking.. go buy a space heater or 2, and warm the garage up first

I know you were jokin, I'll be getting a space heater... if it doesn't heat the garage..(it's pretty big) it'll at least give me a warm work-space..

.... I hate you so much... -_-''

Lets see now... currently it's -18... this is nothing though.. forecast for later in the week says -40 at the lowest....

Got the part, got the tools... I couldn't her to fire [batt died] .. even trying to jump it.. it wouldn't fire... it would turn over though... I just plugged it in.. so I'll try again in a couple hours.

Any tips/suggestions for me? About any of this?

Wait til Spring for it to warm up.

In the meantime get around on one of these...

Did I mention its really cold here today. Its about 56 out right now. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

I second the dog sled solution !

Ya know... I've Never been on a dog sled... o.o

I wonder when the race is this year.... hmm..

Well, it's been a few hours... lets see if she'll fire up.. I hope the wheel isn't like... frozen in place or something... it's gonna be a ***** to get into the garage then.. lol..

Okay, we have a problem here.... one of the bolts holding the hub assembly on.... well.. the end of the cv axle pretty much cut half of it away....

So I'm sitting here looking at half a bolt.... I'm not talking about the top of the bolt either... I'm talking about the head of the bolt, half of it is gone....

pics?

can you weld something to it, or use a crescent wrench?

Weld isn't an option, I don't have any welding things and I have no idea how to.

The bolt is kinda stripped, so the cresent wrench won't work.

Two ways. First, use an angle grinder to completely remove the head. The bolt is only threaded into the hub assembly, so if the head is off and the other bolts are out, you can pull the hub out.

If you don't have a grinder, get an easy out or bolt out and remove it that way.

How does bolt-out work? Cuz I just looked it up, and sears has it.. I'll be going to get it..

Would any cordless drill be powerful enough to do this with the bolt out? I don't have any air-tools as I've read that I need??

a good 1/2" drive corded drill works well... I've drilled a lot of parts with one of them.

cordless? possibly an 18v... maybe, maybe not.

and unfortunately, if it's either of the lower 2 bolts, it will most likely require pulling the cv-shaft for ample access.

You should be able to turn it with a ratchet. If it will chuck onto an air tool, it will chuck onto a ratchet.
You just need to keep downward force on it so it doesn't skip off.

another idea... how 'bout trying to beat a smaller-sized socket onto it?

I've done that before too, albeit with rounded heads and not half-missing heads on bolts, but I have had luck with that.

although it could very well turn that socket into a paperweight afterwards.
