Ok so 2 maybe 3. And maybe just 1 if because if that Black Explorer on 35's gets sold, then i'm **** out of luck!

And apparently that explorer has an electrical short somewhere...one thing after another! Ah well, that's love I guess.

I think Will is planning on coming if he gets his trans fixed in time. And hopefully RockRanger will be able to join us too.

That makes 4 (maybe). I'm going to PM Unclemeat and see if he's interested.

Will, can you post up the google maps coordinates of where we should meet up? I don't know the area well at all.

Nice sounds like a plan.

So since I'm in san Diego at the moment it makes getting va gps coordinates difficult, but this is the address for exactly where you pull off of 56(crabtree falls hwy) to get to trails or waterfall...
I still intend on coming though next week Will be crazy... I could have had it done this week but I hate to be 2500+miles away if there is a issue or whatever...

10636 Crabtree Falls Hwy, George Washington National Forest, Massies Mill, VA 22976

Link is to Google maps of the spot...

Tools I will have on board!:

Air Compressor
Cordless Impact
Assorted sockets
Assorted Wrenches
Dremel
Hammers
Jack/Jack Stands
Shovel
Pieces of wood
...and probably some random other stuffs

...I learned my lesson the hard way last time with no dremel! At least we had that hacksaw!

I'll bring my hitch mounted vise and I think we'll have it all covered, lol.

now you need to put in a inverter to run that dremel.i run the 4000watt from harbor freight and has worked good for little over a $100;)

Funny about that. I do have an inverter with plugs wired to the hatch area. So just plug and play. Mine is only 2000 watts though :(

Ever tried running a 120V mig off of that inverter?

Guess you didnt see my post in my thread.just bought a 120v 90amp mig couple weeks ago just for that reason;) what i welded my exhaust up with, but to answer no i havent tried yet because my batties was to low from sitting to long and my charger is only 2 amps so it takes forever to charge, had it on there all day and only got to 10v;( my welder has two settings low and high,i know low will work but high pulls right at 15amps so need to test that,it should work but that first spike worries me

cool. Harbor Freight mig? I got one a couple of months ago and modified it to put out DC instead of AC, also installed a capacitor and a better ground clamp. All in all was like 60-75 bucks in parts and wiring. Now the arc is really smooth and I get much better results. Was working on a thread about it but I got distracted and haven't finished.

Yep thier $100 one.why dc? You welding aluminum or stainless? I dont know much about welding.my dad said something asked if mine was dc,he just got a tig and think he said its dc but he's setting it up for aluminum and stainless.thats what im using for my intake manifold.

Because Flux core wire is designed to run best with DC current. The harbor freight ones don't have the rectifier to change the output from the transformer from AC to DC. It still works but there was a huge difference in the smoothness of the arc and the strength of my welds when I converted it to DC. You want the gun (or wire, depending on how you look at it) to be negative and the clamp to be positive, also known as DCEN (DC, electrode negative) polarity.

Really all I weld is mild steel but I did get a neat little inverter welder a short while ago that will do stick or TIG. Mainly I bought it to learn stick but I figure I can try TIG later on.

I don't know if you can weld aluminum with a DC TIG (thought I read that somewhere) but I might be wrong.

Here's a good thread on how to do the DC conversion, I used all the same parts and it works great:

Gotca.i hate this flux wire, real messy, but im putting down so pretty nice beads now.took me awile to pick it up though. You can weld aluminumwith a mig but have to have a special gun, aluminum is thicker and softer so it wont feed right.i have three welders so,gas tig for aluminum and stainless,arc/stick for thick metal and this mig for mild steel.mig is by far the easiest to use but wish it was gas also but main reason i didnt buy gas is so i could use it in my truck and dont have to get the tanks checked/ inspected.im thinking now i may just have to run the old SC till i can afford the new p+p($1240) so i can make some of these trips!!

Yeah it was a lot messier for me too when I was starting. After this conversion though I don't get a whole lot of spatter...just some real small little BB's that brush off pretty easy. Slag seems to come off much easier too.

I agree about the mig being a lot easier...I'm practicing stick a lot to try and get better with it.
