So, what was the subject of this thread... I don't know, but does anyone in the South have a need for a late Trans Am, some special edition a friend of mine has? He'd sell it cheap, some unknown issue it has(low mileage).

CDW6212R - It's about me trying to make a 4.0 SOHC explorer hang with the big dogs. And I have 2 goals, get 210 to the rears, and 14's (High) with the N/A part of this all. I'm not sure I'll make either of them but I'm still trying. Once that's completed, then I'm going to stepup to the plate and do a STS turbo, just like James has (Jah81592).

Then I'm going to drive up to where Robert lives (Rocket) and smoke his butt.

Hahehe

Oh, and if Troll ever comes back in here, I'm gonna smoke hime too!

PS - Only joking about smoking anyone else. I'll probably never be that fast....

The bottom line is I want a faster X. Something that I can bring to the track and really turn some heads. Then after people see my truck go down the track, they'll be even more suprised with the V6 sitting under the hood.

I'm gonna have to have a lot more power for that to happen. I'm stuck trying to finish a house project and have to wait until then to go further. (Atleast the bigger mods like a turbo) I"ve already got in trouble by the old lady once, so we made a deal. I finish the house, then I can get the turbo!!!

How did you attach the column pod? I have the same one (autometer) and it wants me to tape/drill into the stock shroud, but it's just not big enough. If I take off the stock shroud and put the replacement in, it's a perfect fit, but it doesn't have the holes to attach using factory bolts.

I'm still looking for a solution to this as well. With this on over the top of the old one, it rubs when using the tilt. So you say this thing will fit perfect with the old one removed? I'll be working on this more this week. I'll let you know what I figure out.

Yeah, it's like they made it to be a replacement, but forgot to add some mounting points, and just said f' it and made it anyways. My plan is to get a stock shroud, and cut it off all the way up to the mounting points for the screws, and glue that to the inside of the autometer piece, and hopefully it will look stock.

I think i like your gauge better. How much was that one? You got a link?

Jake,
That guage costs around $220.00 alone! I carry them but most people are looking at a cheap alternative.-jh

Okay - this one will work.

I've decided to make a few short term goals that will help me reach the long term goal. The first short term goal, is to loose 200 + pounds, with out looking stupid (Not taking the rear door off; sorry, still needs to be street able, and look good). I think I've figured out how to get almost 200 more pounds off it, but any suggestions might be helpful. What do you think?

au01st - I do think the gauge looks much better than mine, and has more features. I'll probably get one in the future, but this one will work for what I'm trying to accomplish.

200 lb drop translates into a 2 hp gain correct? Ways you can drop is get rid of spare tire, running boards, roof rack, spare jack, fog lights, carpet in the trunk, throw down carpet mats. Extreme measure could be cut off tail pipe and dump muffler, add rear roll pan, carbon hood, smaller/lighter wheels, rear seats (would look funny in an SUV)

I've calculated more like 8 HP. There's a formula in this thread somewhere. Although, It would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

I've done all that weight reduction, plus some. I'm looking even deeper than this. Like the brackets holding things in place. Now, I know not to go cutting on something that is load bearing, but I think there's ways to lighten up the load. It sounds like a lot of work for nothing but I think it can't hurt, and I like doing things like this.

You know that big bracket behind the rear bumper? Well, I'm thinking about this one......I've already got rid of the bracket holding the spare tire in place, the wire and pulley for the spare...so on and so forth. Heck, i even took out the rear winsheild wiper motor, which wasn't very heavy, but you can see what I've thought about. God forbid anyone rear ending me.

I like it.

I could just make it remote control. I would lose 200 pounds there? :)
