Ask them to bring out the Bronco concept so we can look it over. . .and then set them straight on how it really should be built.

"ditto"

Is that really all you are going to say???

How about asking them why they can't build a automatic transmission that works for more than 50,000 miles on average????

And tell them to use the same bellhousing bolt pattern across the truck lines so you can interchange trannies. Also make the tcases use the standard 6 bolt and eather a 23 or 27 spline shaft so tcases could be swapped between makes and models. Where is the factory rear locker like all the other manufacturers offer. Also where is the clutch switch overide like toyota has been offering for years so I dont have to wire my own up.

But I agree the most on why cant they build a good auto tranny.

Not sure about the tranny issues as that I luckily haven't had to confront that one yet... but I agree that they can ride along and hang out...observe how much retrofitting and/or additional mods are needed to make one of their 'out-of-the-box' SUVs actually somewhat capable... and I my truck certainly can't hang with the Taco TRDs or nicer Nissan Frontiers... so an ABSOLUTE ditto on the question to them; where is the rear locker that Ford doesn't offer, but most other makes do?

I'll be the limiter/closest to stock outta the group for sure, do mostly to johnstones mention of the wheelbase issue.... :D

Come on the average has to be more then 50K, most auto's I have seen with problems have over 100K on them.

but yeah using the weak tranny in the heavy 4x4 = bad idea, heck putting the 2.9L inthe 4x4 BII was a bad idea, and that TFI module, well we won't go there. But they are not the only auto maker with these types of issues.

Asking these types of questions and putting the Ford techs on the spot would give us great feedback and be fun, but we are celebrating 10 years of this forum this year, and well if they did everything that Chevy, Jeep, and Yota did then why would we need to build them up ourselves?

Maybe we should start a car company? hahahaha

I was talking about all Ford products and their auto transmissions. Our patrol cars for the 2003 model were going through transmissions every 10,000 miles on average. Now that just sucks. :p

Operator Error maybe ???? :D :p

I think it would be great to have some people from ford show up and see what some of the people that have bought there trucks are doing with them. Maybe they can get some ideas from us about changes in future trucks. Look at what Nissan has done with the Extera. Toss a first aid kit and a cool looking roof rack on the explorer and they are about the same thing. Nissan has just done a better job advertising it to active lifestyle people.

It would atleast show an effort that they care about the constomers and what they like and dont like.

The main reason why I bought my 2004 chevy instead of a ford was cause you cant buy a 1/2 ton v8 5 speed from ford and I wasnt going to buy an auto from ford so they lost a sale.

Actually, it's you can't get the 5.4 with a 5speed in the F150.. If I could of, I probably would of kept the F150 and not moved to the F250.

The 4.6 can be bought with a beefed up but still wimpy version of the Mazda 5speed..

Actually, that's supposedly why they joined us on the prior trips. Then afterwards they put the IRS on to match the IFS  ...... honestly, what happened (I'm sure) is that they got lots of great ideas from us, but then figured out that we're maybe .0001% of the Explorer owners and they could make a lot more money catering to the bazillion soccer moms.

You'd think though that after seeing the success of the Rubicon Jeep and other vehicles, that Ford would at least experiment with some sort of offroad - worthy edition and see what happens. Unfortunately, I'm fairly convinced by now that that will never happen. :(

I never considered the the 4.6 when looking I wouldnt have bought one with that motor anyway.

Anyay back on moab Tracy made us reservations somewhere in town I cant remember which hotel it is at.

It sure is quite in here. :o

I dont want to sign up and take a spot for someone who will be driving if I dont have to.
Nate

Just head up there. Try to make arrangements for an open passenger seat ahead of time.

Anyone wanna see my list of things to do on the truck before Moab?
It's not even funny.
The BII is in dire need of some TLC, things I have been putting off for years...

I think Ford Explorer has still out sold the Jeep Wrangler/Rubi?Unlimited and Xterra?? so I am not sure they have lost too much of the market by not making the "off road" pacakge vehicle.

Long live the live axle Ranger 4x4! hahahaha it's about all they got once the Sport Trac goes IRS in 07. Maybe we need to start making some beefy lifts for the Escape like Jeep has for the Liberty? Ouch, I'd take the Jeep anyday.

They can look at my BII all they want, might even be able to give them a few "pointers" hahahaha yeah right.....

I'm not sure I'll be able to make it now. Since I broke my thumb over Thanksgiving weekend it got my schedule all messed up. I think I'll be in Japan for Moab, but I'm trying like hell to make it down with my truck this year.
