whats faster, explorer or civic?

Would you like the know what Internals were used also?

Yes :D
cause your pricetag (fair market value) is already over 5k ;)

once your 500ft -lbs of torque run out i hope you have that Top-end to keep up with that Honda..

Why :p
I'm not gonna need it in the 1/4 and that is what my last fox body and this one will be built for. Shift at 5500 and still have a gear left at the end. Well in my old coupe at least, but it would do 120 in 4th. No time slips, but a best time of 12.2 or something around there on street tires.
(10 years ago  )
Had about 1500 under the hood (my cost, fair value closer to 2500) and another 500 into the chassis.

Honda's crx's and hatch weigh about 2000-2300 pounds, your fox body weigh about 3700 lbs and if you have a shelby mustang go ahead and add 300+ pounds

The CRX was also alot smaller than the current civics no.....and I did say civic... Regardless though my 'vert was recently weighed at the dump and weighed in at 3300 with Driver and a full tank of gas (on the door it does say 3600 though). I have done little to no weight reduction as of yet. My coupe weighed in at 2550 at the track. Most of the interior was gone (except carpet and my seat) and the hood and deck lid were fiberglass. Tubular K member, and of course all engine parts that I could exchange for aluminum I did. Point I would still put my coupe against ANY Honda running similar HP numbers and be confident in his demise.

I'd take the V8 Fox body ANY DAY
I can always turbo my V8, add nitrous, etc

Hehee imagine a 302 with over 20 pounds of boost and the supporting mods to handle it

Very true. And like I said before you can't make an I4 sound good I find it hilarious someone is so pro-Civic on this site. Hondas make me laugh. Honda enthusiasts make me ROFL.

hahaha summed it all up for me there didn't you. ;)

Anybody know what the 1/4 mile time for a stock civic is?
Stock Fox Mustangs run consistent mid to low 14's depending on model.

93 lifted, don't be offended, most of us just hate rice, and have been into performance automotive long enough to find it funny when one thinks they can build a 4 cylinder to more extreme levels than a V8. Sure you can make it fast as hell, but I can always make more power in a V8 with the same general modifications.....

In the end speed has a lot less to do with the engine and rather more to do with the chassis anyway. An area in which both vehicles are extremely lacking.

This thread originally asked if an X could beat a stock CIVIC. Your comment was to remind us that honda and acura now have 200 hp models in their line-up. My response is that my 15 year old bone stock convertible Mustang would spank one of the new Honda's......The rest well none of it is relevant to the question at hand, but makes for an entertaining debate.

Honda Civic to Ford Mustang is Like Honda Ridgeline to Ford Explorer Sport Track. Now which would you rather modify for offroad use. Or...which is more offroad worthy in its stock configuration.

See Honda's suck :p

Adds up to well over 5k in my head, but what do I know?
This is getting funny here guys
An engine swap was not previously mentioned. I thought we were talking about a Civic with a Civic engine? I think the motor and transmission on their own cost $5k. Maybe he runs a chop shop and got them for free? :p I know Garret turbos are cheap.

Now there is a good point, we haven't even opened the engine swap can o' worms. Think your CRX could've hung with a new Mustang with a Supercharged 429 Cobra Jet under the bonnet????? ;)

p

OK OK well the AOD (automatic) models run high 14's to low 15's untill they get a shift kit and some lower gears under there.....

he said his bro in law runs a speed shop in Portland.
Heck my rig would cost almost nothing if Ford Racing sponsored my build.

Apples to apples people. $5K spent on a Honda Vtec engine will not get you near what $5k spent on a pushrod V8. :) in fact I bet the V8 makes tripple the HP and torque.
Heck if I had $5K in my GT-40 5.0L I bet I could beat your civic even with my 35's!
hahaha

Motor was a k20a2 with a k20a transmission with LSD, Bottom end was all forged 9:3.1 compression, head was crower stage 3 head package, port polished, milled, custom Garret T-3 turbo non Hybrid, trim size AR43/AR60,MBC,fmic, tuned with Hondata, then TurboEdit,

Would you like the know what Internals were used also?

ok lets go bottom end...i dont care who you know.
for the motor alone youre looking at 2 grand even if you bought it from your best friend, the lsd will be at least another grand, the turbo alone would cost more than both put together, add the hondata and youre well over 5.i dont even have to add the rest of it, and i speak from experience so like i said
......cough.....cough.....BULLSHIT!!!!

How long can a puny little 450 hp 4 cylinder engine last with all of the crazy high cylinder pressure neede to devolop those numbers. You'd need a case of head gaskets

Ok this is getting retarted, But i can find the Humor in it, Im not really on this forum to argue, But it just sound like eveyone has a problom with honda's....Maybe you spent alot of money building your big 4 barrel v8 and got it running great, and you got your ass handed to ya by a built 4 cylinder....lol

Dream'r im not offended at all,

Take care guys

I am glad you see the humor, and aren't offended. I did spend a bit of money, but as of yet can't get anyone to race me so i guess I need schooled by someone
Maybe if I lived in the city
Oh well, no I don't have a problem with hondas at all, unless they sound obnoxious ( anything but stock)
I just think the comparison to the potential of a v-8 is funny

Yeah I am an opinionated one, who bleeds ford blue ;)
But I'm mostly just messing with ya.

yeah only spending 5 grand will not net you anything close to 11's. i have yet to run my gsx in the 1/4 mile, but ive got well over 18 grand in her. but then again ill only by the best of the best, if you buy cheap the stuff will break lol. if that civic your trying to race is a dx, lx, hx, or even an ex auto youll beat it. an ex 5 speed will be pretty close up top, and an si will kill you. and its front wheel drive which means no traction till midway thru second gear if your lucky and know how to drive your car, which most idiots dont.

I personally think Honda's are awesome, I would have one as a DD in a heart beat.
Ecinomical and worth the $$$ IMO, you def get your $$$'s worth.

my last car was a honda, an 87 crx. loved that car but found it too small in a town dominated by monster trucks. i think the recorded weight in the car was 1900lb or so, plus the weight i reduced and webber carb i had made it handle like a go-cart and fast.... until the gearing ran out. some guys have 300 hp in thier 17-1800 lb car and those are fast machines

More of a Nissan fan myself not too kin on Honda's.

Why, with all of those extra 5.0 drivetrains you have lying around you may as well buy a Ford Focus for a commuter then cram a 5.0 in it. Gotta keep the blue oval :D

Since every one is impressed by a ricey Honda weighing in at 2k with a 300hp 4 cylinder that can only make power at 7000 RPM, I wonder what they would think of a 2k lb. Focus with a well built GT-40 drivetrain.

yes

I like Nissan and Toyota as well :)
Nissan Maxima's are awesome! Talk about moneys worth, geesh. That 3.0L V6 they have been building for umpteen years is amazing.
I don't even have to say anything about the Toyota's, they speak for themselves.

remember the Toyota, 91(ish?) Celica All Trac GT with all wheel steering and turbo, wow baby those suckers were awesome, ahead of their time

I personally am a fan of watercooled VW's, if I get a car and its not a pony car it would likely be a VW. But I am okay with tons of expensive maintenence on a GTI, and a 1.8T GTI to fool around with :)

My Ex fiance had a 87 CRX si, man awesome little car, so easy to keep going for 300K miles. But yeah its a go cart, a 1/2 ton truck would just destroy it, no thanks.

Your funny.. Did you mustang run 11.4 last year on 26.3 lbs of boost

With 26# of boost, that's all your ran?? BWHAHAHAHAHAHA. You said spending 5 grand for 13s is sad, NO, 26 lbs and 11.4 is very sad. You should be in 10s. I see 13 lbs of boost in my Lightning on a good day, $700 in mods, street tires and I put down a 12.6 with a 1.89 60 ft. With slicks and a better tune I should get a 12.20 with ease. There's a few turbo guys with 16-17 psi running mid-low 10s. One is still on his stock short block. And you talk about power to weight? Cubic inches mean more. There's no replacement for engine displacement.
