I have that list but it does not answer my questions.

The list answers the first question, yes you need a fullsize spare, its required.

The second question is no, you dont need a high lift. If youy get rock sliders then you could use one, but a small bottle jack and a support base will be fine.

Gjarrett I am bringing the wife only. Her cousing wanted to come but has some things he and his wife can't get out of so its just me and the wife. In laws are watching the three kido's.

Jefe I was actually wanting to run Golden Spike and Poison Spider Mesa either saturday or sunday. So I'd be in for a run to it. I was waiting to see what rick was going to throw up. I would also like to try Moab Rim and Elephant Hill if possible.

Everything is still based on readiness of Explorer unless my wife and I hitch-hike all of these trails, but I am definately up for a run on Elephant Hill. I have been over it twice (once was backwards and in the dark like the popular moab t-shirt says, but I learned my lesson). My wife has never been to Moab at all, so that is one that I would like to show her. Perhaps on Sunday. My Explorer isn't big enough for Moab Rim or Golden Spike and Poison Spider Mesa, but I really like those trails, maybe we could get a ride for those trails. I would take the Powerstroke, but even if my wife would let me (hell would freeze first), it would still be 22 feet long, a little too much for the tight turns, but man, that granny gear would be great.

I'm stoked! I just got a smokin' deal on a sport trac gas tank skid plate that I'll have to put on this weekend ($25 plus shipping... the guy totally hooked me up!).

I won't be locked this trip as I had wanted so I'll have to hope my L/S still engages (playing on and off the snow seems to confirm it is), but at least I'll have some armor... which I KNOW is on the recommended trail items list for Moab trips .

Anyone open for fins and things? (I know it's my weekly question?! ) I don't have the lift for Strike Ravine yet.

I like Fins & Things and also don't have enough lift for some of the other trails. They are doing Strike Ravine on Friday, right? So if you are suggesting Fins & Things for Friday, sorry, I wont be there until Saturday. If you want to do it Saturday, I might be interested.

I haven't heard any official list of trails to be run. Are we all just playing it by ear? I know that you usually don't know for sure until you are in the City Market parking lot the morning of. I'm fine either way, I'm just wondering.

Dignan, it doesn't matter to me... I really just want to run fins & things this trip to Moab. I'll just need someone who has done it to lead. I think they did it in a pre-run on Thurs or Fri last year (if memory serves... ) and I don't know if or when a trail list comes out; if it'll be on there.

I was planning on coming in on Thurs but if no moderate trails are being run on Fri, I might just come in on Fri evening . Is anyone else planning on running any trails on Fri besides BFE and Strike Ravine, that 'moderate' Exs can wheel?

Well, I did enjoy Fins and Things, it is a great place to experience Moab's incredible traction. With steep incline after steep incline, it is a lot of fun. ATVs are allowed in that area too, maybe I'll take the four wheelers. That is also a good area, because there is a groomed dirt road running right through the middle of the trail, so if there is a section you don't want to try, you can skip that leg, which makes it easier on stock explorers or less experienced drivers. You're rig should have a pretty easy time on that trail. All I have is a 3" body lift with open diffs on 31s and I made it through just fine. I really want to run Elephant hill as mentioned above, so I will go for that for sure. I also wanted to try something new, which I guess I will be doing with GJarret at Lockhart Basin, so we'll see, I don't know if I want another new trail or Fins & Things.

By the way, GJarret, my wife has to be back to work on Tuesday, so I can't camp on the trail Monday night. From the trail description, it sounds like it would be a tough trail to do in one day. I'm really sorry, but I don't know if I can do it, at least not the way we had planned.

Thanks, I have been building on it since I decided to go a while back. It has been well worth the effort, as I have gotten to use my mods locally too.

I am driving 1500 miles there and back, no trailer for me, so I will be a little more cautious than those who have trailers.

I have to warn you- I am a rock crawling rookie. I have been offroad, though mostly sand, gravel and mud. There just aren't many rocks around here to crawl on. I am an excellent driver, IMO just will have to get used to the rocks.

Well Hey Joe Canyon is back on my list to do, it was discussed earlier in this thread somewhere. My friends just did the trail today and said it was easy with no real challenging sections, very narrow in sections but very scenic with old equipment at the end but the mine has been imploded sometime in the past few years. They took Long Canyon to Spring Canyon Bottom and then did Hey Joe Canyon. They said it was a little over 100 miles and it took 4.5 hours for 2 vehicles to do all 3 trails. If anyone wants to do this let me know.
