Intro and help me!

Hey guys new here i’m luna and got a 1987 B2000 he’s an old man but Im tryna keep it alive. Recently I changed the clutch and flywheel but also the starter since it had given out. But i have a problem w the starter I got it from autozone and it says it’s for my truck year but it bangs against the flywheel any help w what other starter year is could use to solve this issue Im coming back from autozone w another starter as i type this. Please any help is welcome. I have plans for this lil truck and will post as I go along gonna be saving up to redo the front suspension soon

It's quite possible it was package wrong and you got a starter for a B2200 or B2600.

Did you keep your original starter to compare with?

If you turned it in as a core see if they still have it at the store to compare with

Could also be a starter for an automatic?

I’ve replaced it 3 times now it grinds against my flywheel the last one was alll banged up inside

Not that I saw on the first one. Maybe, are they different? i got mine at autozone but if anyone has a different site i could use I wouldn’t mind switching it again.

Thanks! got a couple things I wanna do to it! Gonna be working construction for about a year straight saving up to really put money into it.
I didn’t keep the starter I took it in for the core. They might not have it but I can call and ask I seriously doubt it though. The starters looked the same so i’m not sure.

Will engine rotate using a socket on crankshaft bolt? Turn clockwise

Check the starter at another auto parts store to see if it looks different than what Autozone has been giving you. They might have the wrong part number in their system for your vehicle.

I just checked Ebay and they have some for sale and show photos that you could use to compare to yours.

One of the listings says "clockwise" which makes me think they may have had a counterclockwise version as well. Not sure what the deal is with that.
