Power Liftgate & Remote Start

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B1E4LCW/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I ordered this remote and programmed it myself to work with the vehicle. I then printed the directions (Thank you Riley) for activating the remote start and gave them to the tech's at Ford with the sections they had to complete highlighted. The tech's didn't appreciate this and while they made me wait 45mins for them to complete a 2 min task it's all done and everything works as it should. Remote start works great, wife love's this style remote. So much for all of Fords $600 quote's, $98 for an hour of labor and the cost of the remote. There is an edge remote that is identical that I bet would work as well.

I thought that particular remote was for the "intelligent access" enabled models only. How does that remote (without a physical metal key) work with your XLT model with aftermarket remote start??

Edit: Got ahead of myself there, but it sounds like your wife leaves her regular key in the car and just uses the fob you purchased on Amazon as a remote starter only. Was wondering if you figured out a roundabout way of not using the physical key with the new remote start fob...

Just wondering if there are any instructions in the kit. Can I program this myself and save the hassle at the dealership?

Not unless you have a Ford computer and IDS diagnostic tool.

Called my dealer today as they dont show pricing for the install on the website. Service manager said install is done by an outside company. This is not acceptable to me and I don't understand why this dealer would not install the remote start themselves! Gonna call a couple of other dealerships tomorrow! !

I called two dealers yesterday for pricing on the remote start. The first where I bought the car said $395 installed by an outside company. The next said $550!! The kit which is two keys I found for $229. I was thinking of getting the keys and having them cut by my local hardware store that cut an explorer key for me once before with no problem. Programing the keys and then bringing the explorer to a ford dealer to have the remote starter enabled. Do you think I would have a problem getting this done?

That's what many on here have done. PM me your email and I'll send you the programming instructions to give to your dealer. Some dealers don't even know it's possible to install the factory remote start. They should only charge you an hours labor max as it only takes about 10 min to enable it.

Thanks Riley for your help..just ordered the remote start 100 series off a ford dealer on ebay. Cheapest I have seen with no tax and free shipping. I'll let you know how the dealer programing goes!

Received my remote start kit today! Two new keys with remote start feature. Going to have them cut tomorrow and program them. Question I have three keys programed already. Can I delete any? The book says I can only program 4 keys!

I didn't have an aftermarket unit installed. I had the factory remote start enabled after purchasing said key and programming it to the vehicle myself. I haven't looked into retrofitting the push button for her vehicle as I don't know at this point if she's keeping it at the end of her lease. I do know there are aftermarket kits out there that will make your vehicle push button with intelligent access. I plan to get one in the future for my pick up.

I'm ok with the key...guess I should have got a limited or waited for the sport to come out. Missed the sport by three months! Now I wish I had all the extras the higher level trims have!

Well I went to the dealer to have the remote start installed. I wish these techs were all up to speed with this procedure. I gave them my instructions that Riley sent me. Also wanted my keys reset because I had programed a third key when I bought the explorer and only had room for 1 new remote start key. You can only program 4 transponder keys at a time. Instead of deleting the keys and starting over the tech changed my settings to unlimited transponder keys to program the fifth key. Well he came back and told me one of my new keys was defective. I called the dealer I bought them from on ebay and he said he would ship me a replacement key. Next they tell me the explorer is ready. When I checked to see if it would remote start it wouldn't. I told the service manager and he call the tech over. The tech said he didn't know he had to enable it. Ugghh.... He went over and picked up a small laptop and hooked it up to the explorer under the dash. It took 2 minutes to change the settings. As he was changing the settings he said I need an antenna... I told him I didn't and he soon agreed as the explorer remote started. He asked how do you know so much about this. I told him the ford explorer forums! He said maybe I should check them out! Lmao.

Hi everyone,

Having read this thread, I went to my dealer today to have the remote start enabled on my Explorer 2013 and one of the remotes from my Escape reprogrammed for it but they told me that there is no remote start module on my Explorer.

I posted about it here:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=410225

I'm confused.

Want to add to both

Comes with two keys. Your dealer is mis-informed, no additional hardware or wiring is needed. PM me your email and I'll send you the Ford instructions so you can take it to the dealer.

I just bought a '15 XLT and a '15 Base model- we had remote start on both of our pick-ups, so it's the first thing I want to add to both of them.

From what I've read I need the hood switch for the base model, and nothing but the (2 keys) kit for the XLT.

Riley- if you're still following this thread, can I please get the instructions to take to the dealer for the enabling I remote start? Thanks in advance.

I was going to PM- but didnt see the option of how-
Thanks.

If anyone else has a copy of the instructions they can send to me, please PM me- I'll give you my Email- like to get this done before it gets much colder. Maybe one of the Ford Reps.??? Thanks

I took a look when I got home from work- XLT has the hood switch and switch harness in place already, The wife's base model has the wire harness run right up to the bottom of the switch mount location, but will definitely need the switch.

I think what I'm going to do is avoid any problem with the dealer overcharging me for the remote kit, and "install" and just buy it through the ford accessory site, with the price of $100 for the "install"- I can live with that. Maybe I'll run it by the asst service manager, who's one of the big reasons I continue to shop there, and see what he'll quote me for $$$, But I'd still really appreciate it if Riley, or anyone else can get me a set of the dealer instructions, in case there's any issues... thanks much

Enabling Remote Start is a function of the dealer IDS software. Should take them no more than 30 minutes to do and that's even long. Remote start requires the remote start key and hood pin. If the hood pin doesn't exist then you must add one and hopefully the wiring is there for it. The official remote start kit has two keys and nothing else and retails for like $275 (a rip off). Hood Pins have a retail around $30 I believe. If the wiring is there its a 1 min job to pop out the plug and put in the hood pin.
