Water part II....

Rains have settled in at a constant. I figured I better go take a look inside the rig. 2 problems have unfolded here and I managed to take care on one of them.

It seems the seal on the sunroof is not perfect, and needs addressed to stop the leak in the first place. Will work on that later.

So since the leak lets water under the sunroof into the cavity underneath, the drain tube is supposed to let that water flow under the rig and cause no harm. Well, that would be great, if it worked like it was supposed to.

LOTS of water was in the rig. Seat, headliner, & carpet was soaked on the Drivers side. So I removed the trim and the sun visor and carefully pulled it back a bit to get a good look inside. Found the drain tube attached to the sunroof. When I touched it, it fell off. Aha! So, that's where the water was getting in!

There is a plastic insert on both sides of a short fat tube that acts as a tube size adapter. Well, it had fallen apart inside. Crumbled to the touch, and was blocking the water flow. The drain tube in the A-pillar is a dif size then the nipple on the sunroof, so they made it fit with the inserts and a fat short hose.

This is the drain tube & the drain nipple separated from each other.

After using a coat hanger to clean out the drain nipple and channel, I came up with this fix with something I had in the shop. This is about as redneck as it gets, but works like a charm. :)

Enter the cheap fluid hose that attaches to fluid bottles.

The black tip is what I was after. Two different size ends that fit perfectly in the two different size tubes.

Cut off the cap part of it, and then stuck one end in the short fat stock tube.

Then the other end in the drain tube that goes into the A-pillar.

Then installed that to the drain nipple on the sunroof.

This will allow the water to now flow and drain under the rig in the A-pillar. I searched inside the B-pillar, and found no drain tube, nor did I find one attached to the back of the sunroof. Hopefully this works for now until I figure out a way to seal the leak. :)

I have the sunroof assembly out of the '97 parts truck,if you are needing parts. The track was bent in the accident, but it's all there-including the glass.I will be in Colorado in a couple of weeks, and could pick it up.
PM me if ou are interested.

I appreciate the offer, but I can get my hands on one here fairly easy if needed. I'm not entirely sure I can't fix this one yet. I have an idea brewing in my head already on how to rectify it.

Well, after doing some searching, I found out why I didn't see the rear drain tubes. They attach way in the back of the tracks that go into the roof. To get to all 4 drains, I would need to remove the entire headliner. :(

I hate that I need to do this. The headliner is in good shape for the most part in this rig. The headliner in the 94 is the one that needs pulled and replaced. Damn that Murphy and his laws!

Found this pic that Joedirt had taken at a junkyard.

Really was considering one of the cheap pop up sunroofs (no drains etc) but after seeing your waterleak I dont think I am going to consider it. Had a Lumina and Taurus with front window leaks. Carpets needed to be replaced on both, was not pleasant. Dont envy what you are chasing but we all know you will fix it. Recently inquired about suede headliner, was quoted $500... Many my headliner looks so much better now. Sucks you have to pull it down if it is good shape.

I have the old OEM pop up sunroof(it has drains) in my Explorer, and I'd never choose a drain-less version again. The built in drain system is far better. If the drains are kept up, anything but a massive leak is safely controlled and passed through o the ground. If the old style gets a leak, the vehicle is flooded with any water that gets through.

Since work has dried up once again for the last few weeks, I had no choice but to take the A1-Cardone Master Cylinder back for another (Lifetime warranty on it).

Swapped it out, but had nobody around to help bleed the old fashion way. I have a helper to pump the peddle tomorrow. I will keep on bringing it back until I get one that works correctly with no by-pass. I'm sure the bigger tires do not help any, but it I have to keep trying and doing what I can at the moment.

Will post up more on this, after they are bled. :)

Got the brakes bled. They work, and no more Bypassing has happened with the new Master cylinder.

BUT....The idle is dropping and rising upon depressing the brake peddle. :(
I think the Vac booster is going out on it. I just cant get a break on brakes! Grrr...

WoW you should "stop" for awhile on those brakes, they keep braking....

And you are not alone, it seems one fix leads to another failure for me lately... Fix one thing, smile for a few minutes and then realize you need more parts and more time for something else... Never ending.

Teaser: O what could it be...
I will say when I had the lid off, I was impressed!!!
