OK
To keep the "MX4" look.
I found some center caps on ebay, which were "generic"
These have smooth, black centers. I Painted them, applied a Mercury emblem, then cleared and here is what we get.

Wheels are very dirty, but the "Storm grey metallic" duplicolor paint with "wheel clear" works pretty good for matching the smoked chrome powdercoating.

Nicccce!

It's a good touch:thumbsup:

Umm.. You have gone off the deep end... LOL Good looking rig man. wow

Ok so I powdercoated my rear bumper Smoked chrome with clear

I'm working on a metal front bumper now, just have to finish filling in a low spot with jb weld, and it will be powdercoated to match

... the rust on the bumper.

Very nice Jon, I wondered if you might powder coat the bumper. That looks like a great match in the picture.

That bumper looks awesome!!!

Thanks. The bumper turned out very well. I also got the carriage bolts, inside the square holes, and, the back side as well. It shouldn't rust for a while--

Since I had earlier removed the lower support bar-I powdercoated it separately and re installed it, as it fits with this hitch. I also straightened out the bumper brackets.

Must be because of the rust comment made..lol

Jon takes this stuff to heart guys!

Looks good Jon, cant wait till you get that front steelie put on!

dayum that is one nice ex! errrrrrr RBV!

Gerrald used metal to re-enforce the factory parts (sliders) I believe it helped them hold up quite well off road?
The factory bumper looks nice with the PC!!!, I am wondering if it can also be "helped out" from underneath, in the strength dept.. dropping off 4' rock ledges in Moab will test that factory piece

PC looks so nice, your truck = drool drool So nice!! Lifted = more fun!!

beautiful.. im jealous

My rear bumper is in fine shape but my front one is another story. (hint hint :D)

the hitch obviouxly protects the rear, the front OEM bumper, well lets just say it dents easy!

I love the smoked chrome! I forget Jon what did you do about your converter issue?? low range overpowering the brakes? Computer tune?

My 96 overpowers the brakes in low range if you are on type of decline = can get scary = my brakes need a total overhaul! sport track knuckles and hydro boost me thinks

I hope to connect my datalogging thingy up to get some good hill climb data during our Smorr tripp. Hopefully James can figure out a torque converter lock setup which will help.

As long as the truck holds on to it's caliper bolts they seem to hold fine --

mine are OEM as far as I can tell, hydraulics, etc... 178K miles LOL

I have all the parts...almost
I will send you calipers soon, getting used to this work/father thing :) he is so amazing

Was it difficult to remove/install the plastics off the bumper?

Nope-
i used a large screwdriver as a forcer-apply a bit of force and pinch the retainers together from inside the bumper-
the plastic will just pop off.

Hmm, I want to Herculine my bumper trim plastic. I wonder how difficult it will be to remove them with the bumpers on. I would rather do that then apply it with them on.
