...It's official...No more paying for future alignments on the X...

...I took and bit the bullet today and payed Firestone for the Lifetime alignment package...$169.99..The standard 1 time alignment is $74.99..

...I first inquired about the Lifetime bit......I asked the usual questions...

1) How often can I come in and have my vehicle aligned..?? As often as I feel I need to..
2) How many times can I get my vehicle aligned..?? As long as I own the truck..
3) If I break parts and swap them, can I just get another aligment?? Yes
4) Can I bring it in to any Firestone ..?? Yes
5) Do I need to carry a receipt ..?? No, It is on the computer at All Firestone's..

...And you know I had to ask..:D
6) If I put a solid axle on the truck, am I still covered..?? No,I will have to get a new Lifetime warranty for that axle..

....For the idea it seems like a total win situation for me, and well worth the money...It was a tough decision to cough up the difference but I figure I would need at least 1 alignment a year, and I also get an alignment each time I get new front tires, so I hope to make some big savings in the future..:biggthump

...Considering the truck has 199,208 miles on it as of today, I plan on doing at least replacements of most of the stock front end parts...

Sweet!

Any catches to it? Sounds like a great deal... You don't have to buy tires from them, you just purchase by paying the one-time fee?

..That's all you do...:biggthump

...I have read it here before on the Forum for the last couple years, I personally checked it out last year, and I re-verified it yesterday...Just pay them once for as long as you own the vehicle...

...No tricks or gimmick's...;)

ya firestone does that here to, i know this weekend im getting my ball joints and tie rod ends on, then im goin there next weet to get it done.

...To tell the truth...

...The thought of changing my ball joints in the future was on my mind when I asked them my questions before the alignment...

...My ball joints check out fine so far, knock on wood, but when I do change them I won't have to pay for another alignment...

....Having to pay $75 every time I fix or replace something could get costly and helped me decide to go with the lifetime alignment...I figured I will save probably $225-$300 bucks over the next 3 or more years...

...And now I don't have to worry thinking I'm finished with another repair project and still have to come up with the alignment cost or take the chance on eating up another set of tires...:D

ya i have no choice but to do it, ive had the explorer about a year now, and they needed done when i got it, just couldnt afford it.. but in the next week im going to do my ball joints and tie rod ends, change my tranny fluid, and put in a drain plug, change my diff oil and transfer case oil, and new front brake lines..

its all stuff i know i should have done last summer.. but now i have everything for it, except the oil's i need.. still figuring what i want to use for it.

wow thats a really good write up for the ball joints... reading that i think ill do my u joints too.. im right there anyways. it will be my first time too doing them.. tho ill be at a buddies house and hes done them before, but i just want to use his lift so im not on the ground..

im not sure if i want to use synthetic in my tranny, im wanting to change it about every year... maybe in the diff's i will tho.

Ball joints are easy. Just buy/borrow a press, and you're good to go!

(A C-clamp press is all that is needed - a shop press would make the job a little easier, but is not necessary.)

...This last weekend I took the X out to camp for one night...But before I could do that, I needed to empty out all the tools, old parts, and new parts, that were stored in the vehicle...

...Then came the task of getting all the bits and pieces of stuff off of the carpet, that was either loose or ground in......I decided to go old school but needed to find a quality tool first...

...For those who don't know, this is called a wisk broom(also spelled as whisk)...These have been out for decades and possibly even centuries...The bristles are made of corn husk...They are just getting harder to find and the quality has really gone down...:thumbdwn:

...These sell from $6 to $8...

...I ran across this at the Ace Hardware and it is the perfect tool for my X...:biggthump
pACE-952440dt.jpg

..It is made with plastic fiber bristles and they are firm and yet, still flexible...I believe it will last a long time...They are about $4.50 each and are also sold in six packs from Ace Hardware for $28.50...This broom worked out perfect...It also brought life back to the carpet...

...The size is perfect to fit in the stash holes of the door panels too...;)

What was old is new again!

Have you heard of a "shop vac"? :p:

I remember reading about whisk brooms in my history class - they are waaaaay before my time!!!!

Yeah, but the way a stiff bristled broom can wake up the carpet, that thing really worked. I tell ya, the "green" factor alone makes a broom a wise investment! I'm still pullin for the old broom!

Have you heard of a "shop vac"?

...Spoken like a true, city boy...:p:

......I should have said it was cordless and requires no batteries...:D

...I went to several stores looking for the old style and let me tell you, there is only about 2/3's of the bristles in them...They are the same size as they used to be but, they relly wouldn't hold up on the carpet, let alone with the heat factor...

...If you get food, mud, or sand, ground into your carpet, this broom is for you...They work great for cleaning up the carpet real quick when camping, and they also work great if you don't have carpet...

...I have carried a real whisk broom in every truck I've owned...This is my first plastic one..It is easy to find in the truck with it's bright colors and I don't have to worry about it coming apart in pieces, in the truck...;)
