I am wondering what a SAS is going to run me. I know it all depends on cost of parts, and how much work I do myself vs having it done. I am just looking at cost. please post how much you have spent and how much you have done or have had done.

I'm right at 7 grand. and the axles are still sitting in my garage, while the xplorer is stored at work. i need some tubing and i'll have all the materials to finish the project. time and winter are my worst enemies.

please note that i'm doing dana60's that are built out with with all upgraded components. not really a budget build. but i only want to do this once.

$5k-ish with all work done myself.

Maybe 3k, did everything myself.

You might want to have people specify if the price includes tires/wheels.

edit: and if their trucks are still street legal

street legal? where?

because of lift laws?
Lift laws are rare around these parts...

I have researched SAS, I plan $3500-4000 just for the dana 44 to be rebuilt, locked, new u joints, ball joints, bearings, brakes, etc....

The rest I do myself for $500 or so using coils
Of course I want to do another $2000 using coilovers

Some states are different than others. I was thinking more if they went to full hydro steering or didn't keep abs or speedo. So not necessarily "illlegal" (except for the full hydro) but not exactly road friendly.

I dont think full hydro is legal in any state... good point!

If youve got connections you can get it done for less than 1500...lol

Its like weld on beadlocks... not illegal its simply not DOT approved. Some strict states check for certain DOT items some dont. :)

I have a 1st Gen, but my SAS was in the neighborhood of $12K. This was for the front and rear and I had a shop do the removal and install of the axles.
This included 5x 36"Irok Radials (including spare), 12x10 steels, lockers front and rear (front twice),rebuild kits for front and rear,4.88 gears (shop did the gear install), chromoly axle shafts for D44, rear DS extension, CAGE heimed radius arms, and a lot more doodads. I went $4K over budget.

The only work I did myself was stripping the axles off the bronco, tear down the D44 and 9", clean everything to bare metal, primed and paint axles, rebuild ALL new axle parts from bearings to seals to ball joints, Drum brakes, yada yada yada....

I priced everything out for going full width D44 and 9 or 8.8 radius arm front and 3 linking the rear with coilovers (F-O-A most cost effective and I'm not prerunning it) doing all the work myself and being patient using craigslist and shopping around I could get it done for just over 3k.

That was assuming re-gearing myself, spool in the rear, aussie up front, used tires off craigslist (I see 38-35s all the time for $500 for a set). It also assumes I can buy a solid axle bronco for about $500, which is pretty easy since I wouldn't care about the engine/trans.
