New 5.0L Headers are HERE!

On a side note:

Took the exhaust completely off for a couple runs: 205RWHP / 226RWTQ

Something is wrong with my sheeot and it needs to be figured out. Plugs, wires, vacuum, rockers, blah blah blah. :smoke:

I would punch myself in the balls if I spent 600$ and gained 8 hp and 7 Ft-lbs. Good thing you got hooked up.

Have you done your fuel filter lately? also maybe try cleaning your MAF..

I think I will be keeping my FMS ones

Well, yeah. It wouldn't have been worth my money to go from FMS headers to these ones. But think about going from stock manifolds to the Torque Monster ones. These numbers would probably be a lot different.

I'm starting to have a great relationship with the dyno guy (I come in about once a week now, and bring my friends and their Mustangs) so we're working on an exhaust setup right now. I think I'm still going with Magnaflow, but it will be nice to be able to know just what the system is doing for me. In the next couple weeks I am going to go completely through the engine system, checking vac, compression, fuel pressure. Changing plugs and wires, getting those damn heat shields cause I am all over the place.

I know I should be in the upper 200s in HP and well above 300 ft-lbs. It's just finding it. Might have to get the chip reburned too.

Here is a video of four of my runs. Two with the exhaust on, and the last two with nothing past the cats.

Couple questions to help find out what is wrong with your combo:

1- what was your A/F ratio across the board?
2- How did you set the preload on your lifters when you installed the RR's
3- Is the cam installed straight up?
4- Last resort would be to run a compression and leak down test

1) With the FMS headers it was very flat at 14.2 - 15.2
With the new headers it's still flat at 15 even

2) I set the lifters to zero lash and tightend to 17ft lbs

3) Straight up

4) I did a compression check right after the cam install and found all the cylinders to be even.

Good call on running it unrestricted - unless your CATs are blocked. I'd add an exhaust backpressure test to your list. Are these cats from the 96 chassis or the 99? Has the motor ever run rich, to your knowledge?

I like the answers to 3&4.

You may have the right preload on the lifters. I cant tell for sure. I had my motor on my Mustang torn town about once a week for a year and I used to know exactly how to get .060 of preload, but that was a few years ago and I cant remember to save my life right now exactly how to do it. As long as you have .060 - .100 of preload you should be ok.

That A/F ratio is lean! I'm sure you know this but that is way too lean. 12.5-13.0 is where you need to be. I think this is your problem here.

Cats are from the '99.. along with the o2s. I think the fuel filter could be from the '96.. but I did change it about 10-15k before the swap. So it's not 144k old.

As far as running lean.. I talked to Brian about reburning my chip. Which I will do after I check the fuel pressure and whatnot.

Hey section, I'm willing and eager to buy a set now and help with dyno- will do a before and after for stock to the big tubes. Gnawing at the chance now; just let me know.

I hope you haven't been running with this A/F ratio for too long. If it has been like this for a while I would find it hard to believe that your exhaust valves, head gasket and possibly pistons haven't suffered severely from detonation. You have got to have some extrememly high exhaust temps. Are your O2 sensors fairly new? Do you have the stock fuel pump? BTW anyone know what the stock X fuel pump is rated at?

180lph. If anything, I've been running this A/F since I got the Apen chip in... bout January. I should have pulled the chip out at the dyno and saw what that did! :banghead:

Stock fuel pump is 180 lph! Woohoo thats one less thing I'll have to change when I drop the 347 in next month. I can't believe they put a measly 88lph in the GT's.

Anywho, you may want to check your FP regulator or throw a gauge on there and see if it drops in the upper rpms.

Stock is not 180 unless you guys know something i dont... ??? I thought section's 180 was aftermarket...

Do I not know what I am talking about? I had that written down on my stock spec sheet.

I dunno..... is it 180? News to me....

I thought it was more like 90 or so.

Todd to the rescue. I have no idea. That's just what I wrote down in my specs .txt file. I got it from somewhere! :D

Anyway, so I'm going from a 90lph to a 255lph pump?!

Make sure you get the Walbro 255 HP pump. I cannot remember the part number, but they have two 255 pumps. I have it on my truck. NO issues at all. (I assume you have return line fuel system, not returnless?
