The Turdle gets a 4406!

I dropped the tank.I have regular sized jack stands-
If I had just 5-6 more inches---
don't have the room to "chest it" but I did get the nipples touching (for lack of better termsl ol) and pin was right in line. I now see that Where Evan was describing was exactly where I need to pound the floor into submission- I made a few good scratches with the case to be sure. Working the lack slowly got it all the way up.

One question--
Is 3 1/2" clearance between the trans shifter mount dealio and the trans tunnel enough? Should I bang it some more also--
Ok 2 I don't have my shift linkage yet--should I wait or continue?

you dont linkage to put it in 2wd or 4hi or 4 low from under the truck :) with the truck secured securely in park of course and not running

You dont have a muffler either but neither of these would stop me from driving it :)

3.5" should be plenty I am thinking, but are you talking about right here? this is not on the t case its on the tailhousing

if the only linkage you dont have is the solid rod that goes from shifter assembly (side of tailhousing to the transfer case shift arm) I would think you could fab one of those at ace hardware

Nice pictures, Jamie!

See the gold bolt at the top of the shifter arm? It needs room in the trans tunnel for a non BL truck. Don't know how much is enough though-

Edit: the linkage can be added later- get that sucker bolted in!

ive been having the same trouble. I just can't find one for the life of me.

Take the shift indicator switch thingie off, go to a salvage yard, find a vehicle that they will let you cut something off the harness. I believe the one I have has something to do with ABS, but I am not sure. I had to grind some "fins" off my switch to let the connector slip over it. The shape is all you should be worried about.

from my thread:
"The pigtail I used for the pressure switch on the new t case came off my 88 bronco II. Since my BII has a e-shift t case and I already hooked up the lights this wiring plug was not needed."

What this means is the 98 t case has the sameplug in as my 88 bronco II did if it was equipped from the factory with a manual t case, which my truck was not. This plug hung there for years and years, just tucked up in the frame rail until I needed it for the explorer.

This leads me to believe just about any damn Ford you can find in the yard with a manual t case is gonna have this plug, heck the electric shift trucks probably have it too, just sitting there doing nothing

You can also use some female round pin connectors and attach directly to the exposed prongs

sounds very good, now I want a V8.

Thanks evrybody for the help, and, motivation. I would have never attempted this on my own.

Here is a picture of where the non Body lift guys will need to "adjust" for some clearance

red circles are the spots to hit--
Yellow circle is the shift linkage mount--you need additional clearance here
Blue circle shows relocated harness, to first bolt hole.

Yeah it is dirty under there--I'll hit it with the powerwasher when I am finished--

Take all your aggressions out now--with a hammer, and try to hide the evidence with a piece of crap can of stove paint because that's all you have laying around--
That may be too much, or , not enough-
Going back up!
back in a minute--

OK
all alone using a jack is not the safe way, because you'll get it just about there, and need to shift the balance point, which is when it will fall off the jack, and then you reach out to catch it, of course--you can't.
That was awesome--all of the sudden my back doesn't hurt so bad.

Right about then a friend called, wants to show me the new Mustang gt he just bought."Yes I do, bring it over" I say.

heh heh--he will be crawling under there with me.

I had the pin touching the hole-all I need is someone to shove it in.

:D
I know that doesn't sound right, but my hand hurts--

Sweet get picks of the pony car, and the T/C in there .

if the pin is touching the locating hole basically you need to lift the rear of the t case up and stab that sucker

why is your tailhousing red? anabolic sealer or lazy clean up job?

I hope its not your new t case shift lever hand thats all fubar now
:)

Yup, once its on the spines, get someone to lift the back and shove it in there.

WHAT!!!??? Go for a ride in the Mounty!!!

On a somewhat disappointing note, I was browsing through the classifieds today and thought I hit the jackpot. The ad read: Late model F150 auto tranny and transfer case $200.

I called the guy up and apparantly his idea of late model is different than mine... it was out of an '87 F150.

EDIT: On a slightly more positive note, I just now found a 4.6 F150 front driveshaft for $50 at a local yard. They wanted $450 for the manual 4406 with 130k miles!!! I'm seriously contemplating doing the electric shift swap though.

Jon, does your Mounty have rear a/c? Are you gonna have to modify your duct work?

EDIT PART 2: GOOD GOD!!! I just got off the phone with another yard and they have the electric shift t-case, but they want $800 for it.

As it stands right now, I've found the front driveshaft for $50 and the rear driveshaft for $75, but I'm having a hard time finding the t-case. I'm gonna have to try this car-parts.com place.

It's in!! All bolted up tight!

Man, I'm so stoked now!!
Pictures in a bit. Going for a ride in the Mustang!

damnit Jon!! We want pictures and videos of good 'ol smokey burnouts.

The ones on carparts are just as high. I was looking there today.

I found quite a few that were sub-$350 in A condition. Of course, I was searching the entire US, so it might be where you're searching.

I found a possible candidate, but I don't know if I'm going to pull the trigger. It is a 4406 electric shift w/o ToD.
