I am hoping to stir some intrest in a late fall run to the George Washington National Forest, in November. I was up in the forest last weekend doing some recon. I was alone and in my wife's X so I only checked out the beginning and end of the trail. I have not run this trail. I did run into a few X-terra guys (31 to 35s) and they said the trail was not to difficult, even with lots of recent rain. There are a couple stream crossings 1 to 2-feet depending on the rainfall. I believe that stockers can run this trail, but may scrape a little and the bottom and sides.

Anybody done this trail? It runs from near Massies Mill on Rt 56 to Crabtree Meadows. There is trailside and campground camping and cabins available near Crabtree Falls. This trail is about 45-minutes south of Charlottesville of State Route 56.

never done the trail, but might be interested in going

Well, it is November now and I have seen much intrest. I am thinking maybe black Friday or the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Ready

You can count me in for either the ranger, the explorer, a dirt bike or all of the above. $%^%^$ if the creeks are too high i will even bring a kayak or two. keep me posted as you come closer to a date so i can make sure jim is off work.

sorry to miss you on the fluvanna stuff...... lotsa mud ... still dropping orange turds everywhere even after washing it 3 times. still didnt get to winch it out yet, but got close once.

Saturday is looking better weather wise.

It is 30 to 60-minutes from Charlottesville. I would estimate 3 to 4-hours to trail head.

Hey unclemeat, I'm probably not going to make it to this run because I dont have my tow-rig yet.
But for future runs, about how far is the trailhead from the DC area?

As I said, it is about 30-60 minutes south west of Charlottesville. I think that you can get to Charlottesville down 29 in about 2-hours.

Shoe Creek trail basically ends (or begins) at the top of Crabtree falls. It is a very popular camping location, year round.

You are also close to Crozet (rock crawling for all levels).

aww,,,,,,,,, i'm getting mine soon to be able to run w/ you all. Boomings going to fix mine to run w/ the big dogs. Maybe during the winter or spring time I can catch up w/ you all.

Creekin

Ok meat

Set a time and place to meat. call me if you want some ideas on where to meeet up there, i have a few ideas. We are off (or at least i can work around the trip) entire weekend. Front winch receiver is being installed on the ranger today. We will bring em both. smashed the ranger again last weekend so it looks like body damage isnt a big problem i will just try to continue hitting trees only on the passenger side.

Where and what time do you plan on meeting? What are the plans for the day? I take it your gonna run Shoe Creek from Crabtree Falls down to Alhambra and back up.

I know I don't have to remind you guys since you are all seasoned professionals, but make sure you take plenty of pics :D

Spike, I think that we should leave town around 7or 8. If it is just us we can leave from my house, or the park and ride lot on gaskins rd. Sheila is going as well.

Mark, I have not run the trail in a long time, so I dont know exactly what to expect. But yes I am think we will begin at cratree I do not know if we will double back or not. I would expect to get to the parking lot at crabtree around 10 to 11.

Izwack, I'll take my carmera, but I am photographicaly challenged. My wife is going and she is good at taking pics.

I'm in... try to leave here around 6, so I should be there by about 10. My phone usually looses service somewhere on 56, but the number is 757 544 0216.

Anyone else from Tidewater area going? I'll be running 460-29-151/56.

its too early.. i woke up and forgot why i was getting up so early

Mark,

We are planning to be at the parking lot right around 10:00 AM.

My cell is 804 901-2176. We will channel 1 on the CB. I will try to call you a little after 6.

Sounds good, I plan to head out right about 6. I was having trouble with my cb last time I used it... I could receive just fine, but I couldn't transmit. I got a new cable I'll bring b/c my old one was starting to come part at the antenna

Spikes phone is 804 512-3256. He has a different service so his may work better than mine.
