Last week I picked up some AZ shackles and some extra bolts. I finally got around to doing it today. Fortunately, it only took some straining and wierd looks from my neighbors at my antics to get the shackle bolts off. I was also able to use the floor jack between the spring and frame to get the new shackles to line up...that was interesting. On to the pics :D

Stock shackles are always fun :(

But now there gonna be a breeze when you need to remove them next time.

I can see that rig flexing all over Smorr in my head right now...lol

I am still keeping an eye out for some 31's. Craigslist has some Mud terrains for $450 with 50% tread. Unfortunately, that is still out of my price range. If I can't make it with 31's will my current tires handle...anything??

Hmm, $450 seems awful steep for a half life set of of 31".

Stock tires will be no good out there, sorry.

Not sure if you have tried this site or not, but you can custom set the radius search to include every city CL add inside that radius. I use it all the time, it really is a time saver and broadens your search area. I set mine for 500 miles. I can do that round trip in a single day if what I am looking for is worth it.

Thanks for the link! I already can see some new avenues opening up. I really appreciate the effort you are taking on this trip to make it all come together. :D:thumbsup:

For $450 you can pretty much get a set of treadwright's that perform really well, just watch craigslist like a hawk thats where my old set of 31's came from. $100 for 2 with 75% and 2 with 50%, lets just say I snagged those within 20 minutes of the guy listing them.

I was originally looking at treadwrights, but I couldn't get the order form to work right to check shipping cost. :dunno:

Also, just for fun, I checked out my ride height: 20" from flat surface to bottom of front bumper, 6.5" from top of tire to bottom of front fender, 6" from tire to fender on the rear.

Stock setup was 5" for the rear and at least 4" for the front. (Guesstament only on the fronts. All I noticed was that using the 2wd springs lifted the front end a LOT and it was originally lower than the rear.)

I think the shipping on mine ended up around $20 or so per tire, can't remember exact amount.

Got my eyes out for new tires also, following on what tires you go with MrQ so I can bum ideas. Red Flyer looking good!

Well, they go for $150/pc new. They are the XMT so they have more aggressive lugs/pattern the reg buckshot does. Maxxis puts out a pretty good tire. As long as they are not dry rotted, I would go for them.

They have a tread depth of 20/32 new and are a 6 ply tire. with an actual height of 30.28"

Some say they are too noisy, but hey, it's a MT, whaddya expect?...lol

Good deal, He said there were on the jeep sitting in a barn for quite a while? I would be sure to check for rotting where the tires made contact with the ground as gmanpaint said.

Very sweet, I love that it was 2wd and now 4wd, hope to take you and it down some trails at Smorr, if greg can follow me then Im sure you can ;)

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Bronco2guy, It's almost there. It's gonna take me about another $300 to finish it up. I already have at least 40 hours in the conversion so far. 20+ hours throwing in the front end (90% of that was getting that stupid PITA 2wd drop bracket out ) and 17+ in the transmission rebuild. I still have to throw in the transmission and swap out the rear axle for a LS 3.73 to match the front gears. Thanks to Kris Guilbeaux who's how-to showed me that this was all possible.

If I get this thing on the trail in July it will have a been a full year since I started this...man, time flies by so quickly.

Transmission is in and it runs!!

Well, it won't shift into 4th or OD...because the cable for the VSS is too short. The PCM requires that signal to engage and disengage the solenoids for those shifts. Other than that it runs well.
