My 700R4 went in today

I agree with Randal on Bowtie's customer service. Someone was supposed to contact me Monday about sending me a will-call order. I finally called today, and was again told that someone would contact me later in the day. Guess what? No one called.
On a side note, I ordered a B&M Hammer shifter from Summit yesterday morning and had it overnighted. It was here before noon today. Too bad everyone doesn't deliver like that.

on mine i had the same problems y-pipe had to be widen, notch the adapter and ear from trans for the JBA headers to fit, move cats down and to right so it wouldnt hit the trans servo, cable to short, adatper that connects to throttle body didnt fit on bbk unit throttle body. my ranger had a composit intake thats diff from explorer so a piece had to be cut off. its driveable but not to good right now. I everything is fine but still dont have correct cable lenth dialed in yet. taken my truck to bowtie overdrive twice and there guys are helpful on working on it. once the buggs are worked out it should go good

Hopefully it will be finished tomarrow. Bowtie dropped the ball and didn't get me the TV cable (that was supposed to be overnighted) Saturday, so hopefully it will be here tomarrow and I can get it installed.
After that I still have to get the head pipe rebuilt, as I don't like the fit of the modified stock unit, but it will be nice to drive it someday.

Mine's done, finally...I'm going to go pick it up this weekend. I ran into similar troubles as the others....TV cable too short, clearance with the headers, couldn't use my BBK TB. I put my old stock exhaust manifolds and y pipe on again but I am going to do some modifications to the headers to make them work as opposed to notching the tranny and adapter plate. I'm also going to modify the TV cable bracket so I can use my BBK throttle body again. Even with the smaller TB and stock exhaust manifolds, my installer told me it pulls hard as he11 and has awesome off the line acceleration.

Mine also is setup with a manual torque converter lockup. I was thinking about trying to make it an automatic lockup like on the A4LD....but I like the amount of control the manual lockup gives me for different driving situations.

MaximumViolence- How much was your install? By the way it sounds you had someone else do it?

I did pay someone else to do it because I thought that I wouldn't have the time since I was extemely busy at work for a while....but I really probably could have done it myself in less time and for less money in labor costs....though they did an awesome job.

Total for adapters, transmission, and all parts was about 2500. Labor...don't ask me...I don't like to remember that part :(. But 2500 or so would be the minimum it would cost you if you used the same transmission manufacturer I did.

Finally drove it last night (at 10p.m.). Still need to fine tune the TV setting, but it sure has more pickup and pulls harder than before. It shifts a little softer than I'd like, but that can be fixed. Tomarrow it goes in to have the exhaust rebuilt. Hopefully I'll be able to take it out this weekend and give it a good through testing.

That lower first gear ratio really helps out :D Nothing like low end torque!

If you dont want it to shift harsh but would like it a little firmer try a Corvette servo. Just daily driving it will shift slightly firmer than the stock truck servo and will shift harder the harder you're on the throttle.

And after all you've done, book value is still 1/2 of what you put into it.

Kind of sad actually. I sure hope you dont get into an accident or anything because insurance doesnt care if you just put several thousand dollars worth of work into it. Book value is what they go by.

yes this is true but most of us who are putting all this money into are trucks are pretty much going to keep it till there is one tire left.

egads, my wife is rubbing off on me. I did not mean to imply that you are making a foolish mistake--quite the opposite actually. My wife cant see the reason why I am lifting my 92x 2 inches and putting 31's or 32's on it since it doesnt increase the value and is just a "waste of money"

Hey Digital Hate....did you finish doing the fine tuning to your trans? I finally got to drive mine....it's nice but I'm probably going to lower the RPMs where it upshifts. I need to figure out how to adjust the TV cable system so I can do that. Still, it's cool going up to 3000 in first....makes me feel like I've got a manual, almost. Where do you have yours shifting in the RPM range?

3000 RPM? Mine up shifts at 3500 (running wide open)and its still too low. It should hold through 4500.

Mine holds through 4500 wide open. It shifts around 3000 normally. I have to feather the gas pedal at around 2500 to get it to shift 'manually,' especially into overdrive. Using constant gas pressure, it doesn't like to shift into overdrive until around 3500 or so.

That's exactly how mine behaves, mudd*****.

I have a manual converter lockup switch....how do I know if it's working....it doesn't feel any different when I flip it.

I think to lower the NORMAL driving (not WOT) shift points the governor springs must be changed out (IE heavier ones if you want it to shift lower)

700r4

hey i was just wondering if anyone could tell me about the 700r4 kit from advance adapters, will it work with the flywheel from a 5 speed manual transmission or do i need to locate a flexplate from an automatic trans?

A good insurance company will pay you for recent repairs, tires, etc... if you can show proof of purchase. I have had many friends and relatives who have done this. You will have to be stubborn about it but they usually will reimburse some of it.

Talked to Bowtieoverdrives yesterday and they cleared some things up.

first of all, I can just leave the lockup switch alone....the converter will lock up automatically in 4th gear. the lockup switch would only be for towing while moving on the highway.

secondly, I can adjust the shift timing using the cam that the TV cable wraps around. there is an allen screw that just needs to be loosened and you can move the cam around on the arc that is cut out around where the allen screw is. this will adjust shift timing. I haven't tried it yet but I'll post results soon.
