Jakee's 4.0 SOHC Build up discussion and motivation thread

With all the money in bolt ons, have you ever considered to go turbo? STS? I plan on doing this for xmas and it seems like the only way to go with these motors to get some real power out of them. Dont get me wrong, I love my 4.0 SOHC but its not like you can mod it like a 5.0 or 4.6 v8

Yes - See what I want to do is get the MOST out of it N/A. THEN, I can go force feed. That away, I didn't miss anything. IF I just went force feed tomorrow, I'd probably miss a bunch of little things that could of let me to a better set-up. That's just my way of thinking.

And yes, I'm leaning towards the STS set-up. I've been researching the heck out of it and think that's the best option for me.

I know, that if I went the M-90 route, I'd be wishing I went turbo. Reason why? Have you seen what the rangers are running with an M-90? It's really not very impressive to me. AND, Doug, from bama chips did a thread called "Why I don't premote the use of an M-90" at the ranger forum. That being said, and with the goals that I strive for, I think the turbo will get me where I want, and sound pretty dad gum cool from the rear.

But, that's aways away. I need to finish the N/A goal and prove that I'm not just all show.

I could of had a freaken E-Fan right now if morons wouldn't of hacked my freaking account!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just on thing to remember, the more efficient your combination is n/a'd the more power you will make blown. Jakee and I have talked several times and I believe he is on a good track. I am anxious to see what is going to come of this. The SOHC v-6 is an excellent performer as I have seen several put excellent times on the board na'd. I will tell you this motor vs a stock 5.0L would be real close (all things being equal, weight, aerodynamics, etc) if not a slight margin of victory for the six shooter. Not putting down the 5.0L nothing but respect but I have owned 7 mustangs(5.0L) and this motor (v-6 SOHC) never seems to stop amazing me. And yes Jakee the truck does have an excellent sound with the turbo in the rear. You will have a opportunity to ride and possibly drive it when in Alabama on your visit.-James;)

I will get some video of this driving down the street and post up!

I am thinking remote mount turbo 5.0L :)
I may miss some steps and cut the life of my 5.0L in half, but well it might just be worth it and I have no issue dropping in another el cheapo stock short block :)

I am interested in hearing yours because you have a muffler. I have have an open exhaust, so mine sounds kinda like a diesel truck exhaust

Jakee, whats your reason for these parts.

Thanks ...

JBA - Wires; This was the first MOD I ever did to the truck just cuss it was time for a tune up and got them for a good price. I did notice a difference after installing BUT IT WAS PROBABLY cuss I just needed new ones. The ONLY complaint I have with them is that ONE wire was not all the way crimped. That one wire caused the truck to run like CRAP and I thought I lost a lot. After back tracking the entire set-up (Making sure I had them on the right spots) I noticed the wire came off to easy on the second cylinder. I re-crimped and the problem went away.

Plugs - Just cuss It was time for a tune up and wanted to try them out.

Both are good in my eyes. I believe the Plugs take the "I want to index my plugs" out cuss of the way they are. Not sure If I can use them the entire time but for the N/A goal it's good.

Talking about remote mounts, I had an idea.

If you were to make a custom box, (In the cargo area of the X) you could run the filter tubing thru the floor. From there you could get a good side scoop, or even a scoop up top by your rear spoiler, for the intake are. This should solve all the problems of getting water in for U 4X4 guys. Just a thought. Maybe take that idea and make it better.

James, the comparison you make is apples to oranges. While the V-6 is a very capable performer those extra 2 cylinders and the extra cubes of the 8's are something that will not be surpassed mod for mod; power for power. In stock configuration a 5.0 V8 from an Explorer makes more power and torque both at peak and also, much more importantly, through the powerband. Though the V6 isn't exactly blown away by the 5.0 V8 the bigger engine does make more power. In similarly configured vehicles (4 door 2wd vs. 4 door 2wd) the V6 will be edged out by the V8.

I also have a feeling that some people were referring to an SOHC V6 in a Sport model Explorer compared to a full-size 4 door Explorer in the past. Still another apples to oranges scenario. Though they both go by the name Explorer, one has a roughly 600 pound weight advantage depending on the configuration. Not exactly an even playing field.

I don't mean to appear like I am trying to trod on anyones support for the V6's. I do hope there would be a little more scientific comparisons being made though besides watching one video of two Explorers race and taking it for golden fact.

I just want a fast X.

fast compared to what? that is the question Jakee

Apples to apples spindle. Compared to other X's.

Troll ran 11.65
Rocket ran a 13.XX Something and is soon to run something better?
JAH runs 8.40's which translates to around a 13.5 (I think)

There are other X'S In here I would LOVE To see run at the track. Here's a few;

JTsmith! Take that thing to the track man!
Justin! Take that thing to the track!

Who am I missing?

Bottom line is; If you just want to go fast and don't want a big challenge then buy a mustang. Don't get me wrong there cool. I would love to have one. However, everyone takes that route. What's cool about that?

JUST MY OPINION.

5.0, 4.6, 4.0 Explorers. Doesn't matter to me. I beleive if you're running 13's with an explorer then you're doing something.

10's with an X? Good lord, now that's something cool!

Lol, I love how you always push the buttons, but I have the same thought...compared to what?

My explorer with intake, efan, exhaust and tuning I find is faster than other suvs on the road but not faster than say mustangs, WRX's, turbo civics ect. I may have beaten v6 mustangs and what not but I still dont consider myself fast; however, I consider my truck "fast" for an SUV. I wont put myself in the fast margin until I get a turbo setup. My feeling on 4.0 motors is you wont be "fast" until you are blown. Agreed that you will only get as much power as the basic mods you have but after all the money in basic mods you still arent "fast"

Bottom line for me, yeah ill mess with people on the road but until im blown you wont see me at the track eggin people on because I think im fast. I believe if you have a v6 or v8 motor that is turbocharged or super charged you have something to brag about because mostly around here its all the ricers that are "blowin off" down the road

JTsmith! Take that thing to the track man!

Man, I have a lot of work to do before I beat on it like that.
I have serious engine mods, if I ping an aluminum piston hard just once--it is all over.
Been there-done that-- Not to mention pulling and reinstalling this engine is hard on the back. This is the second build on this engine. 1 new piston and thurough rebuild was 1800. Major setback.

I do believe I have it running good enough now for a dyno tune,or at least dyno data, and have an AWD dyno (100 hr) located 2 hours from me. My priority is to get thru Christmas --then I will be at it hard.

I really hope you dont think I'm braggin about my slow a$$ X. Goodness, heck no!

Yeah, don't blow it up and I know about the christmas thing.

LOL
No no, I wasnt saying that. I was just stating my opinions. I have got comments that my truck is fast for an SUV but I dont consider it fast. Now if I had a turbo setup, then I would have a different mindset

You all are right. Fast is a VERY relative term. Even though I have ran 13's in my X I still considered it to be slow, or at least "not fast enough".

My bad. Good luck with the turbo set-up. Talk with JAH, he'll help you out.

Got my money back!!!!!!!

I'll tell you, it was a fight.

The conclusion is; epassporte.com is NOT a business. THEY ARE A SCAM ORGANIZATION. There located in Curaco and there phone number is unpublished, possible a cell phone. They answer the phone just like a business but are a bunch of liars. I caught them in MANY lies. They just back peddle and change the subject. I would love to be in the same room with these guys. I would go primitive and bust some noses.

Be warned, change you're password often. Don't do business with ANYONE that doesn't have PayPal. Check the company out CAREFULLY before you give them your card number.
