I finally bought the Range Rover that I have been looking at. It is a 1988 40th Aniversary Edition SWB Range Rover. It has the 3.5 liter v8, which is all aluminum. The engine is a Buick 215ci that has a stronger block. They are know to be leaky, but this RR has been sitting in the same spot for a few weeks and there are no spots under it. It runs really smooth but has an idle problem when stopped in gear. The leather interior is shot, but that is to be expected of these vehicles. I will be stripping the rear seats and carpet and spraying it with Rhino Liner. The aluminum body has dents, but is completely free of corrosion--I have never seen a RR classic that wasn't corroded.

I will be putting a 2" spacer lift on it which will allow me to fit a 235/85/16 tire without trimming. I may go with a 265 though. I am making some center sway bar disconnects for it. This truck has already had the air suspension replaced with coils, which make it sit at the air suspensions highest level. The transfer-case was replaced in September. Here are the "before" pics.

That thing is ugly. haha Good luck on your project. Atleast I wouldn't feel bad damaging the body on the trails w/ that thing

I wanted to add that this truck has a RTI of 703 on a 23 degree ramp with the sway bar disconnects. I am looking for a front bumper at the moment. I am considering this bumper combo. The company will make these in any width you need, they will even make them for Explorers. The combo is only about $300.....

Thanx ;)

The specific ones I have pictured are about $400 and made for a Scout. The Scouts front mounts are very similar to the RR's, but I will have to fab some for the rear. They do them with or without D-ring mounts and receivers.

I didn't know those were solid up front. Looks like it'll be a nice project. Is this gonna be your wheeler, or will the Explorer and this see the same trails? I'd leave the 20s on the Explorer and just get some bigger tires for them, and then build this one up some as well.

:( :( :( :(

I decided not to sell the Explorer. The reason I wanted to sell it was to buy a never Land Rover, but now that I have this one, I will be keeping it.

P.S.-the Explorer has a TM lift and Iroks in the works:)

I started today fixing the dent on the hood. It looks like something fell on it or something. I pulled it out mostly and then will be using Bondo Ultra-light to smooth it out. I have never done body work on an aluminum vehicle. I will be painting the center section of the hood flat black, which will hide the repair work. I am not worrying about fixing any of the other dents, because they are minor. I am working on it at my parents house and forgot to take my camera, so I have no pictures yet. I also am spraying the grille in bedliner to give it a nice finish. AND I ordered some diamond headlights that have h4 bulbs(currently sealed beam) and blue halos. I will get pictures up soon.

EDIT: I just found out that the hood is steel. I thought it was stiff for aluminum:)

Here are the headlights I bought for the RR. They are halo-projectors. Well, they aren't really projectors, they just have the lens in the center to look like them. I will be wiring the halos to the parking lights and the "city lights" separately. Eventually, there will be HID in these:)

I got the grille off and sprayed with bedliner today. It alone made the truck look alot better. I also found some 4" round steel tubing in the shop to use as a temporary front bumper. I will be spraying it with bedliner also. It was only about 62 degrees today, so even with extra hardener the bondo on the hood took FOREVER to cure. I decided to spray the whole center section plus the front edge of the hood in bedliner. I have some pictures on my phone but they wont send for some reason....I would complain to the phone company about it, but it would be pointless because I am the one responsible for the network:(

what size tires are those? Can you get me some more info on his? Mine already has stage 2, which lifted it to the air suspensions max height, and I am adding some billet spacers onto that.

I am also looking for some newer style wheels, like some from a Disco I.

Also, since mine is an '88, it has the external type front door hinges-which means they are easy to remove. I am thinking of making some quick disconnects for them.

ive got a set of disco wheels if you want we can work something out....let me know.

just let me know what you want for them...or what you would like to trade.
