01 sport - 4.0 SOHC STS turbo charged (Project complete)

If the track you go to can prep the track half decent, 20lbs in your tires with a little burnout should hook you up decent. I am sure you would get a little wheelspin but the powertrax will help with that. Maybe don't brake boost at the line to much? Either way, get a run in just for some baseline testing and then you can fine tune everything if you haven't blown it up. :)

I can get the truck off the line fine - I know what RPM not to cross to prevent wheel spin but when the truck hits boosts it will get sideways quick if your not careful. It's not as easy to predict what's going to happen when you start spinning at 30 - 40 MPH and the truck goes sideways. The slightest touch on the gas can do wonders. The problem was the rear end and the tires I ran.

I ditched the powertrax and I'm now running a unit I got from James.

Sounds like two more wheels of traction could help.

Well since you won't run it because it gets sideways at the strip and it scares the living daylights out of you, I am challenging you. I bet you 50 bucks it won't run a 13.5 in the quarter:) If you make a video that can easily see YOU running and your time, as well as your timeslip, I will send you 50 bucks. Also, have to run it before the end of May, otherwise no bet. Not saying you are lying, just giving you an incentive to get that turd down the track:D Whoops, I meant to say turbo not turd:p:

Okay, I'll take that.

How about 100 bucks if it runs a 12.5 or lower? I'll do the same for you if you can run lower than a 15.00.

No, I don't lie but I have been known to be in left field a few times. And no, I'm not scared, just concerned I wouldn't get a time worth going for when having to feather the throttle and fight traction problems.

What kind of tires are you running?

UniRoyal 235-75-15

I know, but one thing at a time. Give me some tire suggestions.

I would bet that is a lot of your traction problem right there. I like my toyo proxes s/t but they've been discontinued and I haven't heard much about their replacments the s/t 2. I don't have any problems hooking up with them at the track. A set of drag radials is always an option, check craigslist, you can usually pick up a used pair there pretty cheap after a more powerful car as gotten all they can out of them, but they would probably still be good enough for you to run.

Try to find some OEM 16's, then you can easily go with a fatter tire as well as being short. Stock wheels that old can often turn up for under $250. You have 29" tires, and the 16's were 30" tall. So if you do that kind of 16, think of a 255/70/16, and play with sizes, Tire rack is good for that. An example is a 275/60/16, that's a 29" tire like you have now, and it's much wider. Look around for other trucks though for examples of what they look like. You do need new tires, the 75 series is too tall for a sport truck.

So if you run a 12.5 or faster, I send you 100 bucks. If I can run a 15.00 or faster, you will send the money bacK? All has to be done before the end of May. You need to pick up some drag radials or something with more bite. Keep the 235's on the front. If the bet sounds good to you, then I'm game:)

Yep, that sounds good. If you make 15.00 or faster before I make 12.5 or faster you get 100 bucks. If I don't make it by the end of May and you make the 15.00 or faster you keep the money.

Everyone reading is a witness.

For me to get a 12.5 or faster, I'll have to get some good sticky tires and more than likely have to turn the boost up to around 12 lbs.

I'm going out right now to cut the top off the explorer to lighten it up. THe back hatch is coming off too. hehe

Leave the sunroof closed during a run.

I need to find about 500lbs of dead weight and I should be good to go:) I sure hope you don't blow that little 4.0 with 12lbs of boost because it'll take more than 100 bucks to fix it. Good luck and take all the time you need:D

I think I can make one or two runs @ 12lbs. ;) Just remember, If I blow the engine, it's your fault. hehe

CDW - I'll look at the 16 inch rims. You're the second one that told me that tire size so I'll look into it. I think they may make ET's in that size.

12.50's in the 1/4 is a tall order, especially when you haven't made the 1st pass down the track or at least I am unaware if you have. It took me a few dissapointing sessions to learn the sweet spot of when and how to launch to get to 12.70 pass in mine. Take is slow and get some video. I am interested and supportive of this. I would really like to see this thing go, but in the 1st outing it was very dissapointed in mine. Please remember I have made thousands of passes down the straight-we are at the track every weekend participating, so the main learning curve was the combo. We have been hearing about you going to the track many times, I am ready to see it (poke,poke-giving a little hard time).-j :-)

Yeah, I'll be lucky to get a 14.5 the first round. For some reason I thought you had ran a low 12 in the 1/4.

Anyways, I'll probably be coughing up 100 bucks but that's okay cuss it gives me something to shoot for.

I thought the bet was only if either of you reached your mark, before June or so? You both have a tough mark to reach.

You're right. I had a brain fart.

Yes, both of those numbers are tough, the 12.50 of course much more. As James said though, keep running it till you maximize it. The track is great for finding every little trick and adjustment.
