The stock explorer fuel pump is 90lph.

Section earlier in the posts I mentioned you should try it without the chip. I've had so many chips hurt performance it wasn't funny. I tried 5 different chips in my SHO and ended up having them burn me one that only adjusted transmission settings because nothing was ever right with the engine programs... While the 5.0 is obviously a little more common, maybe the specific EEC you have dosn't work well with chips?

How did the dyno chart look for midrange power? vs peak power.

If you have an adjustable FPR you could do a "Bandaid fix" and bump up the fuel pressure or take the vacume line off the stock regulator and that will dump max fuel in for the stock FPR.

Thanks for the honest review and dyno numbers for the headers.

How did they fit? do they come close to much in your engine compartment? Will the fit be too close in a stock (non body-lift) explorer?

What were the RPM's that the HP/TQ recorded at?

Thanks
-B

Matt.. the graph of the old headers is pretty much identical to the new ones. :D It makes about 150HP at 3,500rpm and then starts to flat out from 4500 all the way to 5500 at about 200HP.

Oversquare: I'll get some pictures of the headers in the bay tomorrow. I'm the second Explorer with these installed on, and the first was bone stock. So it is possible to get them in with no BL. :D

Bob emailed me and told me their base Explorer made 157.7HP (which is exactly what Darkfox made with his). So I guess 40rwhp is horrible for the $ I've spent on mods.

What was the torqu on the stock engine with/without headers?

Section send a set of those bad boys my way and we will see what they can make on a blown truck.

If now three people have received bum numbers in the (I can't believe it) 160hp range with these V8s - WHAT IS GOING ON?

And Mike.... you can't sell that charger!! :smoke:

I guess we'll have to see what happends after you get a decent exhaust. I remember on my stang I had a stock H-pipe when I did my headers and my car felt alot slower.

I threw on an offroad X-pipe and felt like I'd added a small nitrous system :)

Here are some upclose engine bay pics:

Passenger side, upper shock mount.

It comes fairly close to the shock mount. Not too close though! :D

Excuse the zipties!

I know I should be in the upper 200s in HP and well above 300 ft-lbs. It's just finding it.

it's that slushbox! get a T5 in there then see what happens! ;)

Those photos look awesome - but I worry about heat. Would it be better to wrap the headers, or wrap everything around them?

How's plug access? Looks like the stock wireset works, but a custom set might be best.

Driver's side

Here are some closeups of the only real tight spots I have (cept steering) on the driver's side. With or without the BL, this is going to be your engine-bay-friendly side. Its the heater box dealio on the other side that has be wondering. I'll see if I can get some pics from Bob of his installed on the stocker.

Here is the header to shifter cable clearance (the cable can be moved to the driver's side more) and the header to valve cover clearance.

The plug access is still butter. They're all just as easy to get to (if that damn spark plug socket would stay on the damn extension! ^&%!$ ). Sorry. But yeah, I'm going to those Taylor wires (stock configuration is fine) but I'm getting a roll of the heat sleeve junk and will be going most of the way up the side of the block. Ya know? :smoke:

Not sure about header wrap. The heater box dealio already has a heat shield around it. I'm interested to know what's going to happen over there cause I can see my BL coming out in the next couple months.

Me too... as I am not loosing A/C. Good news on the rest.

NEVER WRAP HEADERS.

That crap is for racers who change motors/headers etc often. It will eat up a set of headers in no time.... and that's not something you want on a high dollar set of headers. It will cause corrosion on even the various ceramic coatings... it just takes a little longer.

There you go then put your stock shackles back on with 2'' blocks, take out the tortion bar bolts and get you some 18's and you are set!

Section,

What computer code are you running? I have a spare PCM if you want to try it. My chip won't work with yours (I don't think it will start it) because of the Eaton, MSD, etc, programming. But since mine is sitting - you can try it if you want...

I have a '98 PCM as well if you wanted to try it.

I have the SLL4 code. I'll be heading back to the dyno next week (after the exhaust install), and if my a/f is still whacked, I'll do a couple pulls with no chip.

CobraXP - Do you think something could be wrong with my actual PCM, or just an incorrect chip tune?

Thanks for the offer Brian. I'll let you know. Are you running a 5.0L in the Ranger?

Yes I took a '93 stang block, bored it .030 over, rebuilt it with a Summit engine kit, Buddy Rawls custom cam, GT-40X Al heads with 1.6 FMS roller rockers, Ferrea valves and Crane valve components. It has the Explorer top end with Explorer accessories. A '99 returneless fuel rail with '99 wiring, MAS and a '99 computer.

Latest update was a Kool Blue air filter. I'm working on a stainless steel exhaust cutout for the strip. I have a custom hot end exhaust with two high flow cats and a custom cold end exhaust with a single 3" pipe and a whopper Magnaflow muffler.
