Jakee's 4.0 SOHC Build up discussion and motivation thread

take the money that you will be squandering on headers and a coil.
Than buy an SCT flasher.and a ported TB from todd z.
The headers on your engine will get you next to nothing, same with the coil.

Headers - Where are you getting your data from? If it's on this forum and it had to do with Doug, you might want to go look at both charts just one more time. Look at the torque that was made by the headers. That and I pretty sure that Aldive's vehicle at the time had an electric fan! Ya can't comparte apples to oranges. Headers will get you something if you have supporting mods, and a tune that will 'bring them to life'. Yeah, just bolting them on there is a pain, but it's what's going to get my the goal I set out for a few months back. That and going the extra mile.

ToddZ is ripping you guys off plain and simple. Anyone can port a TB like he's doing. I've done and I've told everyone here that the only difference (Performance wize) between a 4.6 TB and a ported stock one was that the 4.6 already had most of the 'meat' out of it. The bore where the Butterfly is IS EXACTLY the same. I've had the both of them, and I know how to measure it.

So, if you want to spend over a 100 bucks for a TB that can be done for 20 then be my guest.

Spindle - Notice I posted a vid of the time's I'm claiming from 0-60. Notice that I said I'm now running 7.2 You'll get that proof.

Remember when you didn't think I could spin a tire? What did I post? I proved it right? What do you have to say about that? Now, I've proved the 0-60 times. (Yes, I'm still slow and know it)

Point being...Spindle - Quit while you're ahead. Not everyone is a BS'r

That is your method, which we have seen.
Not bad.

I am actually looking forward to seeing the results of Jakee's ideas.

If what you say is true, it will be shown. I trust Jakee will be honest.

I expect him to get good results--but I'm an optimist

After ALL this N/A goal, I'll have to post the dyno sheet in order to say it's good. THEN, I'll have a baseline sheet for the next stage. (Forced feed)

Jakee, I had JBAs on my 01 trac, they do nothing for this engine, the OEMs are just fine.
As far as the TB that Todd sells, its been bench flow tested and Dynoed, it flows 25 CFM more than OEM and is good for 8/10 H.P.
The inner diameter of the TB has no bearing on anything as the plenum opening is 60mm.
I have used a 4.6 on my engine, all it got me was a bad Idle and screwed up my cruise control.
You see jakee, people have achieved your goal before you, you just do not listen, it can be done, go for it.
I honestly think you will never achieve it, your stopwatch 0/60 times mean nothing, is far to much room for error.
Lets also address some issues you have with me.
Your the one that started this thread, months ago, you have never posted any results to prove any gains, other than your impressions and percieved factiods, and your hand held stopwatch trials.
At one time you started PMing asking questions about how I achieved MY goal.
I told you everything I had done,Than YOU created a challange,Not me man.
Thats fine, Challange away, but you need to prove what you have done, and it has to be done scientificaly (DYNO)
I put no value on the fact that you can smoke your tires, so can I, but i don't. is hard on the drivetrain and serves no purpose (nor proves anything).
You PMed me a month ago asking if we can get along,I told you I had no ***** with you, just get er done.
I feel i have been up front with you on your thread, but it's deeds not words man.
I have never said anything off color about you, but you call me a drug user.
get your goal achieved Jackee, post your mods, and your results.
Hopefully we can all learn from your achievments.

Now you're talking my kind of talk. This is what I've wanted to hear from you for ALONG time now. You have you're opinions and you have every right to speak them. However, if you want to be heard, and listened to, you might want to word your advice just a little different. People will take you wrong and jump to the defensive straight of that bat.

The first PM I ever sent you was asking if you had problem with water getting in you're intake thru the fog light openings.

FACT - I DON'T REMEMBER ASKING YOU HOW TO MAKE 210 TO THE REAR WHEELS? You automatically came out of PM land and said I would do everything you told me? Huh? You told me, get a TB, MAF, MAC Intake, E-FAN, ect...Things that everyone knows. So don't make it sound like you've gave me any good advice. I will admit that I got the 'half shafted TB' idea from you, and the fog light trick was you'rs as well. I'll give credit where credit is due.

A 4.6 TB will work if you adjust the cruise control on it. You said the 4.6 TB you had never worked for you so you sent it back or sold it? If you had Idle problems, you either had a leak or you didn't re-set the computer. Anyways...

People have achieved over 210 to the wheels? Prove it with a chart that's not skewed.

Stop watch 0-60 will tell me when I'm ready to go to the next level. That WILL be soon. I said it from the beginning that I didn't think it was the most accurate way of doing something However, I do know I'm within a few tenth's of the actual numbers my truck runs right now. Remember this post right here. Now when I post the track times I'll prove it. You said I would never get in the 6's with my truck and buddy, I'm close and have a ways to go yet with mods.

Yes, everyone and there momma has done what I've done BUT have they done it all? Nope, until I see proof. No one has ever went the distance with a 4.0 SOHC N/a that I know of. Either they skip to force feed, or they simply give up. I will not give up, can't and won't until this N/A goal is done, and it will be done. THEN, and only then, I'll proceed even further.

I PM'd u last because I honestly think it's dumb to get in it with someone I don't know over the internet. I wanted to make peace with you and that offer still stands. Yes, you piss me off every other post but I think you know why you do. Because of the negativity, smart a$$ comments and putting others down. I won't stand for it, never have, never will. Now, if you keep talking sensible like this last post, I have no problem with you at ALL.

YOU HAVE TO SHOW RESPECT, IN ORDER TO GET RESPECT! But, don't respect anyone that doesn't respect you. That's how I live.

Now, I hope this is over. If not I would suggest you and I talk on the phone so we know who we're talking to in here.

Just finish jakees buildup , than we can all move on

Just have a question about air intakes. As a temporary mod for now does any one know if cutting the bottom off the air box will help with HP? I have a drop in K&N in my X now. Just wondering about that.

It will help a little but the best thing would be to get a Cone filter and MAF adapter. Search ebay for the adapter (5.00$), and pick you're filter.

So can we get a spark notes version of this thread

What mods do you have and what is your hp rating

Doug at Bamachips can get you to 200 at the wheels STOCK with his 93 dyno tune. He has gotten to 197ish with mail order tunes.

This is currenly what I've done, and only the things that I feel helped. There are a million and one "little" things you can do however if you're just going N/A for a street car you're making a lot of work for your self for a little gain. I won't mention the time I've wasted on this project.

4.6 TB
MAC Intake
C&L MAF 73MM
Both fog lights removed and replaced with 3" tubing to a custom made "Cold air box"
Gibson Cat back
Currently working on the front part of the exhaust
JBA Wires
Borsh II Plugs
Intake mouth was ported
EGR TUBE blocking Intake mouth removed.
Syn in the rear
Serious Weight reduction

No numbers, just a inaccurate 0-60 time of 7.2 but willing to bet I'm close as heck to that. IMO, that puts me at mid 15's with the below left;

E-FAN
Crank Pulley
Headers
Coil
Tune from JAH with the STS turbo.

More weight reduction and clean up the truck. (looks)

I believe STRONGLY that I will be in the 14's with one more mod. I believe it will be very close to 210 at the wheels. If not, I'll have to freshen up the engine, but that's fine. Again, once the numbers are proven, I'll have a baseline for an STS turbo set-up. I DO beleive a baseline for the Turbo would be good. I didn't agree a baseline for the N/A would do anything cuss of how many people have already done that. I will dyno only when I'm done but I may have some track times pretty soon.

Doug is good BUT I need someone that I can talk to. James (JAH with the sts turbo) is who I've picked for this. He's showed me very good customer support and I like the way he treats your project like his own.

good luck its a goal. but were is the actual build? bolt on's are not really a build a build would involve internal work in my mind.

there is a company thats completely pushed the limits of that motor with success.

Conig - Thank you much. I know Tom @ supersixmotor sports, in fact he's the one that gave me the exhaust plan.

Spindle, I think you are completely wrong about the headers. I think you are too busy racing dyno's and focusing on the irrelevent. Give the guy a break he's not trying to say he's the best or will be. Yeah we may all learn something. If so, it will be beneficial to all of us. People said the Wright Bros wouldn't ever be able to fly, guess what? Planes fly everyday! I post up timeslips and video to back up my claims! I think he is on the right track. JBA has dynoed a hell of a lot more headers than any of us will and they are continuously posting hp gains with just thier headers. If the headers are a waste of money then so is a catback exhaust. You are only going to see about 5-(maybe)10hp,and what about the cold air kit, probably will post roughly 8-10 hp. Do you see where I am going? There is no miracle pill here just scrounging for every little hp available. Just to note, race teams spend hundreds of thousands of dollars searching for .001 in victory, what does this mean? Not that you won by .001 but it means first or second place. It is all in the name of air in+air out+correct fueling=increased torque and power. Oh well what do I know I only run 9.60's in the 1/8th n/a'd and a 8.53 blown.
