BFG A/T KO's in ice & snow opinions

Anyone running these tires in ice and snow? I know they are great off road tires but I need something that performs well on compact snow and ice as well as off road. Unfortunatly they are sometimes mutually exclusive. I've been running Les Schwab TXR's for years (those of you in the west know what I'm talking about) but thought maybe Id try something different. Costco has the A/T KO's 31x10.5 mounted, balanced, free lifetime rotate & balance for $109.00 apiece. Any opinions appreciated.

As much as i feel that BFGs are overrated the AT/KO's are good in winter conditions.

My dad has sworn by wild country tires for years in the deep Idaho snow. I went with the At ko out here in Seattle. I have been all over up in the hills this year, and there's getting to be a lot of snow. no issues yet. Seem good on ice too

I had them and they were Great in Snow. I switched to M/T now just cause they were bigger.

I've had no problems with mine on ice and snow. I'm happy with them.

I hated the KO's for everything EXCEPT snow.

They perform awesome in the snow.

There is no tire that does well on ice, some do better than others, but ice is ice man.
Hopefully the ice has some snow on top of it

Studded tires or walnut sheel tires are the only good tires for ice.......maybe blizzak

Well, I think I'm going to get the Les Schwab Wild Country XTX instead of the BFG AT K/O's. Mostly because I have an account at Les Schwab so I dont have to fork over the cash up front. Which wasnt a big deal when I originally started looking at new tires, but because of a small "accident" I had yesterday in the snow I am now forced to either buy 2 new factory rims or 4 new aftermarket rims. I slid off the road into a ditch doing about 40 and it completely blew one tire off the rim and severly damaged the other. I had to drive about 100 feet with no tire on the rim in order to get out of the ditch, and consequenntly ruined that rim as well. If had bought some decent tires already instead of procrastinating then I probably would have slid off the road. Oh well..................

get aftermarket rims theyre cheaper. Id say go with Mickey Thompson Classic II. You can buy them off of www.summitracing.com About $99 each and its free shipping.

The BFG AT/KOs have my vote and I'm still running them.
Note: IMHO, The 31s handle the snow a lot better than the 275s did.

Costco won't mount those because it's an Explorer, and they are not the stock size. Believe me, I tried that already at two different Costco stores. (I also tried that at Les Schwab - same story). But they might sell you just the tires, and you could get them mounted at some ma & pa tire shop.

Just bring your tires to costco and leave the truck on jacks at home.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes you are correct they wont put 31x10.5's on my stock ECP. However, they told me just bring in the rims and they will mount whatever I want,no questions asked. BUT I'm not buying those anyways for the reasons listed above. Thanks for the heads up though!!!!

Hey Gonzo, didnt see you were so close in E-Berg. The Costco in Wenatchee told me bring in rims and they will mount whatever you want, but if still on the vehicle will only mount OEM size and load rating. BUT you have a great Les Schwab in Eberg who has gone out of their way more than once to help me out (I also have a ranch up the Teanaway Valley) and those guys are great. Hey lets hook up some time and do some wheelin, not too many people in NCW to hook up with!!!

2000waexplorer, I'd like to go wheelin some time, but my tires aren't that great so I couldn't do anything too tough. Right now I have the Goodyear wrangler rts. About all they are good for is pavement. They absolutely suck in the snow/ice. I would love to get some bfg at's for that price. That's a good idea - just bring in the rims to costco. What sort of mods have you done to your ex?

looking at ath AT KO's, they have a ton more snipes, even compared to my older 31's. and of course have a deep thread and a big tires help in snow as well.

THE BFG AT/KO is the only way to go. I love them in the ice and snow. You will never tough a TXR again after running any of the BFG line. Keep in mind nothing will replace a studded tire on the ice but the AT/KO is a great all around tire.

Oh, i almost hate to bring this up, but I think the Revo's are better in the snow, i mean doens't tirerack rate the Revo and the BFG's one and two, in that order? I went with BFG's cause they were the only tires available in my size, and I think in some off-road conditions they're better, but for snow, the Revo's i'm sure might even be better.
