Betty's "I want to be a mule" progress log thread

I would love me to see a grease fitting at the very top( and bottom) of shock mount, and a bearing with grease hole which lines up to fitting grease passage hole in the shock mount.

bingo, me too!
our Polaris ranger uses aftermarket control arms with the com bearings at top and bottom they wear out so quickly!
When buying steel com bearings from granger I found some greaseable ones with holes in the race to allow grease in....I am hoping to add zerks at that location
Spraying them externally with silicon lube every chance I get is not working they still wear out so quickly!
I even modified our rig to use rzr turbo spindle pins.......about double the size of the OEM stuff ranger came with ($500 upgrade, custom machine work) still the com bearings have a short life, the lube just gets washed away and replaced with silt. Running 30" mud tires (stock 26) and snow tracks in winter does not help (Leverage, poor little polaris parts)
grease zerk to impregnate and a external neoprene or rubber boot to protect, that is my plan

@gmanpaint the spherical bearings were working I guess, it's just that they made quite a bit of noise, every time the temps dropped from whatever they were. Sure a can of spray lube killed it for a bit but the issue usually happened early am when Im trying to get somewhere.

It is a very embarrassing sound also. Not like I'm in the habit of shock bearing maintenance every morning but I guess I need to add it to the morning chores
Shock bearing noises so loud it is embarrasing? Thats a new one to me. Never had that issue, or even know what it would sound like, other then letting my imagination guess. Been Torsion bar free since 2010 and yet to experience that. Now watch, the mere mention of it, and it will happen! 🤣

Well today Betty got some LEDs in the cluster backlighting.

She also got a broken instrument bezel and prinindle in the process.

Tried putting LEDs in rear seat dome, one switch was broken and spot bulbs didn't want to come out. Also broken trying to pull out reflector. Bad day for ol gal

I've yet to come across any interior light that was "easy" to repair or replace. I'd love to get LEDs in LilEddie, but almost afraid to try!

Ok, you're hired. Takes a contortionist to do them, I ain't all that

Everything in evils I switched to LED years ago. Some, map, cruise switches, the switches in the radio bezel, and doors as well as the bulb for the head light switch. I had it in the message center but took that out because nothing will work for it again. Also all switch lights were converted from green to blue

believe they were 912s? or what was used in the dome, at least. going off memory here, looking at a photo.

I'd like to do green spot LEDs somehow, keeping all green because it's the stealthiest ( if that's a word) lighting color. Green light doesn't travel as far at night.

I guess I'll have to take up the challenge and get to work on the interior lights. Though I'm not so energetic that I'm going to do the dash lights, steering wheel lights, or other "button" lights. Would like to get LEDs in the Puddle lights though.

How about one of the puddle light LED kits available on eBay? I ordered one for a late MKZ to adapt to some old Continental mirrors that I have fitted to my Mark VII. I'm talking about the puddle lights which display an image on the ground, like the word Ford, Lincoln etc, and/or an emblem. I like those in concept, but picking one that's an ideal color, plus the image, makes it harder. For the Explorer, you would have to modify the outer plastic cover part, to merge with some other application(same part), for the aftermarket light kit.

I have no idea what other mirror might be close to the Explorer "puddle light cover piece", but here's the one I ordered for my Lincoln;

if i had em, i would put them in before sending them down to you. i only have white and blue LED's and they are not bulbs, they are individual LED's. not sure where you bought yours but i know this site is good LED Lights, Bulbs & LED Lighting Accessories | Super Bright LEDs
most will say just get from ebay, but you will get what you pay for.

btw, its a real old pic, but this is what evil looks like with blue LED's and white dome lights

matches the flames well!!!

Ok, this time I will slow down, no rush.

Thanks to @vroomzoomboom , wow, look what he sent me all the way from Canada!

Just gotta cut a hole in gauge bezel for my trans fan switch. Old one had rear sensor switch, I used that location for the fan switch. I'll probably cut it out with a solder iron.
Got a couple of house things to wrap up , then I can focus on this.
