My Quest for 13.XX version 1

I can come up with all kind sof excuses -
We only got 2 passes in, due to repairing Dan;s truck, track shut downs and a huge crowd.

OH, I was staged in a pro lane, so I didn't get 3 yellow lights before the green. I was saying to myself " clear your head" when the green light hit-

R/T .626
60' 2.073
330 6.014
1/8 9.375 @ 73.08
1000' 12.310
1/4 14.819 89.79

Notice I picked up a whooping 16 mph over the final 1/8 mile-
All I acan say is I need to get my act together before doing this again-

but it was a good time. Next time I will go to MoKan race track though--KCIR isn't run so well-

Okay Chris - What kind of sticker do you want?

Video gone:rolleyes:

I'm good. I was going to buy one for anybody that got closer than me.

John, your R/T isn't bad at all. .4-.5 is perfect at a lot of track I've been to. The track I regular at you red light at .47

I'm impressed with the 60' time too, I didn't think those stock bananna peels would hook up that well.

I was disappointed in how they ran things.

It was disorganized confusion at its finest.

I wish I had done a better job on the vid:(

It was pretty disappointing how well they ran things. It took them over an hour just to clean up the track after a car lost it's thermostat housing, it's normally a 10-15 minute clean up at my local track. I expected better from a track that's open at least twice a week for an event like this things should have run much smoother.

And Jon's truck is faster than that, I've driven it and it's got more than a second on me in the quarter. He just needs some more passes to figure it out.

The vid wasn't bad.

Jt - Is it me or did you not trip the light at the staging lane?

I know the 347 has A LOT more than this. It's choked off so it did pretty well with that and the heavy truck it was pulling. You really can't have the best of both worlds in my opinion but you can have a happy medium. (Like you have)

I believe with just a few more practice runs you'll be in the mid to low 14's...go back to duels and 13's for sure. That's just my opinion and I know you're going a different direction now with your truck.

That sounds like my two local 1/8 mile tracks, they are not special either. Here it's not popular except for a small group of faster cars, and the 1/8 mile isn't what people want anyway. It's too bad that you didn't get more time in there, maybe next time.

The videos were done well, but could a zoom have been used at the end of each run?

Well, all in all I'm happy, because I have wrenched just about every bolt on this truck,
drove it 870 miles one way to Colorado and back, beat it up while there,
drove 110 miles to the drag strip, raced and drove it home. All while getting 18+ MPG

I Know it can do way better, I haven't even played around with the tune file settings, and, I do believe the tuned air fuel ratio is a bit conservative.

Well I like the 2 second 60 foot time, that's 8/10's faster than stock. Would you tow with that 3000rpm TC now, I ask after buying a 2800rpm TC?

Under 1000 lbs and under 100 miles maybe.

Don, our times were way different my stockish 60' was 2.45, and it's down to a 2.29

You are riding the throttle at the start yes? Almost all of my testing has been normal at idle tests, and 2.8 seconds is about stock.

I'll have to get with James about the tuning, for towing. I didn't have any real need for anything but one tune, but now I may need something to lock the TC if it doesn't normally while cruising/towing.

Yes, but it ran a 2.50 launching from idle, so there wasn't much difference

Believe it or not, you can gain a BUNCH messing with the locking and unlocking of the torque converter. I have a testing ground where I measure the trap speed at the end of the 1/4 mile. I was trapping at around 100 MPH and when I got the converter locking up just right, along with adding more timing, I'm trapping somewhere in the neighbor hood of 110 MPH. Now, I need to go to the track so I can see how far off I am cuss it may be a different story their. Anyways, enough with that.

JT - You're right, at least you've went to the track and also to the mountains. Most of all, you're having fun doing it and that's all that counts. A 14 second heavy SUV is impressive.

Uh oh, turbo time for Jon, haha........and turbo time for Eric, haha. I did 4 passes at a track today, and my fastest was 15.337@89.15mph. Three passes were trials, and the fourth was round one of eliminations.......AND.....I red lighted on the one that counted, HAHA. I am not disappointed though, as I wanted to get eliminated anyway because I had to leave. The red light was not intentional though, I guess I was just trying too hard.

Sorry if I sound like an idiot right now, I have been up since 4:30am, am sick with a cold, and have driven 300 +miles today, along with dealing with drag strip crap.

Great job you guys!

I believe James may be able to shave off more but I'm not sure how aggressive he's going with your tune. That and you have to let him know you want more out of it. He’ll warn you not to go to far and that’s his job.
I think you're going down the right road about locking the convertor ASAP. You can't do much about locking the conv in First, but you can have the conv lock right after the shift to second....right after the shift to third....and so on. The conv being locked makes you go faster. The funny thing is you get the feeling that you're slower because you don't feel a sudden "pull" with the converter is locking up. It's hard to explain.

I gotta figure out how to shave .81 second off this thing before it is over
hmmm

I think your shift points should be about 1000RPM higher than they are...

I think the first time I go to the track, I'll rub track bite all over the tires in the line. My tires need replacing anyways.
