If you use a Cat5 cable then its limited to 100 mbs I thinks. Cat5e is 1000. How long is the cable? At less than 100m weve eeked out over 100 from Cat5. Cat6 has internal seperators so it makes it much faster. This is all assuming the cabke is the weak link. As with anything a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Sometimes the computer is the limiter. Also depends on what file tranfer you do, if youre taking a hard drive file over to remote host, it will
likely be alot slower than you might think.

On our computers when we get them we have to check certain windows settings to make sure we have high speed ethernet for data transfer from our machines. Though the default setting are usually more than adequate for most users.

Also, gotta make sure with cat5 it's using all 8 wires to get the gig speed.

Well boomin was correct can only tune while driving around and must be a windows 10 or better laptop. This desktop setup will not work. I’m telling ya… I’ve about had it with this crap right now. So I will be asking my friends to see if anyone has a windows laptop I can borrow. I only have a crappy Chromebook which uses Google iOS

So another day wasted and 100’ Ethernet cable not even useful… what a disaster
So that’s a $25 Holley data cable and now a $60 Ethernet cable and I can’t use them unless I magically get a windows laptop in the next day or so

Would have been nice to know earlier…. I explained to the tuner the setup I have and was planning to use I even sent him a picture.
Meanwhile the sport trax with the 1/4” too long pushrods still driving Around wonderfully ….. I’m about to just put it in wizard learn mode again and call it done
I am still coughing up crap and I lost my voice about a week ago, so I can only whisper things over the phone. This has been rough

Inverter to use the desktop in the truck? Use the phone to tether the network connection? A USB Bluetooth adapter allows data sharing to the desktop, or a USB dongle with a Ethernet port.

Tuning with Holley ... connect windows laptop to holley in your driveway with wifi connected. Give tuner access to your laptop with their preferred application. Then get short data logs for the tuner. Pull back into the driveway an connect to your wifi. Tuner looks at logs and makes adjustments. You shouldn't need a Hotspot unless your tuner is watching live data.

The original tune should be very close. Just needs a little tweaking for the injectors and new valve train.

WiFi doesn’t reach my driveway and the closest att cell service (my phone) is 2 miles down the road

Or overnite me a laptop or tow this thing to Seattle or… I mean this is a bad Joke right?
Problem is my trailer is broken (needs all new shackles) my excursion lost its transmission after the last trip to Seattle (I made two one to fix t case and second to haul this truck back to Idaho) and hauling my dads 17000 boat and my big truck is running on 7 cylinders and Blew a hub so I have no 4wd and it’s been parked I a ditch since November I have 3’ of snow on everything and temps are below 40 because it’s the middle of winter
I’m out two trips to Seattle and back, an 5.0 engine, a new valvetrain, a gasket set, header gaskets, fluids plus two oil changes, and all this time…. Plus when I test drove it for 200 miles it was running great and never once showed lean… as you can tell I am more then Frustrated and broke… when it rains it pours. I’ll get over it but it might take a bit. Right now I’ve got a truck I can’t start because I’ve moved the 02 sensor and a full plate of my own projects, and now the tuner guy who is the same guy that wrote the last tune and cleared it for a 2000 mile road trip when it went lean and popped the lam off cyl 1 just told me “oh it’s not a laptop? Well then we are done” this is after I’ve been talking to him just about daily for the last two weeks trying to get a tune… **** me running. Welcome to the game…

Ouch. Does Baylee not have laptop?

Sometimes we can do like a hotspot type deal on WiFi to extend the range it wont be high speed but it could work.

410, would you be interested in a pair of microwave antennas for Ethernet in the shop? 8 mile line of sight range.

Baylee has Chromebook
I have starlink in the shop enough to listen to music and watch smart tv
But not enough for my desktop? Could just be the extra 10’ away towards the wall
I know there are boosters and what not but I don’t need it just for this one thing, we are off grid so not really interested in plugging anything else in just to boost the starlink to the other side of the shop
It’s a balancing act

My plan was to drive this truck ti the in town shop and tune it there.. but we Cut-off the wifi at that place because our phones work so well there

I don’t want to start her up since I moved the wb02 sensor to the x pipe.. we were gonna do the first start up together yesterday.

I downloaded his preferred Remote Desktop software and everything, had Ethernet cable. I was all ready to go
Then we rescheduled for today because he ran out of time… so I woke up at 4am and loaded up my topside creeper, drove across town to do an emergency turbo install on my friends truck. The 7.3 turbo I rebuilt 2 months ago seized up?? The wicked wheel was into the housing
I’ve rebuilt about 10 of those stock garrets never ran into this before. Anyways they decided to upgrade and got stage 1 kc ball bearing turbo overnite ($1600 investment) he is in a wheelchair so this truck is his only ride to work. Cannot afford more downtime because his employees were commuting him. So I ran over there had the turbo swapped in 2-3 hours booked back home in time for tuner appointment only to be told desktop no work….

To top things off woke up to cold shop… house was out of propane this am… we burned up 500 gallons this winter just heating my shop. Fun fun I keep telling the wife we need all 800 but money is tight so she only had them fill 500. Today was the day. So propane truck just came and filled us up… at 2.40 a gallon (usually we pay 1.30) plus $90 for urgent call plus $45 for being empty…. $1300 day

My desktop also refused to connect to Verizon hotspot yesterday? Who knows why? Probably just not my week

Eddie is overnite me his laptop I’ll have it Friday or sooner… we will try again

On th e good side of things the new kc turbo is *****in… that superduty is a rocket ship and my buddy has his truck back

Look at that sucker whistle!!

Time for a vacation
just remember. it took me 2 summers to get mine up and running with the terminator, and i still have some bugs but hoping once the different mount for the blower goes on it will solve that. if it was easy, it wouldnt be cool and everyone would be doing it. nothing would stand out, and we all would have the same stuff.
as for that cable, you need that anyway for tuning with a lap top. it amazed me that they can tune while your driving. im used to my sct stuff. why holley doesnt supply that cable is beyond me. also if this is a party pooper, i am learning those 3.5 screens are junk as well, so watch for that. mine started doing funning things just before i parked it for the winter, and i have heard nothing but bad about them on a few different groups i have on fb. but thats also facebook.

Either the network interface card is only 10/100 or possibly the network cable.

Yeah, definitely sounds like something up that connection 410. Doesn't sound like any ammount of CAT cable is going to help with your struggles, but (if the right equipment is used) wired should blow wireless away on speed.

I prefer to provide my own modem when/if possible, but when I have to use theirs I want a modem only and provide my own router. I like having the components separated and serving their own function. I wouldn't be too happy if the ISP crippled the speeds on the wired ports of their modem, and got crippled speeds to my router as a result.

**** me running. Welcome to the game…
Time for a vacation

I do understand the feeling. Experience it too often myself, as do other members I'm sure. Hopefully there is a positive end in sight for all of us and we can take some nice vacations soon.

Heck, maybe we just need to put other stuff on hold and take one anyway to reset and hope things improve as a result. I'm seriously considering taking about a week vacation and going somewhere before I start tearing into the floors in the kitchen. Need to atleast get the current project finished up first though. That would be getting the Ranger tuned and the and F-250 put back together for me.

Nice! Sucks, but very nice. Still on stock turbo myself, but also only around 205k miles. I'm not planning a bigger turbo, but I do have a KC balanced assembly sitting on the shelf to install when I eventually need to pull it and do up pipes (or whatever else). Currently got it drained for a T-stat, new hoses, heater core bypass valve (it's a good thing down here), and coolant swap to ELC. Decided while it's drained and also due for a oil change, I'm going to pull the radiator (for extra room) and install a new LPOP. We talked about the 250 in PMs, but I'v discovered that my HPOP reservior is not draining like thought and LPOP has been found to cause my symptoms at around the 200k mile mark, well it's kind of an ideal time to replace it with all the fluids drained.

Eddie is overnighting his laptop? WOW! That's despiration, and I almost wonder if it wouldn't have been cheaper for him to buy you one and have it delivered. I guess his is already set up with the relevant software and stuff. Hope this tuning session is more successful. FWIW, I'd probably have tried the desktop run off inverter idea. I'm a bit of a computer nerd and will always have atleast one laptop that fit the needs or would go buy one if I didn't. (Honestly I've got a couple that'd do it, and a couple desktops, and pieces to cobble something else if I needed it.) If I were in a pinch I'd definitely try to run a desktop off an inverter. Tuner doesn't need to know if it's a laptop or a desktop.

Speaking of tuning, the tunes for mine were ordered from Lasota yesterday and in my inbox today. Not remote tuning like yours, just emailed and dataloging as necessary. Pulled the upper intake this afternoon when I got home from work and popped the new injectors in. Only about 30 minutes from the time that I parked it from the drive home to the time I started wrenching. It was about 30 degrees out there in the yard, and this was first time I've ever been happy about working on a hot engine. Finish reassembling after work tomorrow, install the Talor wires and Screamin Demon coil packs, and load the tunes.

Question about the PCV grommet. Do you glue them in?

Original PCV grommet was in bad shape, so replaced it when I rebuilt the engine. New grommet looks good, but doesn't fit tight. When I reached back to pull the PCV the grommet came right out with it. I don't think that it is leaking externally. It didn't show anything during all of my smoke checks, even when the 710 cap and pinholes in the dipstick tube were smoking. It would be nice if it fit tighter and stayed put though.

I do silicoln the pcv grommet in place yes
Otherwise they like to pop loose

I have Eddie laptop it arrived at my folks house at 930 this am
Laptop is setup and ready
Hopefully tomorrow am we will have successful startup and tune
Then I will be putting as many mile on it as I can in one day

FYI installing kitchen floors is my idea of a vacation! Hahahahaha yes I’m twisted

FYI installing kitchen floors is my idea of a vacation! Hahahahaha yes I’m twisted
I'm sure many would.

I might not dread it if it were just new flooring. Unfortunately it's soft subflooring that means tearing it down to the studs and rebuilding.

Basically a full kitchen remodel at minimum and will expand as I find the extent of the damage. Plus complete water line replacement. Can't tell that it is leaking yet, but it's polybutylene and well past it's sell by date.

Glad I'm not the only one. Actually my friend John was supposed to be released from the assisted living facility on Wednesday. Tuesday night he couldn't speak without slurring his words so he ended up in the hospital, he admitted to me he doesn't want to go home now so I'm helping my dad replace the floor in the kitchen.

Back on track
Laptop is powered up and sitting next to the truck with data cable plugged into the Holley
WiFi is reaching no problem (insert a tons of cussing and *****ing and moving of cables and router)
Had it all setup for this am and then was told the tuner guy is at a funeral and will be back on the office later???
So I wait

I’m renaming this truck “project patience”

Not enough bandwidth in e shop for him to connect
Hits keep on coming
Gonna go see how it runs on the current tune right now
He ran me through how to check the timing, basically need to verify the Holley timing matches what shows on the balancer with a timing light
I haven’t owned a timing light since I had a 2.9l about 32 years ago
So off to harbor freight i go
