I have never dragged anyone in my Explorer until the other day. I couldn't resist in this case.
It was a 4-lane street, and I was in the lane nearest the side of the road, stopped at a stoplight. So this half-ratted-out Firebird (88-92 era) comes up behind me. Just before he gets to the intersection, he quickly pulls into the lane next to me. Now, keep in mind, this 4-lane road turns to 2-lane about 3 blocks ahead, and I was in the proper lane. The lane the Firebird was in would require him to merge into my lane...
I immediately thought this guy was in a hurry and would try to rush in front of me to merge, given how he came up behind me and whipped it quickly into the lane next to me (as if I was in his way). So the light turned, and we both nailed it. Needless to say, it was funny. We didn't get past 50 mph but my Explorer beat him off the line and also opened distance the whole way. I beat him by 1/2 a car length, and I don't know if that's good or not. I was laughing about that kill though.
Anyway, I suspect he had a p.o.s. that wasn't running right, because there's no way a 4200 lb Explorer (even a modded one) should beat a Firebird. His exhaust was almost dragging the ground, if that's any indication of the running quality of that Firebird.
